Spider Man 4 Killed! Film Franchise To Get Reboot!
First production got pushed back. Now, it's been scrapped altogether!
Seems like there was way more drama going on behind-the-scenes of Spider Man 4 than we previously knew!
Instead of going ahead with the latest installment, Columbia has decided to reboot the franchise. That means no Tobey Maguire or Kiki Drunkst. Plus, a new director!
Columbia and Raimi put on a unified front Monday when making the announcement they were parting.
"A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire, and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the boxoffice, and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise.
"Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We're very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning," Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal said in a statement.
Said Raimi: "Working on the Spider-Man movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job."

The new film, which will still be produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios, is expected to be released in summer 2012.

LAME its way too soon to do a reboot. Not that I care if the actors change sucks for Dunst since she hasn't been up to much lately, but still waaaaaay to soon. Stupid Hollywood get original already.

No surprise. Spiderman 2 made less than Spiderman 1 and Spiderman 3 made less than Spiderman 2. It was going downhill. Maguire was good though because he underacted beautifully. Almost no expression, little talk. Did well. Let the special effects and the costume do the work.
Do we really need another Spiderman film? It is not like special effects have progressed that much since the first one and all the good villains have been used. Better to let the property be for a decade or so before revisiting it because if they keep making unnecessary sequels we will all burn out on Spiderman.

They should just continue the story with more adult characters, just as they did in the cartoon. Peter Parker hasn't been a nerdy kid for a looong time and MJ is a babe in her early 30's. They should get James Cameron to direct, Kate Beckinsale to play MJ and, I don't know, a hunky dude to play Peter Parker.
Doing exactly what The Dark Knight did for Batman.. smart??, perhaps, but I really wanted to see one last SpiderMan with the current cast.

Ok…… they dont need to necessarily REBOOT the Spider-man franchise (if that means doing another origin story). They do, however, need to cast some new people in the lead roles, and have a new director like Michael bay take the reigns. We all know Michael Bay would make Spider-Man an AMAZING action move - like it's supposed to be.
If they want to reboot, just call the 4th movie "The AMAZING Spider-man" , use this as the 4th and last installment, carry on where the movie left off - maybe fast-forward 5 years in the future, cast a SEXY actress as MJ, cast a more mature, built dude as Peter and have CARNAGE make his grand entrance. THEN you end the franchise there and it would be an EPIC final curtain call.
Snooki would be an excellent choice for the Black Cat…..or maybe Kate Gosselin.

not surprising…Spider-Man 3 killed the franchise the way George Clooney's Batman killed the caped crusader for over a decade. Spidey 3 was dreadful, and i'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to comics movies. they need to let Spider-Man sit on the back burner for about 10 years then reboot it. too soon to do it now, it smacks of desperation.
This is both lame and good at the same time. While i'm glad they finally got rid of dunst who sucked the life out of the films, why in gods name did they have to do a stupid reboot and start all freaking over again? We all know how spiderman was created we don't need to see that AGAIN. No more freaking origins.

Spider Man 4 was cancelled cuz Raimi is working on the new World of Warcraft trilogy that is a way bigger franchise than Spider Man is right now. I am glad to see SM tanked. Three films was enough, & they weren't even that good. Hopefully he won't fuck up the Warcraft movies because the Warcraft tale is way more original & complicated & beautiful.
