Golden Globe Ratings Go Up!
Something good for NBC!
Last night's Golden Globe Awards had nearly 17 million viewers pushing the ratings up 14 percent from last year. The show was number one during its time slot and it also went up 10 percent from last year in the 18-49-year-old age group.
Too bad host Ricky Gervais didn't do as well with the critics with some saying that his jokes were ill-timed and in poor taste while others just fell flat.
We thought he did all right. How do U think Ricky did as host last night?

I love Ricky. Him and Stephen Merchant are TV and comedic geniuses.
I thought he did a good job, he was very relaxed, not overly rehearsed. The GG have not have a host in so long so it was interesting. The Mel Gibson joke was a bit shocking but I'm sure he knew about it in advance. Maybe.
Ricky was NOT as funny as he usually is. Somestimes when you try to be "cutting edge" you miss the obvious.
Ricky was great. He told the truth that was why he recieved bad reviews. Hollyweird can't stand the truth about themselves and the press want to kiss all their Ass. Nuff said. Perez still love ya no matter what the press says.

Rick was very funny. I never understood the need for a host at these events. They should just get on with the action.

I think he did a pretty good job,the audience was very responsive it wasnt like Christine Chenoweth at the critics choice awards now she was not funny.But i got to say the joke about Paul Mccartney losing money was not funny and the audience seemed to think so too.

I loved Ricky on the Golden Globes… I thought it was quite funny. I was hoping he'd crack more jokes about NBC in light of the Conan/Jay situation, but otherwise, quite funny. I love when he's laughing at his own jokes. =D

I thought he was so funny last night … I am on Team Ricky
It was the dumb American papers that critised him, as they don't understand his brand of humour. Anyone who has listened to his podcasts, watched Extras or the British Office (which is the only one that's good) knows he's a funny bastard.
Hollywood takes itself so seriously and woe betide anyone that dares to take the piss. Afterall, actors are so incredibly important - aren't they? everyone should kiss their ass?
I guess the humour wasn't slapstick-obvious-retarded-as-fuck to satisfy the American journos - their loss.
My dream dinner guest list have Ricky at the top, closely followed by Perez, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Paul Ruebens, Courtney Love, John Waters, David Bowie, Chelsea Handler ,, Lindsay Lohan because I love me some messed up girls, and ….Seriously, Ricky Gervais is the funniest wittiest fucker on the planet. Eh, so on a night of self-congratulations and patting each other on the back for a job well done the Hollywood scene doesn't like a serving of humble pie? No big surprise, but it doesn't mean Ricky did bad. Actually, IMO, he did really good to bring the self-absorbed narcissists back down a few notches.

The reason the ratings were up was because it finally was broadcast LIVE Coast to Coast instead of a taped (sometimes edited) version for the West Coast. The Academy Awards have been doing it for years. What is funny, is that now the Oscars and Globes are aired, ON TELEVISION, LIVE throughout the U.S., but the EMMY's (TELEVISIONS BEST) is still tape delayed on the West Coast.

When I read that he was hosting the GG, my friends and I made sure to watch. The Mel Gibson joke was off the chain! Pretty sure Mel knew about it, and the fact that he played along just makes me continue to love him. Even tho Mel has made some big human mistakes, he's a good sport. I dig that! Ricky, if you read this site, I had six friends over for late supper/drinks and we howled at your jokes. And we're from the U.S.

Ricky Gervais was the highlight of the night for me. He was absolutely hilarious. I loved his insult on Paul McCartney. Nobody would dare to insult a Beatle except for him and I love him for it.

I normally get bored and switch the channel on award shows, but this time I watched just so I wouldn't miss when he came back on stage. Ricky Gervais made the golden globes much more enjoyable to watch.
