Then you are a nerd and will probably enjoy this show.

Coming to us from the U.K., FOX has just bought the rights to Torchwood, an extremely popular sci-fi show about "a covert group that investigates and fights alien activity."

The show is still in the development stages, so you have awhile, but it sure is something to get excited for if you have nothing to do on a Friday night.

Torchwood is nothing like Battlestar Galactica. Dick.

  2. 2

This isa GREAT series!!!! I could hardly wait to watch it on BBC…wish they were running that one again..

  3. 3

Its not in the process of being developed, its been on in the Uk for a few seasons.

LOVE torchwood (especially as a dr who fan!) oh and im no nerd.

  4. 4

Torchwood is not in develoment, it's aired three series and is finished for good in UK!

  5. 5

The UK show is very good so I don't see why Americans couldn't do a good one to. I will look to see if they succeeded. By the way, it's nothing like battlestar Galactica.

  6. 6

nothing at all like bsg. but it's amazing!

and it's so not in development stages, for season 3 already aired, and 50% of the people on the ad are already dead ;-)

  7. 7

Torchwood is the Adult spin off of Dr Who. Main player is gay. Very very well written. God only knows what Fox will do to it

  8. 8

    "Still in the development stages"???
It's on BBC Entertainment on Thursdays here in Norway…
Don't which episode they have come to but it's already started showing.

  10. 10

Actually it's probably more like 'Doctor Who' than 'Battlestar'…

  11. 11

Development stages? In the UK, we had the 3rd season last year.

  12. 12

new? hardly. it's a great show. Good man-kisses, thought you would have been all over it by now perez.

  13. 13

What makes this show hot is that two of the lead male characters are lovers !

  14. 14

Love the UK show on BBC America hope the new cast is as sexy as the original one and that they don't whitewash all the homoerotic material

  15. 15

Torchwood is a great programme, we've had it over here in England for a few years now, its grittier than Doctor Who and the characters are likeable. but, it isn't really like BG, since they stay on Earth, in kinda now times, whereas BG is more future-esque i think? haven't watching it in a while.
but there's no need to be rude about it Ishoot, jeez.

  16. 16

Nooo!!! This is such a good show and it will probably get ruined by Fox. Plus it's part of the Doctor Who universe and should stay right there

  17. 17

I luuuurve torchwood it is such a good show!
and as gay as barrowman is you cannot deny how gorgeous and talented he is! lol i would

  18. 18

Perez, you should publicize the new show "Caprica" if you're going to do a "If you like battlestar…" post.

  19. 19

I loved the show when it was on BBC but I don't know about it being on Fox.

  20. 20

    …"If You Like Battlestar Galatica…"
Indeed, if you like (fucking love) Battlestar Galactica it would generally imply you also like & have a full working knowlege of the peerless Dr. Who, for whom the abysmal Torchwood is a bastard child…a red-headed step child if you will.
Torchwood is an infection that must not be allowed to spread.

  23. 23

I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW! Torchwood is awesome!

  24. 24

Captain Jack (John Barrowman) MAKES this show — so if they cannot find a similarly magnetic actor, the show will be a huge mistake

  25. 25

You dumbass people making comments — IN DEVELOPMENT BY FOX!!! Learn to read before making comments that make YOU look stupid.

That means they have to cast the show, create a pilot that makes sense to introduce the show to American audiences, etc. Yes, the show has been on the BBC but that doesn't mean they will just start showing those. They are creating an Americanized version, hence the development phase. And no one can replace John Barrowman as Capt Jack so — I am doubting this can make an easy transition…

  26. 26

Re: Ruth SRe: Ruth SRe: Ruth S – Davies actually announced that there is going to be a 4th season on BBC

  27. 27

I loves me some Captain Jack. Never missed it on BBC America.

  28. 28

torchwood is the least dorky sci-fi show around. its a Dr Who spin off so that would have been a better name-drop than battlestar. im surprised this hasnt been on perez's radar - though of course he didnt know about the dorian gray gay kiss. the leader of the torchwood cast is john Barrowman who is delicious, gay and if i find a way to slip roofies into his food - the father of my future children. its a very sexy show, everyone is having sex with each other, male or female. hopefully theyl transplant john barrowman to the new us version.

  29. 29

Why do successful British shows (this, the office) get remade for American audiences? Why don't they just show the originals? It seems like most of you guys have seen the British ones anyway.

  30. 30

To all the people wondering why this is in development and new when its been on BBC for awhile its because they are redoing it for America…and they are planning to put it on Fox which pretty much screams cancel me before it even starts….

  31. 31

I read that it will continue the main character's story from season 3 onwards and will NOT be a stupid remake. That would be so lame and not make any sense since it's a Doctor Who spin off show. Most everyone else is dead so it makes sense he would start a new Torchwood branch somewhere else (the last one was destroyed.) If they keep Captain Jack and continue his story it would be for the best. The same writer is involved so that's a good sign. Nerd alert! I love Doctor Who, and John Barrowman !!!

  32. 32

This is incredble! Extremely well written, acted, and theming. Also, a major shock to many is that Captain Jack is gay and immortal.

  33. 33

in development?! peretzl, we've had all three seasons here in germany - makes me wonder what you're watching over there in the great us of a^^ i totally LOVE this show! i might be a nerd, dork or whatever else, but i'm so NOT into BSG and torchwood is nothing like it :P

  34. 34

I LOVE Torchwood. It's nothing like BSG tho…

  35. 35

I agree with everyone. Doing an Americanized version of Torchwood is a horrible idea. I don't understand how they are going to do all this when the show is a spin off of Dr. Who. Are they now going to come up with an Americanized version of Dr. Who and ruin that too? Why not just watch the original on BBC America? So much better than anything FOX could come up with.

  36. 36

There you go again, talking about something you know barely anything about. Do you even know where it developed from Perez? You might think you don't give a shit but it's evidence like this that proves was a half-assed job so many people in the media do. Are you even proud of your work?

  37. 37

    ugh.. they'll probably butcher it.

  38. 38

and I believe that Perez likely meant that a U.S. version of the show is in development.. example: there's the UK version of The Office starring Ricky Gervais, which the U.S. version starring Steve Carrell is based on.

  39. 39

Comparing Torchwood to Battlestar is a really f*cking stupid… they are nothing alike… do some research next time so you don't sound like an *sshole.

Re: blacklily.of.the.valley – you hit the nail on the head!

  41. 41

Torchwood is filmed and over. Unless this is a remake. I am surprised you do not know this. I am pretty sure that "Torchwood children of earth" was the series finale. But for those of you who havent seen this show it is great. nothing like battle star galactica. The best part it is a few episodes and children of earth had the doctor in them. Which he isnt even the doctor anymore. Which you probably didnt know either.

  42. 42

Agreed with all who said Torchwood is nothing like Battlestar Galactica. Torchwood is faster-paced and lighter. Glad to hear that it's coming to Fox but get the rest of your facts straight.
    1. Nothing like BSG
    2. Not a new show
    3. A spin-off of Doctor Who

  43. joan says – reply to this

even wikipedia research would have helped this post.

  44. 44

From what I've read today about it… if it gets made, John Barrowman WILL star in the pilot, and possibly the series too. Why on EARTH would you pass that up, Perez? Or is he not to your liking?

  45. 45

That's fimed in Cardiff, about an hour from where I live and 20 minutes from my University :) My mother is a big fan of the show!

  46. 46

first, it's not like battlestar galactica. It's very different and waaaaaay better! Second, I'm a little hesitant on seeing an "americanized" version of this wonderful series. I'm also having trouble even picturing it as it is a spin off of the Doctor Who series…..so yea….unless they want to bring John Borrowman into it, I just don't see it working out.

  47. 47

How is this anything like Battlestar Galactica? Isn't it a spinoff of Doctor Who? That's like saying "If you liked The Cosby Show, you'll love Frasier".

  48. 48

Every time they try to "Americanize" a fabulous British show, they seriously fuck it up - PLEASE don't do that to 'Torchwood'!!!

  49. 49

that show has been on.. and is done with…

  50. 50

oh god.. please don't tell me they're remaking the UK version into an America version.. that will be horrible.. just horrible.. let's just accept that the UK makes way better shows than us and leave it there! :)

  51. 51

I love this series.. It's finished now. I hope Americans don't fuck it up like they do with every other british tv show..

  52. Laura says – reply to this

Torchwood is good… but nothing like Battlestar Galactica which is AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL

  53. 53

Perez. Naughty boy tut tut. Torchwood has already had three seasons. I've seen them all. You should too, RIGHT NOW. Jack is gaytastic. Torchwood is GAY SCI-FI. It's freaking awesome.

  54. 54

  55. 55

this show already runs in Canada. I think it's a Brit/Can production. But it is very cool. Think X-files 2010

  56. 56

uh this won't make much sense to folks unless you a Dr, Who fan since it's a spin off. But we shall see.

  57. 57

    bad bad bad idea!

  58. 58

hello it's been around for years. You'd have to be kidding if you only watched american shows.

  59. 59

No need to insult people perez, for one you shouldn't have said if you like this then you are a nerd, like what the hell. Also do your research, I don't watch Torchwood but I sure as hell know its nothing like BSG. Do your job the right way, and you might wanna proofread your posts (how hard is that?) Ive seen lots of spelling mistakes in your posts. If you want to be respected in your work, then at the very least proofread a little.

  60. 60

Love the show and Barrymore is so sexy and right for his part.

  61. 61

Just because it's not Glee doesn't mean that Torchwood is a "nerd" show. It's good fun, it's campy, and would so not work on Fox. The first thing done would be to make Captain Jack 100% heterosexual when his omnisexuality is part of the charm (along with the Welsh/British cast and locations). But clearly it's in the works and I wouldn't be surprised to see ignorant comments sent to the FCC (if people were to actually watch the better, earlier episodes before CoE because there is not going to be anything offensive on the Fox version). Besides, John Barrowman can do way better. The last season was crap, no need to add more.

  62. 62

    Torchwood Is Terrific!!!
I have already been watching it for 2 years on BBC America!!!
This show is nothing like Battlestar Galactica!
Wrong on that Perez, also the show is not still being figured out it has been a hit since day one on BBC.

  63. 63

I am a nerd, I have a pretty active social life, and I love Torchwood. Please, America, stop remaking British television. Skins might, maybe, sorta kinda, work. But this won't, most don't. The Office is the only really successful Brit remake I can think of. Also, Perez Hilton or rather which ever ghost writer authors this posts, don't be such elitist dicks about things you don't know about. by all means, poke fun, it's what you do. making fun of celebrities is one thing, but don't turn you whole blog into some 6th grade comment flamewar. it's unbecoming. deuces….

  64. 64

John Barrowman is hot…he's the lead actor. He's famous for playing Danny Zuko in Grease. He's megatalented and gay nonetheless. The show has lots of gay inuendos and a few gay love scenes. Torchwood has been around for a while and it is awesome. It is a spinoff of Doctor Who. Major cutie Thomas Knight who plays as Luke Smith is on another spinoff series called Sarah Jane Adventures.

  65. 65

I am from the UK and i LOVE Torchwood, John Barrowman is so hot!!!! :)

  66. 66

Fox is going to completely ruin it, just like they ruined Firefly and Dollhouse. Did anyone remember the fiasco that was them trying to reboot the Doctor Who series back in the mid 90's? (I believe it was '95.) Yes, I have no faith in Fox to actually do Torchwood justice.

  67. 67

Torchwood is a great show better than most shows made here

  68. 68

get your facts straight perez. The whole series (2 seasons + a movie) have been completed for at least a year, already aired on UK and australian television, so no, the show is not in development.
It's also nothing like battlestar galactica. It's very similar to sanctuary, if you even know what that is.
And you'll like it btw. the main character is bisexual and there's numerous steamy scenes with him and other guys.

  69. 69

Torchwood is brilliant :) you lucky people in the U S of A. getting to watch this! We need a new series in the UK!! (Y)

  70. 70

do you mean with american actors? because i already watched this program on bbc. it was excellent. capt jack harkness is so hot.

  71. 71

The Main character Captain Jack Harkness does NOT play a GAY man, he plays an OMNISEXUAL alien, hence he has no specific sexual preference at all and in the TV series he has relationships with men AND women. it has aired 3 series, one of which was a 5 part special. There will be another series over here as the producers confirmed this months ago. I cant imagine this series being remade for an American audience, its a spin-off from Dr Who so there are crossover episodes where characters are seen in both shows. It is a really good addictive show though, and John Barrowman is super hot in it, I'd recommend for Americans to just buy the original version (that or download it, but thats illegal righhhhht :D )

  72. 72

Christ, will America stop nicking British tv series formats? Its all they ever seem to do now. The Office, Life on Mars, now Torchwood? The only thing that you've seem to come up with lately is Glee (which I adore). Remaking British tv series doesn't work… without the Britishness of them they just don't work as well. Especially when it comes to those series that us Brits hold close to our hearts.

I'm surprised you haven't got your very own American Doctor Who yet…

  73. 73

"Children of Earth" was the best season. I miss watching it on BBC America.

  74. 74

Also, John Barrowman aka Captain Jack Harkness, is HOTTT!

  75. 75

  76. 76

TORCHWOOD is a pretty okay show. The last series was sort of heavy in tone. It had a strong gay element, handled with humor and sensitivity. I'm surprised you didn't know of that.

So they're remaking it with American actors instead of showing the perfectly good original? Will they make the main character heterosexual? Will it be as horrible as the failed US remake of LIFE ON MARS, which was a great UK show that should have been broadcast as-is, and not pointlessly redone?

  77. 77

Why can't we think of something original. Why do we only have sequels or remakes.

I thought Hollywood was supposed to be creative.

TORCHWOOD BBC is GREAT. Leave it alone.

  78. 78

this is a spin off from the new (ish) dr who series

get dr who on dvd its much much better than torchwood

  79. 79

Torchwood is realllllly good. It's been and gone here in the UK and was stunning. loved it

  80. 80

Bad idea ! American TV execs always dumb down the really good shows.

  81. 81

Torchwood is amaaaaazing :D captain jack from dr whooooooo :) but it isnt finished for good…
