Though The Book of Eli took a nice lead from Avatar on Friday, the flick couldn't sustain it for the whole weekend.
Now, for the fifth week in a row, Avatar has taken the top spot at the box-office, bringing in $41.3 million in the last three days. Book of Eli now sits at a comfortable 2nd place.
Something tells us that the only movies that are going to knock this flick off its throne will involve a superhero, a boy wizard, or a vampire.
Do we have anything like that coming anytime soon?

Earlier today Gossip Cop reported that James Cameron’s Avatar had won the box office for a fifth consecutive weekend, which it did.
While Avatar ceded Friday (narrowly) to The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington as a post-apocalyptic hero, actual box office results handed another big weekend at the #1 spot to the reigning sci-fi phenomenon.
Too bad Perez Hilton can’t quit his habit of copying and pasting stories before he even reads them.
Yes, the blogger once again goes light on facts and late on “news,” breathlessly posting, “Eli Kicks Avatar Off It’s (sic) High Horse,” and going on to claim, “if the numbers remain consistent throughout the weekend,” The Book of Eli would beat Avatar for the top spot.
Oops.
Just to reiterate: After everyone else named Avatar #1 based on Friday through Sunday numbers, Perez used Friday numbers to declare that Avatar’s reign had finally ended.
Again, oops.

Avatar is a movie you want to see at least twice. Especially for the 3D. I LOVE IT!!! But I want to see The Book of Eli too. Denzel rocks.
Perez, you failed to mention how you were 10 million dollars off from being correct. You never mentioned Book of Eli's weekend box office gross of $31.6 million compared to Avatar's weekend box office gross of $41.3 million. Book of Eli was not close to beating Avatar. 10 million dollars is a big difference.

Within the next few weeks Avatar's domestic box office receipts will be the higer than Titanic's whopping $6b and will be crowned the highest grossing movie of all time.

Avatar will lose all of its 3D and IMAX screens on March 5th to Alice in Wonderland, and those screens are where it's making most of its money with the inflated ticket prices.
