McCain's Wife Believes In Marriage Equality!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayJohn McCain

Amazing!

If only we could get this kind of response from our First Lady!

Cindy McCain, mother of vocal marriage equality advocate Meghan McCain and wife to Senator John McCain, has come forward as part of the NOH8 campaign to take a stand for marriage equality.

We couldn't be more pleased to see Cindy take part in this issue because her support proves the one point we've always tried to promote. This is a human rights issue. It has nothing to do with being a Democrat or Republican. It is about seeing AMERICANS treated equally by law!

Bravo, Cindy! Welcome to the cause!

I dont care if gays get "married" and I dont even think a lot of it is religious. but you cant call gay unions marriage because marriage as defined in any dictionary is defined as a union between a man and a woman. why dont you guys just call it a civil union and have all the same rights and tax breaks that come with a traditional marriage. or call it non traditional marriage or garriage but it really cant be marriage as per the definition of marriage. and again this is not based on religion.

McCain is running for reelection. The timing is suspicious and not genuine.

  3. 3

FIRST, BITCHES! (this was very surprising and refreshing to see BTW, go McCain!)

  4. 4

Perez ~ you are such a 2 faced asshole. If I'm not mistaken you had an aweful lot of miserable things to say about Cindy McCain during the election and now that she appears to be "on your side" you sing her praises. What a phoney you are!!!!!

    5

i still will never vote republican after bush. no matter what hicks say about obama. and and if you are gay and republican … wow. can you get any more self-hating?

ps: i find it funny how many gays are all for gay rights and against homophobia but turn out to be the biggest racists. aren't they both forms of hate?

  6. 6

I'm shocked, but in a good way. Now if we could only get the Cheneys on board…

  7. 7

    Glad to see this.

  8. 8

2 bad jons still an ass.

  9. 9

I'm sorry, isn't this the same woman you relentlessly bashed during the election?? How're those Obama douches workin' out for ya dickhead?

  10. 10

well of course she'll be all "for equality" now that she -or her husband- has "nothing to lose".. i bet she'd be really taping that mouth shut if she happened to be the first lady. and I highly doubt she would have ever said something like that, when they were still compaigning.

  11. 11

Quite frankly I think she's doing this for "good" press… Since the 1st lady hasn't shown any stance and most people know that republicans are pretty backwards when it comes to GLBT rights (among many many other things) then she probably thought it was a great opportunity to gather some support from the gay community… and little goes a long way in the long run, maybe there'll be more republicans endorsing this type of stuff and when the next elections come up, they'll use that to say they're in for progress, etc, etc. Same old bullshit coming from politicians…

  12. 12

Loves it!i guess McCains also a pretty cool guy since hes alright with this .

  13. 13

Wow. You TRASH HER all during the election and only when she joins your cause do you like her. Two-faced much? Hey - Dick Cheney's daughter is a lesbian….do you like him now too? Republicans like gays and care for human rights. Dems say they do but are never outspoken about it. Don't view all republicans as that idiot pat robertson.

  14. 14

Too bad she didn't show her support when we were actually voting on it, but its better late than never. Regardless of political views, this IS a civil rights issue and there is no reason why we all can't have the same common rights in relation to our partners. Whether it be 2 men, 2 women, or traditional, we ALL deserve the same rights.

  15. 15

i'm very open minded , but imho, "marriage" is God's law and sanction… and only 4 a man and a woman. ~ i do however believe that a "civil union" should exist for gay people to enter into (exactly as a marriage) with ALL the same "man-given" rights that a marriage entitles. if u want equality - it gives that, while protecting the "marriage" aspect of it according the Bible. fair?

  16. 16

Re: YUCK – Then maybe the actual definition is what needs to be redefined. There is no reason to make a separate disctinction solely based on sexual preference, which is what it is currently. Just sayin.

    17

It's nice to see a McCain on the right side for a change. But I agree the timing is a little suspicious. Marriage is marriage. Man to man/ woman to man. the the dictonary also difines the word "Bootylicious" so… The definitions are changing all the time. Who care shat it's called. Let them get married 50% + of marriages end in DIVORCE anyway…so much for sacred. As far as Perez being two faced. I also almost never have anything nice to say about the McCain's But this is a good thing and when credit is due…credit is given.
    XOXO
    M.

  18. 18

AMAZING. if only she could get through to her husband.

  19. 19

geez, doesnt perez know of her infidelity during McCains Presidential run…go find the pics online

  20. 20

Can you spell hypocrite? You did nothing but trash this woman during the presidential campaign. Suddenly she's your BFF. Cindy McCain has always been more progressive than conservative, not that you let that get in your way of demonizing her in 2008.

  21. 21

    Love her! Killer eyes

  22. 22

She has been pro gay marriage all along. Does anyone ever pay attention around here?

  23. 23

Re: OMGitsme2 – Absolutely on the money here. And Cindy McCain is as phony as Perez is; this is more about getting publicity and winning the gay vote for her husband. Creepy Cindy loved the attention she got while stalking her elderly husband during the campaign; she's obviously in need of a fix. She's as self-serving as Mario!

  24. 24

    I agree with Bozstone.

  25. 25

    How cool. Good for her.

  26. 26

a'm gay, i would vote republican if they are on my side.

  27. 27

So you're not going to call her The Cryptkeeper today, then…ya know, like you did all the OTHER times she was on your site. Sheesh, Perez.

  28. 28

Umm…wake up Perez, you wouldn't get this response from her IF she were the first lady.

  29. 29

hold on here !!!!!!!!!!!!!Are you telling me that Barrack Obama is against Gay marriage but John McCain's wife(The same woman you HATE so much)is for Gay marriage?hahahahahaha, that's awesome!Oh the irony!

  30. 30

sniff sniff….I smell a McCain divorce a-brewing. Cindy has done her duty as a 'good politicians wife', and she is the one with all the cash. Plus all the stories about the hubby berating her publicly….I said Cindy takes a walk soon.

  31. buck says – reply to this

    31

liberals comments are very funny as they continue to be manipulated and exploited by democrats

  32. 32

couldn't agree more!!! I'm a big time republican, but this has nothing to do with politics!! I hope more people like Cindy McCain come out to prove this point.

  33. 33

well, obama never said that he believed in gay marriage he actually said that he didn't so why you guys seem to think that he should now all of a sudden do something about it is beyond me

  34. 34

I know I may not know or sure, but something tells me that she would NOT have done this had she been our First Lady in office. Not buying it

  35. 35

first off…….i believe it is wrong to have bashed her, but she's doing what she wants to do. i have trouble believing that even the McCains would fake coming to the gays ; they aren't that low. Cindy is a very good person. We need tons more people like her ; people who are NORMAL. WHO WANT WHAT IS NORMAL! and for the definition of marriage……you are bringing two people together. when people say "i'm marrying my food items", they arent saying the meat is a man and the sauce is a woman. get over it people. it needs to be a free country. and i agree with Perez, our first lady needs to get over on the band wagon (obama, you suck with this too). Gays are here to stay.

  36. 36

now can you imagine what kind of impact she'd have as first lady?? obama is all talk– he could've promised to cure cancer and you people would've believed him. STOP VOTING WHAT'S POPULAR AND VOTE ON WHAT IS RIGHT!

  37. 37

While I agree with everyone that the timing of this is "suspicious" you have to look at that from both views. Since her husband is a republican and most all republicans are very conservative this will alienate a lot of republicans that voted for him last time becuase of his views. I am not sure that the number of people that will vote for him because of this will offset the number of votes he will lose because of this. I have to say I have loved how McCain has stood up to Obama and asked him the hard questions as to why he isn't doing the things he said. I saw through the Obama bullshit from the beginning and I am not terribly thrilled that I will have to pay for the massive amount of debt he is getting our country into. I know Obama didn't create the problems and it would have been tough for anyone to walk into, but I am not sure he is handling it right. He allowed 2, count them 2 bailouts for the bank and we still cannot figure out where the money went. Next time people vote I hope the do so as informed individuals on the policies and what these people say they are going to do versus making history and supporting someone based on the color of their skin. Here's to the next round, hoping that we as young individuals vote for what we believe, in an educated way. It is up to us to change the direction we are headed, not buying into all politicians lies regardless of what party they represent or their color!

Perez will kiss anyone's ass as long as they are pro-gay.

  39. 39

At least the McCain women aren't cowering to the Religious Right as much as Senator McCain.

  40. 40

Thanks Mrs. McCain. What took you so long?

  41. 41

Re: Bozstone – Nope. I don't agree. Marriage isn't a religious view therefore should not have anything religious in it to define it. But that's just myopinononly. ;)

  42. 42

Re: Debaucherina – Then maybe she should have been more outspoken about it at the time that it mattered. During the election.

  43. 43

Re: sahdahimbou – No he didn't. He believes in civil unions but (as most politicians) he doesn't believe in changing the term of marriage. That's a big difference in saying he doesn't agree with them wanting rights.

  44. 44

If you had stopped for one dissing on her for one moment you would've seen what a great woman she is! I think you owe her an apology.

  45. ommmz says – reply to this

    45

Perez, I'm all for marriage equality and kudos to you for your passion on the issue. But to be making this kind of comparison between Michelle and Cindy over a photo shoot is short-sighted and selfish. We all know the kind of work and example that Michelle is so instrumental in delivering to this country, I think it's very obnoxious of you to write off somebody just because they don't openly support your cause. You're obviously onto something good with your activism, but please involve a little objectivity and intelligence in your rhetoric.

  46. 46

Good for her! That's incredibly awesome!

  47. 47

Re: YUCK – The label of what the relationship is called is relatively unimportant to many gays and lesbians ('garriage' will never be an acceptable option however, seems to me) but because there are ample of us who do desire to associate their faith-based commitment to the contract 'marriage' is the most applicable. There is also a contingent which argues convincingly that calling 'it' one thing for one group of citizens and another thing for another group of citizens is poor symantics and problematic legislatively. My opinion is as long as I legally have the same rights, privileges and responsibilities as my hetero brother, I am fine. Also, perhaps you are unaware but in modern language the cultural meaning of words is subject to change over time.

  48. 48

ANOTHER REASON WHY I'M "STILL" ESTATIC JOHN MCCAIN DIDN'T BECOME PRESIDENT!

  49. 49

BTW, if Perez is behind you [excuse pun], I'm against you. Period.

  50. 50

    love you cindy
hate to be mean but you could have done soooo much better than john

    its not too late!

  51. 51

There is no way she would have done it if her husband had become President. Thats what makes this even more disingenuous. Why celebrate this fake crap.

  52. 52

i call mega-BULLSHIT… if she's so "for" marriage equality, why wait til now ~ a year and a half since the campaign ~ to proclaim it so widely? this is the equivalent of dick cheney coming out in support of gay rights after obama's election, even after shunning his lesbian daughter all the years he was in office. same shit, different minority: this is how the republicans attempt to garner minority voters, and it's all ultimately smoke and mirrors.

  53. 53

    Re: MyOpinionOnly
as much as I thank you for being respectful when disagreeing with me, instead of the usual idiotic rebuttals you find on boards….here's where i disagree with you… :)
Marriage is 100% religious. 100%. it is mentioned in the very first book of the Bible - and it is God's law. Now, "man" has certainly added their "addendums" to it, but all in all - it's God's law.

(can't believe i'm actually going to do this, but here ya go:)

    Gen. 2:18, 21-24

The Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him'…and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh.
Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, 'This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman,' for she was taken out of man.' For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. (NIV)

Here we see the first wedding. We can conclude from this account in Genesis that marriage is God's idea, designed and instituted by the Creator.

  54. 54

Wow, surprising. She did look at Sarah with undressing eyes. Never know?
    Way to go!

  55. 55

it amazes me that people think that changing the meaning of the term "marriage" is no big deal…. we didn't get that term from the freakin internet folks, or urban dictionary. God defined it for us about 500 times (really) in the Bible. Sure, meanings of words change over time — but NOT God's words. PERIOD.

  56. 56

Re: MyOpinionOnly – P.S. it also talks of marriage in the Bible like 500 times…(sounds religious to me!) lol

I've always wondered, how does duck tape on over the mouth signify equal rights marriage wise? I'm totally pro NoH8, but never understood the tape thing….does anyone know?

  59. 59

Re: TCYB – I totally agree. She is sooo doing this for publicity. If the McCain's were for marriage equality why didn't we hear about this before? Oh wait, that's because McCain is NOT for marriage equality! This is just another attempt the Republicans are making to take digs at the President. Shame on them. OBAMA in 2012!!!!

  60. 60

Nevermind! Read up on the NO H8 website. Got it….voices not heard.

  61. 61

Re: Bozstone – " it is mentioned in the very first book of the Bible " this is why so many people probably harass your opinions on these blogs. you are taking what the bible has to say as fact, you let it rule your life. whereas many people think the bible is complete BS!!!!!

  62. 62

Re: Bozstone – OMG give it a rest with the BIBLE preaching… You live your life according to everything the bible says? I doubt it. Most who claim that live in complete hypocrisy. Please don't waste your time trying to defend the legitimacy of the Bible. We are in the 21st century sweetie. Adam and Eve is just a story…….

  63. 63

bitch just wanted her picture took!

  69. 69

Re: Bozstone – 54 Respectfully, marriage is not 100% religious. The proof of this is illustrated by the ability to marry without consent from or affiliation with any church.

Re: YUCK – Why don't you go ahead and check the dictionary.

  71. 71

Goes to show you you can't lump all of us Republicans into one definition of the party. We all have our own views on different issues important to our nation while still embracing the overall beliefs and values which makeup our party.
    —–
It's no different than Democrats. Not every Democrat believes strongly on every Democratic principle but for some reason Republicans are expected to.

  72. 72

I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman

  73. 73

Re: begood.dogood – First time I quoted the Bible on a forum SWEETIE, so YOU give it a break. …. and to the other person - actually people don't dog my opinions all the time…but nice try. :)
I'm not going to argue w anyone about God existing, u either believe or don't. I do believe, end of story.
Oh, and "marriages" ARE done by religious officials (atleast legal ones) for a reason… they are religious….
yea, here's the thing peeps — i am neither a crazy religious fanatic NOR a heathen freakshow - just your average american who has been all over the world so i'm not narrow minded like most, fought for america in the gulf war - and have every friggin right to express my opinion AND quote whatever i want …. oh - and im hot (not to be narcisstic…lol) . so don't try that angle either.
"marriage" is for a man and a woman - gays, have ALL the rights u want - BUT NOT the right to be lawfully married in God's eyes. (and a few other ones, but we ALL don't have those rights) - i'm tempted to quote them just to piss people off, but i won't, they're not worth the effort. ~Peace.

  74. 74

this btych cindy mccain is a druggie and a criminal. shes been high for the last 30 years. the bitch would say anything for drugs while high, even support gay marriage. gay marriage is the end of society. think about it, whats next, legalization of rape, burglary and murder?

  75. 75

See Republicans do care….I hope everyone is re-thinking….

  76. 76

Re: begood.dogood – btw, i can quote WHATEVA i want WHENEVA i want …. i'm not defending anything or preaching anything (and even if i was, SO WHAT????) — it was quoted to show the person that i was speaking to (WHICH BTW WASNT YOU) —- how marriage is religious ("God made" persay) - cuz i know u think im some shy christian and ur gonna hurt my feelings and be big and tough and say "mean things" about me — well guess what loser —- U HAVE NO IDEA WHO I AM ! and I'm actually one cool mofo. OH, here's a quote for you : "FCUK OFF" LMAO!!!!!

  77. 77

Re: JackTheRipper – Here's a newsflash for ya: He exists for me!!! To lump him in with the Easter Bunny? Newsflash for you: LAME!

  78. 78

I actually like her, she is a great woman that stands up for a lot of things. Who cares if she is a democrat or republican its about what she does.

  79. 79

@Bozstone you claim to be open-minded but you're too closed off by using the Bible as pure evidence that GOD intended marriage to be between man and woman. Gay people are born gay. Straight people are born gay. Give them the same rights. It only makes sense. The Bible was written by MAN.

  80. 80

    Wow is that real?!

  81. 81

Re: Bozstone – you call yourself open-minded yet refute the rights of gay people. gay people were born gay. straight people were born straight. just give them the same rights. they deserve them. The Bible was written changed over and over by MAN. I believe in God. Jesus' true lesson was LOVE. So stfu.

  82. 82

didn't you hate her a few months ago? now you're praising her? great.

  83. 83

Certainly more impressive than appearing on the Food Network - which is the last place I saw Obamessiah's wife, Michelle. I nearly choked when I saw that Barbara Walter's most fascinating person for 2009 was…Michelle Obama. Big surprise - yes, she is SOOO fascinating! And what did Barbara ask her about? HER ARMS! The ignorance and apathy of most Americans is disturbing.

You claim "Oh, and "marriages" ARE done by religious officials (atleast legal ones) for a reason… they are religious…" IM SORRY TO BREAK THIS TO YOU… but legal marriages DO NOT NEED TO BE DONE BY RELIGIOUS OFFICIALS? Who the hell gives you your information??? A marriage ceremony may be officiated either by a religious official, by a government official or by a state approved celebrant. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!!! So fluck you! muahahhaha

  99. 99

Re: SweetMelissa1224 – Don't pat yourself on the back for being republcian and for gay rights, the republican party was one hundered percent behind funding and helping the anti-gay marriage haters in prop 8 here in Ca. The republicans are behind every single antigay thing happening as far as law and as far as targeting gay people on all issues. The fact that some educated tolerant republicans are coming out in support of gay marriage is great but that doesn't change the fact that the republcian party is behind every antigay thing including opposing civil unions and worker protections for gay people and even opposing school anti-bullying legislation.

  100. 100

Re: RedWingsFan – Actually in the most important battle on prop h8 in Ca ,Obama supported the gay marriage side, and Jon Mccain came out against it. So while it's nice that Cindy Mccain is gay friendly It's not quite as important now.
