Glee Star Slams Obama

Glee's Jane Lynch has branded President Obama "a huge disappointment" for not legalizing gay marriage across America.

She believes that Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California, should not have taken place because the majority does not have the right to vote on the lives of the minority.

Lynch said:

"Shouldn't there be safeguards against the majority voting on the rights of a minority? If people voted on civil rights in the '60s, it would have never happened. It took somebody like (U.S. President) Lyndon Johnson going, 'F all of you! I'm going to do this.' Obama won't do it. He's a huge disappointment to me."

    Have to agree with Jane.
    Disappointed am I.

  2. 2

She's totally right. If we had put civil rights up to a vote, our now president would be some white man's property.

  3. 3

He never said he was going to…not that i'm against it but he never once said he was going to legalize gay marriege.

  4. 4

didn't she used to be in a ikea commercial?

  5. 5

And this is all Obama's fault how? I'm all for gay marriage (seriously, I've marched and sent out flyers and such) but she has no fucking clue how to get things done in government.

  6. 6

Obama is a huge joke, but McCain wouldn't of done a damn thing anyway! It's like choosing between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich. lol

  7. 7

    Hmmm. Obamarama? I dont know…..

  8. 8

I want to like Obama, but i think he's too much of a pushover to ever bring about real change. I hope i'm wrong.

It's because there are much bigger issues to worry about right now. And I'm for it BTW.
Issues like gay marriage, abortion, drugs, immigration - no one cares about these issues when we have the economic crisis and useless war going on right now.

  10. 10

    Jane Lynch is right.
But, unfortunately, America is not ready to accept gay people as EQUAL.
Americans are slow to change, and just can't step into the 21st century yet.
President Obama is in a tough situation because we're just NOT READY.
    Very sad.

  11. 11

"All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression."
    - Thomas Jefferson
The third President of the United States, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence

  12. 12

you gay people need to shut the fuck up for once, and stop acting like fighting for your right to wear pink spandex and flail your wrists about is the same as the civil rights movement.

  13. 13

This is not Obama' doing but he did NOTHING to resolve this.
Despite what he promised he would do, ultimately, he lacked the backbone and balls to do the right thing.
Truly disappointed and disgusted with him.
Gays and lesbians are not second class citizens.
They should be allowed to get married and enjoy all the same benefits awarded to straight spouses.

Pretty sure Johnson didn't pass the civil rights movement because he knew it was right, he did it for the votes and pretty sure he was a racist man beyond that…..

  15. 15

So–when is it right that the minority can rule the majority? Marriage is for a man and a woman.

  16. 16

    Best argument I've heard yet!!!

  17. 17

Why do no comments show up more than half the time? I'm about done with this site. It's annoying (as is Perez). I think he cares more about the hits than anybody getting a good internet experience.

  18. 18

Barry is a huge disappointment to everyone. Barry just can't get away from voting "Present". Why should he, look how far it's taken him. But his total embrace of the Bush years is really unnecessary. At least try to end one of your wars Barry.

  19. 19

there are terrorist trying to blow our asses up and jobless rates are more down than ever yeah gay marriage is what the president should be worried about

  20. 20

She must be very uniformaed about how things work. Obama has exactly NO power to legalize gay marriage in any way.

  21. 21

    totally right!

  22. 22

He has been a disappointment but not only for gay rights issues. He does not seem to have any direction what so ever. Ok following Bush and cleaning up that mess is a huge task, so I can give him a bit of a break.

  23. 23

Jane Lynch is not the star of Glee. She is a supporting cast member that the show could do with out if need be. Her character is a bit annoying.

  24. 24

    Loves her! I agree 100%!

  25. 25

Amen! I love Obama, but he is trying way too hard to please the right wing.

    @carrie143

nice quote but I believe Thomas Jefferson had slaves and even impregnated one. to bad he didnt follow his own advice.

  28. 28

I agree with her. The majority of the majority don't give a shit about anything that doesn't directly affect them, such as the rights of the minorities

  29. 29

    Love Jane, she's the best!!

  30. 30

Joe Biden even stated in his debate with Sarah Palin that Obama did not believe in gay marriage….This isn't a new position for the Obama admin. Just because he's a democrat doesn't mean he's for gay marriage.

  31. 31

I'M DONE WITH THIS SITE. AND IM TELLING EVERYONE I KNOW TO STOP TOO. YOU SCREEN YOUR COMMENTS, MARIO. AND FRANKLY, IT'S PATHETIC. YOU ONLY ALLOW COMMENTS TO BE VIEWED THAT YOU DEEM APPROPRIATE.

IF IT'S NOT ABOUT GAY RIGHTS OR GAGA YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT.

    PEACE.

  32. 32

I just lost respect for her.

  33. 33

Oh and Perez, if somebody doesn't support gay marriage.. that does not mean they "H8"

Use your brain, you hypoctical liar.

  34. 34

i totally agree with her…i don't even think that president has even have done anything for this country in this year…i'm glad i had voted for McCain!

  35. 35

I've commented 3 or 4 times on this blog but I can't see any of the comments. WTF is with that? I just keep commenting in hopes of being granted the privilege of seeing what I said. Is it a conspiracy?

  36. 36

come on people. did anyone really believe the obama campaign promises……hype?
if you did then you were duped!

  37. 37

unfortunatly its not a federal issue

  38. 38

I agree with her, it takes cajones to do something like that…but only if you believe in it. Obama never wanted to give gays the right to vote: he's been pretty outspoken about being pro-traditional family. Just because he's *a* minority, it doesn't mean he's for all minorities.

  39. 39

"I'll have those n*g gers voting Democratic for the next 200 years."
Lyndon B. Johnson to two governors on Air Force One according Ronald Kessler's Book, "Inside The White House"

    Isn't it funny? Hahaha

  40. 40

I don't believe he promised to do anything about this issue. He did promise to eliminate don't ask don't tell and that is still in action. Untouched.
    .
I agree with it being a state by state choice, for then all the haters can group together and inbreed to their hearts content.
    .
I still think Obama will end up being the most progressive President to date. That said doesn't mean everyone will be happy.
    .
So, keep the issue on the table for all to see and hear.

  41. 41

Im not from the U.S. but i thought every state had their own laws? Why is she blaming Obama?
Even though i don't like the guy but well.. Not of my business what you do over there!!

  42. 42

she makes a VERY vaild point.

  43. 43

GUESS WHAT ALL YOU FUCKING RETARDED DEMOCRAT SHIT EATING NAZI FUCKS!!! A new celebrity gossip website is in the making that will not only slam the entire dumb liberal media, but also completely tear this site to pieces. It will be run by a group of Ivy league educated students who are Republicans…watch out Perez you ugly fuck. Your about to go out of business, let's see if you even have the balls to post this.

  44. 44

Re: Yellow Peeps – What the hell is wrong with you "Americans change slow'. All you democrats are jsut white trash dumb as shit idiots. China still have slavery, Korea sellls women in a sex trade, many countries in the middle east are allowed to beat their wives and also in China many couples drown their baby daughter because they wanted a boy. Democrats and liberals are probably the most retarted group of people to exist. look at California for example.

  45. 45

    she is right

  46. 46

Have to agree as well. Major Disappointment, if they don't want to legal gay marriage they should ban marriage all together.

  47. 47

I'm for gay rights - I'm not for redefining what marriage is in the traditional sense. Marriage is and always will be between a man and a woman. If gays want to have all the same rights that go along with that, then cool - they just can't call it marriage. And as much as I hate Obama, I must defend him when he never ran on this issue, nor supported it. So, for all of the complainers - you knew what you were getting into and should not look to your false idol president for help!

  50. 50

HELLOOOOO! Obama voted PRESENT while his spent his few months as a senator. Why are you surprised he can't/won't make a decision on gay marriage!!?? Get what you vote for! Now..not only can gay people not get married…our economy is in worse shape then ever and he has not f'n clue how to fight terrorist!!!

  51. 51

"majority does not have the right to vote on the lives of the minority.

HELLO!!!! It's called DEMOCRACY. The "Democratic" platform is based on "group" rights NOT "individual" rights like the Republican platform. But these days, there is not difference between the "so-called" 2 parties. Libertarian Party is the way to go. Fiscal Conservative, Social Liberal. A REAL "Classical Liberal" Government should have not business in "marriage" Why would anyone gay/straight feel the need to ask the gov't/BIG BROTHER for permission to have a union with another human being. They should have the freedom to do just that. As for MARRIAGE. It's a religious act/ritual. Let the church keep it. Let other's gays/straight create their own union and call it what they like.

  52. 52

  54. 54

WOW, another star shows that she has absolutely NO brains. Marriage is a STATE issue, not a FEDERAL one. Duh! OBAMA has NO control over it.

  55. 55

yeah another lie used in the Obama campaign to win the election! And the list goes on!

  56. 56

Re: EliseLucas – Its not about wether he said he was going to, but that he allowed that majority to decide for he minority. This is simply wrong and is a disappointment but I take issue with Perez misrepresenting Jane, she said she was disappointed not that she thought he has been a disappointment.

  57. 57

Re: SnowBoarder4LIFE – Oh that sound soooo exiting! NOT

  58. 58

Re: me0101 – Ummm Obama never promised one thing about gay marriage. He actually gave signals that indicated he wouldn't vote for gay marriage. I voted for him because he made (and still to me makes) more sense than the religious right. (they still scare me)

  59. 59

Re: waterstar – It sounds good but it wont be legal and if its not legal it can not be upheld. Gays NEVER needed permission or approval from anyone to love someone and share their life, that is NOT the point.

  60. 60

    Obama? whose obama?

  61. 61

    That is exactly right

  62. 62

Re: Not my gumdrop buttons! – Why should straight people be so threatened by gay people wanting to marry? It is just another way in which the majority deny the minority and in essence separate themselves as more worthy and the rest of us are seen as less than. You suck! THIS WILL TO CHANGE MARK MY WORDS BECAUSE JUSTICE IS ON OUR SIDE

  63. 63

I am still pro-Obama, but I agree with Jane. NO H8.

  64. 64

Jane Lynch is right. We mucked up. We should have elected Hillary, who actually has a set of balls. Obama has none. Wimp. Here's what I have learned from Obama's first year: There is ZERO reason to vote ever again, because Wall Street and special interests run this country, if not the world. "Disappointment" doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about Obama and the political system.

  65. 65

Hey dumb asses, the President of the United States can't make laws. Obama doesn't have a magic wand that he can wave and create whatever laws he wants. Maybe you guys need to learn the basics about how our government works before you open your mouths.

  66. 66

She makes a good point - you look at it that way is does look like a losing proposition…Legalize gay marriage (and pot)

  67. 67

I agree. Legalizing gay marriage is not as difficult as Obama is making it out to be.
Canada has had gay marriage since 2005. No one thinks about it. because it's NOT A BIG DEAL.
Obama has the majority and he's not using it. letting small religious groups with money determine a persons rights is disgusting and shameful.

true. and don't even get me started on how long it took my icon picture to show up. It was like.. months?

  71. 71

Why should we a have to vote regarding same sex marriages? Who is it hurting and why all the drama? Marriage is a personal choice and everyone should marry whomever they want (Adults). I've never been married, but I would like to marry whomever I like. When did this become the governments choice to choose for us. I'm tired of this bullshit. There are more atrocious things going on this country that need attention.

  72. 72

I don't remember Obama promising he'd legalize gay marriage. In fact, I believe he's said that marriage was a state issue, not a federal issue. That being said, I am a married Christian woman and I wish that gay marriage were legalized. The separation of Church and State should be enforced. There is no non-religious reason to limit marriage to heterosexual couples. I don't think God cares so much about our legal marriage (it really is just a paper); but God is 100% concerned with our spiritual marriages and the vows that we take before him. To restrict other people from legal rights afforded by a civil marriage is wrong. To bar people from seeing their loved ones in the hospital b/c they're union isn't "legal" is wrong. How is that showing Christian love and compassion?

  73. 73

Re: waterstar – You said it perfectly, I was also EXTREMELY right wing until I learned about the Libertarian party. That's the way to go. Unfortunately it does not have a big enough following to win a major government position.

    Re: Not my gumdrop buttons!

so basically you're saying the word "marriage" belongs to you?

I'm sorry but no. I didn't choose to be gay, just like I didn't choose to be Hispanic or to have to a mole on the uppers side of my back. And I'll be damned if America will deny me the equality I deserve for something I had no control over. One day ALL Americans will be able to marry, it's just about waiting for all the old-fashioned bigoted homophobes to die.

    Re: luvstotango

And im assuming you didnt include Bush just because he's Republican?

    Oh yeah, no bias there…

  79. 79

Let me give a little lesson to Jane, The President can not legalize marriage all over the country, that is a state issue, second Prop 8 was a California issue which was put on the ballot by democracy, and its the gay communities fault because they didn't come out as they should have, third The President never promised to legalize Gay Marriage, what he promised was repealing DADT and DOMA, I personally believe he will do these things, remember he has at least till Jan 2013 to do these. Finally about Janes comment about Prop 8, she needs to take it up with the Gov. not Obama. Now I am all about Gay Rights and I believe Gays should have the right to marry, but I believe The Economy, The Wars, Financial Reform, Cap and Trade are a little more important right now.

  80. 80

Well, she certainly has a point.

  81. Lyns says – reply to this

    81

I agree! Obama's stance on gay rights during his campaign was one of the biggest reasons why I voted for him.

  82. 82

First off, Obama said he DOES NOT support gay marriage. And even if he did he cannot make gay marriage legal. It is a state issue not federal. I am all for gay marriage but this issue is out of the President's hands.

  83. 83

    Amen, sister.

  84. 84

obama said he was against gay marriage from the get go, yet all these gay people voted for him. talk about latching on to a bandwagon.

  85. 85

she didnt say ELISELUCAS That he STATED he would legalize it ! SHE IS CLAIMING WHAT OCCURRED IN CALIFORNIA WAS NOT ONLY ILLEGAL BUT AGAINST OUR HUMAN RIGHTS AND BEING PRESIDENT HE SHOULD HAVE AND STILL SHOULD CORRECT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In response to EliseLucas: He never said he was going to…not that i'm against it but he never once said he was going to legalize gay marriege.

    and it's Marriage btw! :)

  86. 86

Re: Zephyrinthesky – It's not a matter of justice or denying someone a right. I said I am for gay rights (did you see?). But what marriage is, as defined by every country, every religion, every society, is between a man and a woman. If you would like to come up with a new word to define that for gay people, then cool, and yes, it should have all the legal standings of traditional marriage - but just as you should not be denied something, neither should the people for which the original meaning of the word and connation exist (i.e. they should not be forced to change it).

  87. 87

Re: gloom – So you must agree that, the above mentioned names are truly epic, dangrous failures and I need to just add Bush to my list?

No, Bush is a hero and so is Dick Cheney. I miss them every single day because this destroyer of jobs, Obama, Pelosi and Reed are dismantling and killing America, as fast as they can. In the end, your people can't protect Americans while terrorists get lawyers. People are sick of this nonsense. Remember John Corzine…you thiefs are done, finished, game is almost over. Ted Kennedy's senatorial seat is up for grabs by a Republican. America does not want your ideas. You are being rejected by the citizens of America.

  88. 88

She is great and I have to agree he has not stuck his neck out for the gays who overwhelmingly supported him. As for the military ban -he certainly can sign an Executive order and it would be done with the flick of a pen. Time is on our side-eventually its gonna happen H8ers!

    90

Obama made great pains to say he did not/does not support gay marriage during the primary.
Like the Republicans were over-stepping the bounds of what the great document called The Constitution should do, by trying for an amendment banning gay marriage. So would an attempt at legalizing gay marriage on a national level be wrong.
Marriage laws have always been settled by individual states. In my opinion this is best done in the courts of the states, rather than by having the majority of the people vote on the rights of the minority.

  91. 91

  92. 92

    She's right.

  95. 95

Re: luvstotango – You skipped Bush, you ignorant sack of crap.

  96. 96

Jane, I love you so much. I want to make you pumpkin pancakes with ginger syrup and a side of double-thick applewood bacon. I like to poach my eggs in little floaty cups with a splash of white vinegar. I top them with paprika and very fine ground pepper. Everything gets a sprinkle of coarse sea salt.

That's what I do for people I love. And I love you.

Thanks for saying what I don't have the courage to say.

  97. 97

Hate to break it to you and Jane but President Obama can't exacly declare gay mariage legal…he has power but not that type of power so stop bitching…I don't like Prop 8 but eventually gays and leabians will have this right so quit the bitching

  98. 98

I think she's wrong! Congress has to pass bills and Presidents sign them into law! that is why we have 3 branches of government. They all have separate but important functions. Obama CANNOT make gay marriage legal for all without congress first writing and passing a bill! CIVICS PEOPLE!!!

  99. 99

This is pretty stupid. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act that was passed by Congress. Congress has passed no bill giving gays the right to marry for the president to sign. WTF is she talking about? He's actually done quite a bit with executive orders giving federal workers partership rights. Just goes to show that gay people can be stupid too.

  100. 100

I'm 100% for gay marriage, but I've gotta say, Obama never EVER said he would legalize gay marriage so why is she disappointed. He always said it's a matter that should be left to the state and not the Federal government. Moreover, he's always said that he PERSONALY doesn't agree with it, but believes in equal rights in "civil unions". He's been really upfront about it from the start, so i'm not sure what she was expecting.

That said, of his political platform, it was the only place that my opinions differed. Seriously though, I think he's doing a pretty good job. The US economy seems to be rebounding, he's continuing to push national health care through. (I wish he was already out of Iraq, but he's not yet). Other than that he just needs to legalize pot… Then I'd consider leaving Canada lol… till then, I'm happy where I am. The real land of the Free.
