Miley Cyrus Goes Viral To Talk Suicide Prevention
A rather heavy cause for her to support, but an important one none the less.
While her YouTube page is usually filled with videos of dance-offs and interviews with Ryan Seacrest, Miley Cyrus recently posted a video to actually do some good.
Miley is supporting a group called To Write Love on Her Arms, a non-profit organization looking to create an online community for people considering suicide. IMAlive will allow people to talk one on one with certified staff and volunteers and be provided with real-time online crisis support.
The organization is looking for funding for this project and it just so happens that they are currently in 2nd place for a $1 million dollar prize being awarded to the organization with the most votes.
Miley wants us all to vote for TWLOHA. Watch her heartfelt plea above and if you have a moment, CLICK HERE to vote for the organization.

i'm sure there will be a lot of hate for her on this.. but it's great she's supporting this. i support twloha with everything in me and it really helped one of my friends before she lost her life to suicide. i hope the organization wins and can put the money to helping others

it's not JUST for suicide! It's for all people suffering with mental illness. I participated in their last 'twloha' day. Having a bipolar mother it was really important to me. I don't think it's right to portray it as JUST suicide prevention. Yes, that is part of depression, but mental illness is so much larger than that.
Yea Perez, she supports this cause with hollywood and people like you constantly putting her down she knows what its like to consider suicide. Great cause! But, we need to do something for Haiti, so I voted for Invisible Children. They are trying to end a 23 year long war in Uganda, and they are going to donate 100k to Haiti!!!
That's cool. I voted for Invisible Children because if they win the $1 million, they're committed to giving $100,000 to Haiti relief efforts. They're the only organization doing that.

I've had two friends commit suicide in the past nine months…this is a great cause.
This is super great. But you know what else is great? The fact that there is an organization out there not only focusing on it's own efforts in ending Africa's Longest Running War but also provide relief to Haiti. Add a second vote for Invisible Children—they're planning to give $100,000 to Haiti Relief if they win!
As someone who has lost a friend to suicide, I totally understand why people support suicide prevention. I also support suicide prevention programs. In light of the recent devastation in Haiti though, I think that it would be awesome to have an organization focused on Haiti relief efforts, but there aren't any in the competition. Only one organization is donating money towards the Haiti relief if they win, and that's Invisible Children. I was already a fan of them, but this is even more awesome. Check them out please. They're donating $100,000 to Haiti if they get enough votes. Saving lives through suicide prevention is important, but it's just as important to save lives through whatever means you can, including helping those in Haiti.

This is such a good thing however i agree with the last couple of comments. I voted for Invisible Children as they are such an awesome non-profit focusing on war affected areas in Northern Uganda and fighting toward ending the longest running war in Africa. But that's not all, they are giving $100,000 towards aid relief in Haiti (which is in great need right now) Such a great cause. Vote Invisible Children!

While this is a VERY VERY important cause and one I'm passionate about, I'm going to sit here and listen to Miley Cyrus plea to me to do something to get these people a million dollars? TWLOHA is a wonderful cause to support. It's suicide/self mutilation prevention. You never know who is being affected by depression in a way that could cause them to want to take their own life or hurt themselves because they feel so alone and trapped. This organization wants to provide support, friendship, and help to people who desperately need it. Right on, Miley! I'm glad she brought attention to this organization. I encourage you to vote and maybe save a life worth saving.

This is a great charity. I have written love on my arms for the past 2 years. Suicide is still such a taboo subject and needs to be brought to the forefront for those who are suffering silently.
I support TWLOHA, but I feel as if there are many other charities on this list who desperately need the money more, because TWLOHA makes SO much money from the shirts they sell at Hot Topic. I voted for Invisible Children, and I think everyone should vote for them too.

TWLOHA has a really shady history of how they allocate their funds. They say themselves that they aren't professionals and that they just try to serve as a bridge between suicidal/depressed people and help. If you donate $100 to TWLOHA, they keep a percentage of it, and divide out the rest between other suicide prevention groups. Why not just donate directly towards those groups instead of using TWLOHA as a middle-man who will use a percentage of your money to go towards their administrative costs? Go check out TWLOHA's financial info that they're required to list on their website and you'll see everything I'm saying is true.
Also, TWLOHA has a history of supporting/donating money to organizations who use such practices as "de-gaying". Might want to check into that little tidbit, Perez.
AND LASTLY, get your facts straight..this whole campaign but on by Chase Community Giving is donating $5 million total, $1 million each to the top 5. Invisible Children is in first place where it should rightly be, TWLOHA is in second place and they'll (unfortunately) receive $1 million also to set up their IM service.
I'm not against suicide prevention but I'm against TWLOHA which glamorizes suicide/S.I. and makes it seem like a cool emo fad.

TWLOHA does in no way support or help fund "de-gayifying" organizations. They do not believe in discrimination.
TWOLHA isn't all about suicide/depression/mental illness. Did you ever read Renee Yohe's story, you know the reason the whole organization started. It's about helping people go to counseling who have been abused both sexually and physically, battled drug/substance abuse, suffered from a mental illness, and are coping with suicide. It helps them realize that there are better days and that hope is possible.
You obviously didn't do your research correctly.
