The Leno Ratings Effect
This hardly comes as a surprise!
A study's findings were released yesterday that showed just how much The Jay Leno Show sucked in the ratings and consequently causing crappy ratings for the local news affiliates.
The late news audiences dropped by an average of 25 percent compared to last year, but looking at just New York and Los Angeles, those audiences dropped by 48 and 43 percent respectively.
WOW!
While a lot can contribute to a ratings decline, the study concluded that the dip began around the time Leno's show began and has continued ever since.
That whole idea was effed up and now look where it's taken NBC!
People are PISSED now with the whole Conan O'Brien debacle and we're not sure moving Jay Leno to a different time will change anything when it comes to the guy's ratings.
But we do think the local news stations will fare better with different programming, depending on the quality.

I'm cool with Leno, but I think this all could have been avoided.
Well if anyone ever wanted to know what it looks like when execs f theselves this is what it looks like at the end. Looks like chins win over red heads.
They should leave Conan and Jimmy where they are & give them a chance. Maybe give Jay some other special projects or something. Jay has had his chance in late night - the other guys deserve to have theirs.

NBC messed up. LENO did very well at 11:35. Conan did OK (could have been better) at 12:35.
I like Leno so I will probably watch his show again once it comes back. But am tired of the drama am on Team Stewart/Colbert screw everyone else at this point.
Why does the lead-in show have such an impact on local news? Don't people know how to use their remote controls to change the channel?
does it matter what we think? nbc is going to cater to the Chin and they know they handled the whole thing bad. maybe they did it on purpose to rid themselves of conan
I don't have a dog in this fight other than I miss dramas in the 10:00 pm slot on NBC. I used to watch the opening monologue occasionally on Jay on Tonight Show (don't get Dave L. at all), and watched Conan once (enough for me). Yes, I'm part of the over 60 crowd, don't like talk shows (including The View), but do like something other than another talk show at 10:00 (I'm a Law & Order, Good Wife, Homocide Life on the Street, etc. fan), and have always been a fan of NBC programming. Thank you so much NBC for seeing the folly of your ways…bring on Law & Order L.A.

I think NBC's ratings will continue to plummet, while Dave's, Craig's etc.. will go up. Watching Jay is like watching paint dry, but worse. Hopefully Conan will figure out something to get back on the air.

….however, the ratings for the tonight show, after jay left and conan took over, took a dive placing letterman far ahead in the late-night contest. the 10 o'clock slot was a bad idea for jay, but he'll be back on top at 11:30.
Ha. Conan and Jay need to get together alone and decide what they want to do and then dictate to NBC. They're the star power, and NBC would ultimately have to yield to whatever they decided. I'm all about Conan, though. Jay lost his appeal forever ago. I just hope no one goes to FOX, that network is 80% garbage.

It's NBC's own fault for forcing Leno out of the Tonight Show in the first place.

Well, first off, Jay Leno moved his show about the time the "holiday effect" kicked in where most people want to enjoy the time they are having with their family and not get depressed by the manufactored news that is on local news stations. And I agree with the rest of these people that their shows have decreased in value every since the internet gossip blogs have become so popular. All they really do now is promote movies over and over again.
Jay can go to hell. He is 2 faced and pretends that NBC is doing the evil deeds, when it is HIM. He can't let go.
Just maybe Leno's time is up and he should retire instead of bumping someone else who still seems to be able to bring the audience. Move him to any other spot might not help might make it worst he should just quit with some dignity…
