Haitian born Wyclef Jean said in a press conference on Monday that the country's capital of Port-Au-Prince needs to be evacuated.

Wyclef says the capital is a "morgue", which he witnessed first hand during his visit to Haiti.

But to start the clean up, the people of Haiti need somewhere to go, which Wyclef says is the problem.

Jean explains "We need to migrate at least 2 million people. I give you my word, if I tell them to go, they will go. But they need somewhere to go to."

The musician is asking for the world's help in creating tent cities outside the destroyed capital so the clean up can begin.

Meanwhile, Wyclef's charity Yele Haiti is still deciding how they'll be spending the $2 million they've raised in relief efforts.

Let's hope they use people's generous donations wisely.

Maybe he should have them all move in with him?

    2. 2

We should just take it over and make it into a resort.

I live in Quebec which, as many of you might already know, is a hotbed for Haitian settlement. I can tell you for a fact that Quebec and Canada politicians are already trying to find ways to allow Haitians to come here and become citizens. I can also tell you that they're very unwelcome as they are usually either:

      a) lifetime welfare recipients
      b) criminals breeding criminals

However, everyone always takes pity on the 'poor black man' who refuses to help himself so it's just a matter of time before our province goes to hell. Near 50% of my salary already goes to helping welfare recipients who refuse to work. It's just a matter of time before they up that ratio to 75%.

Why do you have to keep referring to this "use money wisely" and writing your blog posts from the perspective or assumption that Wyclef's not going to help his own people with these donations? He has been holding up the people of Haiti since he got on the scene. He's been on the ground and moving dead bodies. Wyclef is a true soldier for Haiti. I wish people would stop trying to toss him under the bus for a few accounting mistakes years ago.

Your posts about Wyclef are cruel and unfair to the people of Haiti.

I bet many people, who would have donated, haven't because they feel the money won't reach the people who need it.

I can't imagine what these people are going through, they need all the help they can get right now.

make international adoption easier!!! find a way to more quickly get through the red tape bullshit and get these kids a home (even if it's temporary). I'm sure millions of potential parents and foster parents are ready, including myself.

    7. 7

dont even think about bringing these disease carrying vermin to the u.s.

    8. 8

WILL YOU STOP IT WITH HIS FRIGGIN FOUNDATION… there are no basis to this claim NOW IS NOT THE TIME…!!!!!!

Some people's comments are ridiculous and disgusting. I hope none of you or your loved ones are ever in this situation. I cant understand how easy it is for some to treat people as though they are a nuisance. Perpetuating racist stereotypes only continues the vicious cycle of violence, hate, and poverty. To everyone, like Wyclef (and yes I do believe he is innocent), who are doing their part to help those in need thank you for understanding the big picture. FYI if you want to help:
Text "Haiti" to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross
or do so with any organization you prefer :)

      Re: Silver Slimer

Please stop it with these kinds of claims… I'm also from Quebec (Montreal - where the haitians actually live.. who knows where you're from to be so ignorant) I'm ashamed to be linked to what you're saying…
50% of your salary is paid in income tax… true… only you conveniently forgot about free SCHOOL and UNIVERSITY and HEALTHCARE and CHILDCARE, etc…. that's where your money is going! not 50% to haitian welfare recipients! such claims are in badfaith.

Get out of your hicktown, stop reading Journal de Montreal, get off your ass, get educated and stop making such stupid claims. You're embarassing the province. I'm all for sympathy…

    11. 11

I totally agree- Let them move in with all these libral hacks who want them to migrate here. That's all we need are more people to support in the US.

    12. 12

Perez, there is a time and place for everything. And your post was not the time nor the place, it was uncalled for and it only takes away from way is truly needed at this time, assistance to the people of Haiti. A little courtesy, tact and class would do you a lot of good. I know you want to sell, etc but at what price. These kinds of posts, gossip reporting are just so sad to me.

    13. 13

Why isn't he in Haiti helping in some way? Why is it that he'll be cohosting the fundraiser from NYC while Anderson Cooper is in Haiti?

    14. 14

so basically someone down the line is profiting from all this devastation.

    15. 15

Re: so what – He was in Haiti. In fact he was one of the first to go and help. He personally helped dig up people's bodies. However he also has to work from the US to help out with the fundraising. Anderson Cooper is in Haiti because he is doing the news report. They are both amazing individuals who are contributing in one way or another so I dont think its fair to compare their situations.

    16. 16

EXACTLY. MOVE THEM OUT OF THE MORGUE! BUT, SOMEWHERE ELSE IN "HAITI", their country! Moving them out of the city is the only answer!

    17. 17

Re: marymeass – Of course someone is benefitting from this disaster - the liberal Democrats who are already preparing to mass move them (their new voters) to the U.S.A.!!!! If I were a Floridian, I would revolt in the most dramatic way! And in the process of carrying out this mass immigration, HELLO AIDS and VIOLENCE and GOODBYE PAYCHECK (more taxes taken)!!!

    18. 18

Watch it, ANYONE who says ANYTHING against moving tens of thousands of Haitians to the U.S. will be labeled a RASCIST! Mark it down, baby, it's all about politics!

    19. 19

I agree back to africa with those filthy loosers. More money has been given to that skanky country then any other country in the world and they are still all fucked-up. Help the fuckers out and ship them all back to africa and leave that side of the island to mother nature. That is if there is any trees or animals left.

There is NO HOPE FOR HAIT I

    20. 20

ugh, I hope he doesnt think they should be moved to the US..just saying

    21. 21

Re: aliealie – Are you kidding me???

    22. 22

Perez unless you forgot, you are a minority in many ways. Don't you have any mechanism to monitor these disgusting, racists comments? Now I wonder if you would feel differently say had this happen in, oh that's right you are of Cuban ancestry…..how can you allow this without speaking out! You fail on so many levels as a human being and yes I blame you because this is your site. A disclaimer stating you will not allow unfair attacks to be posted would help. But then again, you built your anti-celebrity on negativity……so should anyone be surprised that the sick minds are free to spew their venom here.

    23. 23

I'm sure Wyclef will think of good ways to use this money, like buying champagne and caviar for the homeless, or buying a couple of ferraris and giving people rides around Port-au-Prince, or giving a big "charity" concert where all of his musicians get paid well. You know, that kind of stuff.

    24. 24

Oh stfu Perezzzz about, "Let's hope they use peoples generous donations wisely." What the fuck ever! THere are "several" places the public can make their donations and one of the "safest" ways is through the RedCross. The elderly and innocent children are dying over there and it is absolutely disgusting for any human being to have to suffer starving and going without water when there is soo much fucking money in America period. Perez is a racist hateful f* ag and I cant wait till his demise!

    25. 25

No one gives a shit what Wyclef has to say that's the sad part. What a douche, LET the UN and other authority types decide. It's like that old Dave Cheppelle bit, NO ONE GIVES A SHIT WHAT A CELEBRITY HAS TO SAY! Thumbs down for Wyclef and his thieving from the very people he's wanting to "protect" I mean…he needs Pablicity, the Fugees were popular over 10 years ago.

    26. 26

For God's sake, don't send them HERE!

    27. 27

Gee whiz, he is wondering how to spend his millions. How about, oh I dunno, A FUCKING TENT CITY.

    28. 28

Just like 99% of the money donated to Haiti, that 2 million will go into someones already fat wallet!

    29. 29

To all you haters. I hope you are shown the same reception and have the same comments directed at you when you lose half your family and possessions in the next tragedy that comes to America. Were you given the same treatment when Katrina hit or on 9/11? To me, you are the fuckers that should be sent somewhere else to live because you are the dregs and lowlife of human society!
