Dennis' Divorce From His Death Bed???
Not the happiest way to spend your final days, we suppose.
The National Enquirer is reporting that Dennis Hopper presented his wife of 14 years with divorce papers this week, while he is still losing his battle with prostate cancer.
Sources provide two plausible reasons as to why Dennis would so abruptly do such a thing. On the one hand, an insider says that Dennis has become "mentally incapacitated" due to the various medications he is taking to ease the pain. On the other hand, money makes people do ridiculous things. A source says:
"It's truly a tragedy, and sadly it's all about the money and who inherits what. This is about getting Victoria out of the will, nothing more, nothing less."
Couldn't he just take her out of the will? Is the divorce really necessary?
We'd hate to think of him spending his final days alone.

Actually, he would have to divorce her to make sure she gets nothing. Most states (our lovely florida included — I live in hollywood, fl) allows for the wife/widow to get some portion of the estate. In Fla. it's 1/3, even if she's not in the will.
If he's living in a community property state then he can't just take her out of the will. She is still entitled to her share of the comm prop. By divorcing her, she still gets her share unless there was a prenup. The divorce will also allow him to control what he gets as a result of the divorce.

Like stated, she can enforce her legal share of the estate as his wife. But divorced, she gets nada extra.
It is necessary because otherwise she would tie that money up in litigation for years and nobody would get shit while it gets hammered out in court so leave him alone

He reveled in the Hollywood lifestyle and soul-less Democrat party for 20 years - he made one sick film after the other- he made garbage and he got paid a lot of money to produce GARAGE - no surprise he's cutting his wife of 14 years out of his will over money and he's cracked up in his last days.

Perez, a spouse cannot be excluded from a will. He would have to divorce her to do so. Otherwise, if she is the first spouse, she is entitled to 50% of the estate.
Maybe she's a gold digger and he's sick of it.
You cannot leave your spouse with nothing after you die. If you cut your spouse out of the will, the government will step in and give her half of the estate (the percentage depends on local law). He has to divorce her if he doesn't want her to inherit anything.

I heard he was a nasty mean-spirited guy. His wife Victoria is 6 years younger than his DAUGHTER and 32 years younger than him. Maybe he is so bitter about dying that he wants to make sure his gold digger wife suffers financially without him. No pity whatsoever for these people. My sympathies are with the Haitians.

Actually he could be doing this so when it is time to pay the medical bills they can not go after her for re-imbursement since she would have no re;ation to him.
If your spending time on your "deathbed" worryin about money and how to screw someone out of it then I say there may be a reason why you are sick. That sounds pretty harsh and cold, but hey..if he wants to die alone but happy cuz he gets to screw the wife out of $…then I say go ahead and die and I'll try not to shed a tear for you. What an asshole.

I've heard people with cancer can get really nasty near the end, but this takes the cake!
Any good lawyer knows that a person that is or has become non compos mentis (not of sound mind and hence not legally responsible; mentally incompetent) can not legally change their will, and definitely not without challenge. It belies the true wishes of that sam person when he was well; that he might have been mortified to know that when his mind went down hill that he did that to someone who he wanted to inherit when his mind was sound. The trick to this is having the person declared as such on paper so that any legal trickery post declaration is null and void. Medical and other sound witnesses can verify that the person should not have been changing their will at that point should it become a problem.
A declaration of non compos mentis might also nullify any filing for divorce initiated by Dennis or perhaps manipulated and arranged by fortune seekers.

He's dying?? I thought they said he was going to beat the cancer!! I'm not a fan of his or anything, but he's always been a Hollywood actor staple. When you hear that name, even if you can't picture who it is, it still sounds familiar.
