It's official!
This will be Simon Cowell's last season of American Idol!
Now that he's launching the X-Factor in America, which plans to debut on 2011, Simon will be busy serving as executive producer and judge.
And Idol may be doomed considering Fox has picked up the X Factor for broadcast, yet the network is planning three more season of AI. Although it seems like the same show, the difference is that X Factor splits the talent into four groups and each one is mentored by one of the judges.
Simon is walking away from $36 million per season!

…it's definitely not going to be the same.
I really don't see a huge difference in the show type and will personally be following Simon. He is the only reason I follow these types of shows. I don't enjoy Randy, Paula or Kara. Dunno if I like Ellen yet (obviously) but even if I do she wouldn't be enough for me to stick with Idol without Simon.
Simon is richer than god, so money can't be the reason to make a choice like this. He's got to keep things fresh and do what he wants. I think X-Factor will edge out Idol within a few years. Way to go Simon!

To be honest, I don't think AI will be anymore popular anyway. X-Factor coming to US is doomed to fail too. Talent show format of this kind is starting to run its course. Been going on for too long. There seems to be a shift in TV audience taste now, look at BB which is winding up in UK. X Factor and AI will follow suit soon. I have no idea what is the next big format for TV. But something new and refreshing will arrive which is what AI and Survivor did to TV 10 years ago.

They tried to do The X Factor in Australia. It bombed.
An Australian network (SBS) that is the equivalent to the US network PBS was getting higher ratings in that timeslot.
Yeah its worth it. He knows without Paula the show will sink fast. Im going to try it out this season…and when hes gone, there will be no point in watching. Him and Paula were the only 2 judges worth anything. I hate Randy and fucking cant stand Kara.

We all knew this was coming and I see the downfall of Idol without Simon. But for him to bring that barfbag Paula over and she will "help mentor the contestants"??? Are you f'n kidding me? The only thing she is able to mentor is a box of kleenex! I was interested in watching it until that hag was announced as being part of it. It's all good. I'll be skipping this one.
Re: Stepy – Oh please. She wasn't the main interest in the show and if you were watching only for her…that just shows how much of an idiot you are. She never provided anything but unintelligent and inarticulate comments. Nothing else. She's a hosebag who was overrated when she was supposedly famous (for a second or 2) and she has nothing to offer. AI will do fine this year without her and will fail next year without Simon.
IDOL IS NO GOOD WITHOUT PAULA, AND ALL THESE OTHER JUDGES JUST MADE IT CLEAR TO ME THAT IDOLS RUN IS COMING TO AN END. SIMON IS A SMART MAN.

I think he saw that the ship will be going down and what an ego lift to know he will put the final nail in the coffin by leaving. Chris Allen's winning and subsequent total failure compared with past winners has hurt the brand as well.
I won't watch AI without him on it…I like the xfactor concept better. wonder why it took so long to get an American version.
I love AI and will miss Simon on it and the show itself as I don't see it going on much longer BUT The X Factor is a great show!
Similar in its ways to AI but it does have its differances. Can't wait to see The X Factor US
I think Simon knows that nobody can out-do Adam Lambert entertainment wise and the show will just be boring now. I think Idol reached its top last season and they should leave on a high note.
not to mention it lets bands on (usally mentor by louis walsh who is manger to the two biggest band in uk history) and lets any age above 16 on it.

It's about f—ing time they bring X-Factor to America!! AI is old and tired as we saw from last series! I hope they bring a lot of fantastic Brit judges!!
He might make much more with X Factor, has control and can produce it.
It eliminates some of the headaches you might take less money for to start.

I just hope Idol will finally be put to rest when he leaves. This is the most overhyped show ever, and the person who deserves to win never actually does. I haven't watched in years - I don't even watch the auditions anymore. It's all the same every year, just different faces. I'm bored of it. I don't want X-Factor either - same thing just a different name. Why not do something new and fresh???
I love IDOL and will watch both.. both Simon knows all good things must come to an end. He's leaving on top and starting a whole new show that will be a BIG hit (especially taking Paula with him!). I do see AI continuing for a couple more seasons, and then wrap it up. AI didn't take off until Season 3, and I think it will take X Factor to do the same thing..

Gurd American Idols Shit Anyway. What Winner Has Actually Done Well And Is Still Realeasing Music, Which Does Well. NONE
I think Idol already peaked with Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson, in terms of discovering really amazing, iconic talent. So the next couple of seasons are going to be iffy anyway. But there is NO point in the show without Simon. He is the one who tells the truth, he is the center of that show.
Re: Hmm… – Not true. Carrie Underwood is a huge country star. But it's true that most of the people who are signficant, and will continue to be significant, are ones who didn't win, like Daughtry, and the aforementioned Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson. I thought Fantasia would be huge but her career has kind of been a disappointment.

Re: Megan Fox Before Nose and Lip Surgery – It's obviously like AI but the judges also stands as mentors to the contestants.. i think in the uk they have 4 categories; "over 25", "girls", "boys" and "groups" and for the top 12 each judge will have their category to work with.. so 3 for each judge cause there's 4 judges. The judges will be giving them the songs they have to perform and such.. so they're doing more than judging.. and they also have some sort of say on who should go.. like the bottom 2 they ask each judge who they want to leave but if its a tie then they go to the public vote.. and soo on.
