Aerosmith Replacing Steven Tyler

It may only be temporary, but why bother?!

Due to a series of operations, Steven Tyler will be unable to tour with his band Aerosmith for at least a year! And for some unknown reason, they're looking for a "fill in" until Tyler recovers.

Guitarist Joe Perry explains:

"We're already getting the word out there. The word's been out there for a while. We'll start having some auditions, making some phone calls. Hopefully, we'll have found a new singer by the summer, and Aerosmith will be able to go back out on the road.

From what I've heard, (Tyler) hasn't left the band. As far as I'm concerned, he hasn't left the band. He's never said he was going to leave the band. It's just that he wanted to go off and do some of his own things. He just never told anybody in the band about it. But his manager has told our manager that he wants to take some time off. And then lately he's been saying he wants to come back.

But he has to have leg surgery and foot surgery and it's basically going to take him out of the picture for about a year, year and a half. So, in the meantime, the rest of the band wants to play. We're gonna find somebody to get in there and fill that spot. Just like when (bassist) Tom (Hamilton) was sick - we got David Hull to come in and play bass. When (guitarist) Brad (Whitford) was sick, we got somebody else to come in and play for him. That's basically how I look at it; we need another singer to fill in."

Who would want to see Aerosmith without Steven Tyler?!

Luck with that, fellas!

Really? HA! Good luck with that. Hello INXS, Van Halen…..doesn't work

  2. 2

NEVER EVER would I see "Aerosmith" with a different lead singer. Thank God I got to see them twice before. Best show I've ever seen, hands down.

  3. 3

    Steven Tyler IS Aerosmith…

  4. 4

Aerosmith is the band not the singer. I've seen them 15 times and will continue to see them. One man does not make or break the band.

  5. 5

    No Way!

Worst. Idea. Ever. For once I agree with Perez: What good is Aerosmith without Steven? This is gonna be an absolute disaster.

  7. 7

Sorry, boys but there is no Aerosmith without Steven Tyler!!

I can understand wanting to find a fill in so they continue playing their music, but how do you find a fill in for Steven Tyler?? He's a legend. And the face of the band pretty much.

  9. 9

Are they gonna have one of those Reality Shows to find Steven's replacement?

  10. 10

NO WAY! If Joe wants to take the boys on the road as "Joe's Bros" or something, great, but it will never work if they try it as "Aerosmith." Steven Tyler IS Aerosmith!

  11. 11

Holy Crap does he look like Sh*t ! ! Just goes to show what drugs do. Gawd, I can even smell him ! Yuck ! !

  12. 12

This is not a good idea. The boys might want to re-think this one…

  13. 13

AHAHAHA.. good luck! might as well just throw in the towel til 'Tyler recovers.. what arsehole would see them without Steven? .. yeah thought so!

  14. 14

This is really bad news! Aerosmith has been rockin out since the 70's and is such an amazing band. Without Steven Tyler, I dont think i would care for Aerosmith anymore. This really sucks.

  15. 15

I wish Joe Perry would make a New Years resolution to shut his mouth for awhile.Needless to say, no Steven Tyler,no Aerosmith.I don't know how many times this has to be said.I have seen them in concert 2 times in the last 4 years and I will not be going to anymore.

  16. 16

Re: MatineeIdol – umm…douchebag, in this case, the SINGER DOES MAKE THE BAND.

  17. 17

The dude that came in second on American Idol last year would be good.
Whatever his name is. Other than that…..????I hope that Steven has a speedy recovery because he is irreplaceable. But it would be neat to see someone fill in for him. And good experience for whoever does it. I think it should be someone young and talented.
Oh wait a minute. I know….KID ROCK COULD DO IT. but na…he wouldn't

  18. 18

I would totally see Aerosmith without Steven Tyler. I CAN'T STAND the sound of his voice.

I'll be seeing Motley Crue with special guests Joe Perry Project and Airbourne on a trip north of the 49th next week, so the fact that Perry is playing without Tyler is no mystery to me, Mario.

He really needs to retire already ““` or tone it down after he gets the “` help he needs.

  21. 21

Without steven they are just some old has beens trying 2 look cool.

  22. 22

    Not me!

Look when it's over its over. If Steven is done then so is Aerosmith. All good things must come to an end!

  23. 23

  24. 24

He's in rehab in Minnesota. Maybe that's why they are replacing him!

  25. 25

perez your writing on his shirt is absolutly correct without steven tyler there is no aerosmith, i have been listening to aerosmith since i was still crappin in my pants an no other singer would do, STEVEN TYLER IS THE EPITOME OF AEROSMITH

  26. 26

Perry is a fucking douche bag if he takes this any further. This is Aerosmith not the Joe Perry band and Aerosmith is Steve Tyler. Aerosmith could go on without Perry but not Steve. Back off asshole!!

  27. 27

Re: Be-Atch – ummm retard he's well over 60. How fucking good do you expect him to look? Without a doubt he's had issues with dope but I think his appearance lately can be put down to old fashioned aging. Happens to all of us.

  28. 28

Steven Tyler's voice is too unique to replace - mind you, I can do a mean "Dream On" ;) lol Get well soon Steven! Piss on you Joe Perry - as if you can't take a year off until ST's better! JERK!

  29. 29

Huh… HELLO!?! Aerosmith without Tyler isn't Aerosmith. Come on… If I wanna see a "cover", I'll pay 10$ and go to the bar at the corner of the street!

  30. 30

    dont do it!
    form another band
it wont be aerosmith without steven

  31. 31

Not too many people would go see them without Steven Tyler. Aerosmith is not Aerosmith without him! Good luck fellas!!!!

  32. 32

what about Adam Lambert??? Could be fun for a year.

  33. 33

    Steven Tyler is aerosmith period

  34. 34

Seriously,Is Joe Perry having a contest to see how many Aerosmith fans he can piss off.If he is he's doing an excellent job.Way to go JOE!I'm sorry but after 39 years Steven deserves some loyalty, especially after he has been so nice to the fans throughout the years.Joe doesn't understand that some of us are really concerned for Steven right now and we don't need to hear any more of his bullshit.

  35. 35

nooo! you need tyler for aerosmith. i saw them twice, amazing and irreplacable.

Re: aerotyler – Perry's comments were open-armed. He and the guys were all dressed up and rarin' to work and tour when Tyler hurt his shoulder. These guys are musicians. Musicians REALLY like to be playing. Tyler will be back once he gets his stuff done.

  37. 37

Re: @v@ – I honestly don't see Steven back in Aerosmith after all of this.Joe Perry was making it clear months ago that he did not want Steven in the band anymore.I know musicians like to work but Joe has his own thing going on right now but he is still insisting on replacing ST.Joe does not have me fooled about what is going on.

  38. 38

Um, No Joe. Fail. Like it or not Steven is THE FRONT MAN of Aerosmith. Yes, you are indeed recognizable and you should further pursue your side project with that fellow you play guitar for. Otherwise, I feel rather strongly that any attempt to purusue a tour without your vocalist Steven Tyler will deem very poor sales. Most musicians feel strongly that the music isn't about the money, but if you spent a year of your life touring the nation or world without your lead man, you may find yourself in 2011 looking for a day job. Seriously. Even if this is out of context and you are looking for a "fill in" for rehearsal purposes…its not going to be the same. How are you going to find the groove of the song without the original vocals. Steven would return and everything would have to be a do over. This is all wrong, don't be a twat about this. Practice your instruments and your sets and your future balads for new songs and stage presence as a band minus Tyler to croon our ears. In the mean time, I will save my money for a front row ticket to a Aerosmith show in oh hopefully 2011. I will be patient, promise. I hope Joe Perry can understand my sentiment and endure patience as well for the ultimate return to the stage.

Re: aerotyler – I'm with you on the loyalty thing, but you and I also know that loyalty can only go so far, depending on what's up. We shall see what unfolds, and I shall see the Joe Perry Project next week. : )

good luck with that joe, brad, joey, and tom…….see you on the bottom.
