Rufus and Martha Wainwright have been left with a legacy of art, beauty and music. Their mother was loved by many and thankfully, her children will carry on the gift of love that she has passed on to them.

I saw her at the Ann Arbor Folk Festival a couple of years ago with Rufus and she was amazing. What an amazing woman. She was so talented and has 2 such talented children. I didn't know she was sick and am so saddened by her death. My deepest condolences to the family. It was evident what a great relationship she had with her children. She will be missed.

Sadness. Prayers and thoughts are with Rufus and Martha, hope they find strength in each other through this difficult time. Just watched Rufus with his mother on a documentary about Rufus's opera, Prima Donna. He loved her so much, as her to him. She will be greatly missed.

I'm very sad…part of my childhood is now gone. Anyone remember "the Log Driver's Waltz" ? It would come on TV and I loved it….such an early '80s memory. It's on Youtube I just looked!!!

This is terrible news. For years, I've adored the McGarrigle-Wainwright family, in particular, Rufus and Martha. Their mother had such a strong impact on both of their musical style and the family bonds they have together are so strong. She certainly had some brilliant music of her own. It is a truly sad day to be in a world without her. All my thoughts and prayers go to the whole family.

Kate and sister Anna McGarrigle were a Canadian folk singing duo, whose French and English songs delighted generations.

I met them when they performed at Vassar College in NY at a benefit concert for The Town Crier, an arts venue and restaurant in Pawling, NY. They were warm and really appreciated their fans.
Rest in peace, Kate, and merci beaucoup for the years of wonderful music.
