Portugal Passes Gay Marriage Bill!!!!

Portugal will be the 6th European country to allow same-sex marriage!
The Parliament passed a gay marriage bill with the support from their left-of-center parties! It's pretty surprising for the mostly Roman Catholic country, but we could not be more excited.
The measure will now be reviewed by conservative President Anibal Cavaco Silva, who has the power to ratify or veto, yet any decision can be overturned by Parliament.
Prime Minister Jose Socrates believes that the proposed law is part of the effort to modernize Portugal.

Love it! I'm so proud to be Portuguese. Love is love, you can not control that. Anyone who has a problem with it….keep it movin. I'm straight but i have tons of gay friends and i believe they should have the right to marry their partners if they choose to. They are human beings like anyone else.

Because I am and I am happy that a Catholic/ conservative country is giving rights to its citizens as heterosexual couples have ( (e.g. government benefits and employment benefits such as insurances, adoptions, etc.). The only embarrassement to the country is that it has one of the highest divorce rates.

I'm portuguese and I'm happy for gay marriage in Portugal. BUT, the party of Jose Socrates did not mentioned gay adoption… It's like Portugal took a step forward, but still has a foot in the past.
The USA seems to be kind of backwards thinking?

While I may be straight, I find it pretty embarrassing for the US to take so long and have so many issues with this. Good for Portugal and I really wish most conservative Americas will get their heads out of their asses and realize that restricting a person's rights for the mere fact of their sexual orientation is unacceptable in this day and age. No one should have a right to tell someone who they can/cannot marry. Everyone should have the right to marry/divorce who they want. Equality for all as it states in the constitution. Sadly…it will take a lot longer for us to get on the right path as the rest of the world jumps ahead of us.

All civilized countries have gay marriage and barbaric arabic countries and primitive african countries punish gay people and kill them. If I had a homosexual relative i'd help them out, because of shame or anything like that, we are all human and its a unnatural human condition, not push them far down in their disease…I mean if someone has a disease you try and help not make laws to make it seem right!
