Diablo Defends Her Body
Diablo Cody, the brilliant mind behind the Oscar winning Juno, is speaking out against the marketers for her latest film, Jennifer's Body. She's insisting that the film did not reach its full potential at the box office because female audiences were ignored during promotion.
Yeah, we can see where the trailers featuring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried sucking face would only appeal to a certain portion of ladies.
Diablo was recently interviewed and voiced her concern, saying:
"The marketing was a little messed up. It was marketed mostly to boys and I think we could have had a large female audience that was ignored. I want to believe deep down inside that movie will find its audience. At the same time, many of us knew that it wasn't going to connect which is a terrible thing to say. As much as I love that movie, and I'm incredibly proud of that movie and I will love it forever, I feel it's very unusual and I don't think it's super accessible in a lot of ways. I don't think it was a typical, mass appeal popcorn horror movie. I think it was more like an art film. I know some people would laugh at that."
Maybe it'll find its niche on DVD?! We can see a cult following developing for this thing for sure.

I saw Juno and wasn't that impressed.
It introduced us to a new, young, Canadian actress, but it was facile and trite.
Maybe this new flick was ignored for good reason. Megan Fox is highly overrated as a beauty, let alone as an actress.
I liked it, which I was sure I wouldn't. The banter between the two main characters Needy and Jennifer was hysterical.

I did see it, and I actually thought it wasn't such a bad film. Megan Fox is not a terrible actress, and Amanda Seyfried does a great job. I actually thought this film would have done OK.
I really enjoyed JB. I thought the movie was really funny and witty. It is cult classic worthy for sure. Adam Brody was classic.
Diablo Cody is awesome but I didn't watch the movie because of Megan Fox. She sucks.

Love me some cody, but Body fell flat for me. Was really excited about it cause I loved Juno, and I don't hate Megan Fox like a lot of people do. But it just wasn't as sharp as I wanted it to be, and I think megan was miscast. She's good for something like Transformers, but she just wasn't wry enough(ie, like Ellen Page) to pull off a lot of the lines that needed better delivery to make a full comedic, sly impact. Even Amanda was a bit a of a disappointment too. The concept was a great one, but the execution fell short significantly.
I completely understand where she is coming from. Unfortunately, any trailer featuring Megan Fox will gear towards male audience all the time, especially if the main character in the film is Megan Fox. I think She did a perfect job in this movie and to my surprise, it showcased her true acting skills. I actually have so much appreciation for her after this film. I think maybe if they wanted to gear towards more female audience, they could have made the trailer look more suspenseful, like the part where Megan (Jennifer) was getting dragged through the woods and where Amanda was distraught through the whole movie because of her best friend.
I saw this movie the day it came out and then bought it the day it came out and watched it again. This movie has to be one of my favorite movies ever. It has horror/suspense/ and comedy all in one. It reminds me of "mean Girls," "Death Becomes her." I completely recommend this movie to anyone and it's unfortunate it did so bad in box office. I think many refuse to watch it or decided to hate it, solely based on their dislike for Megan Fox. Truly Unfortunate.
I said when it came out that there was no possible way that the film would've been a box office hit. It was a murky horror-comedy (a genre that has a ton of bombs) with a polarizing "star" and absolutely no accessibility to the female audience, the audience that make horror movies (even terrible ones) into big hits.
With that said,I enjoyed it in a campy, silly way. Watch it if you're interested, it's a hell of a lot more entertaining then your average horror/slasher movie.

I know it's supposed to be a Horror flick but this movie was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time! You can tell immediately that it was written by Diablo Cody because it has most of the same comedic kickers like Juno. It did have it's scary moments at times and they did a good job at making Megan Fox look like one scary bitch. It definitely wasn't marketed well enough!
It was casting Megan Fox that made the movie bomb at the box office!! That is why I will not ever be watching it if I have to spend a dime.

it didn't really work as either a good snarky commentary on female adolescence OR horror/comedy, and that was the biggest problem. In a close second was Megan Fox. She's a beautiful girl, pretty funny in interviews, but she was in over her head here with the material. You needed someone with more moxy to pull off her lines, the way Ellen Page pulled off the lines beautifully in Juno. Fox is just too wooden still, she needs more experience and acting lessons.
I think a lot more women would have gone to see it if megan fox was not the lead. She is not the type of actress who appeals to both men and women. I myself thought the movie looked interesting but I cant stand megan fox so I stayed away. That, and the marketing made it look like a softcore porn for pre pubescent boys.
I totally agree with Diablo, I'm a chick and I loved this movie, dispite my intense dislike for Megan Fox. I think it's funny, witty, and kickass, and if other girls knew that it was more than just a chick that likes to skinny dip and makeout with other chicks they might love it too.

I feel the same way about the marketing - everyone wanted to show off Megan's hot body and not go into the fact that this was actually a story about being a teenage girl. Having been one before, I could fully relate and was pleasantly surprised when we actually saw the movie on DVD. I didn't expect much from it, but it has quickly become one of our favorite movies at home. It's clever, funny, and entertaining.

I actually loved it. She's dead on you have to get past the fact that they marketed it on Meghan's sex appeal. She actually did a great job & the whole movie is pretty funny in a dark way.

People need to check it out. It really is a good, interesting film.
Uh…yeah…it could have been marketed a little bit differently. If you don't want it to have a certain reputation, don't put Megan Fox on the cover in a highly suggestive outfit promoting the lesbian kiss scheme. plus, look at what audience this kind of movie is going to attract anyway…any movie featuring Megan Fox is going to pull in an audience with the combined brain capacity of a vacuum.
I loved it, and wanted to see it from the moment I saw the trailer. It's one of my favourites.
i actually enjoyed the movie a lot. Mainly because it gave me that classic horror film vibe. I dont think it was original, seeing as how im sure many horror films have played off of that story, so i don't think of it as 'art' but Diablo Cody definitely did a good job as usual. I like her stuff.

I am a straight girl and I loved the movie. And I think Diablo is right about the marketing - I originally didn't want to see the movie, I just went because the movie theatre is across the street, and I had nothing better to do.
However, after I saw it, I LOVED the movie so much (saw it twice in theatres). There is more to it than just a girl who kills boys and kisses another girl. It is definitely deeper. I recommend people buy or rent the DVD to see what you think.
Also, I was actually pleasently surprised with Megan Fox's acting abilities in this movie. I think she is improving.
Has she actually watched her own movie?? It's an hour and a half long slow-mo of Megan Fox whenever she's on the fucking screen. So the marketing for the movie was pretty damn accurate when it showed nothing but Fox.

I seen the movie cause I seen a fine looking Megan Fox on the front of the cover, and it was horrible. One of the worst, messed up movies I have seen in a long time. And there were many good known actors in it but man so not worth the five dollar rental. Just a waste of peoples time.

It was one of my favortire movies of '09. Love Campy horror films…. but with that said… Camoy horror films have a very specific audience, which isn't that big. Most people don't get that it's supposed to be rediculous, and almost making fun of it's self. You have to be the type of movie goer that truelly thrives on this stuff to even begin to appreciate it. Diablo knows what she is doing. i appreciate that she made this movie. To take a risk like that is something special.

I'm a female who I saw JUNO and I wasn't impressed by it. Jennifer's body however, was wicked fun. My favorite parts were the quick one liners like: When Megan Fox grabs Amanda's boobs and says: "These are like smart bombs, you point them in the right direction and shit gets real." I mean that's funny right! LOL.

I saw this movie in the theater and absolutely loved it! I do however see where she is coming from on the whole marketing thing. I work at a Blockbuster and I have had some very disappointed customers who felt as if they were mislead into thinking that this was some kinda soft core lesbeporn saturated spaltter fest instead of a cautionary comic noir film heavily directed towards indie chicksters. Which is sad considering it is a damn good movie. They just needed to make that extra 5mil you know… It'll find its following eventually just like Donnie Darko and Boondock.

I just saw Jennifer's Body, and I have to say, though it wasn't as clever or heartwarming as Juno, it was definately a great, CAMPY, teen-girl dark comedy flick. I was suprised after watching it that it didn't hit home with the high school aged audience. The funniest part (aside from good dialoge here and there) was the hipster band and that pathetically hipster-y song they kept playing, soooo high school. Amanda has a long career ahead of her Megan Fox is inhumanly sexy in the movie, but I'll have to see her in some different roles before I determine she's a bad actress. This movie was the PERFECT part for her, when she is squatting on a chair with this demon smile she gave me the biggest creeps. She plays the part of a vacant slut pretty well too. I have a theory that this movie didn't do well at all because of Michael Bay blacklisting her around that time after she made all those "hitler" comments about him and such…. Just a theory though.

Why can't Diablo Cody wake up and realize that she is a fluke?!? She is a one-hit wonder and can't acknowledge that she is overrated. "Juno" was okay but it wasn't brilliant. What made it good is the director, as evidenced by his most recent hit, "Up In the Air".
