Ian McKellan Calls Out Sports World For Not Accepting Gay Athletes!

Sir Ian McKellen slammed the sports industry for the lack of acceptance of openly gay athletes and asserts that many sports stars are too "afraid" to "come out" because they fear losing fans and support.
He tells the BBC:
"When it comes to the business of simply being honest about who they are, some of them (sports stars) become little shrinking violets because they're afraid, probably, of being booed from the terraces, and that must be a horrible experience and shame on people who do it.
"But it ain't (sic) going to stop someone being a fantastic footballer because they're honest about their private lives, is it? I don't believe so and the world is changing and sport, I'm afraid, is very slow to catch up."

MOST people MARIO, now listen carefully, DON'T CARE WHAT PEOPLE'S SEXUAL ORIENTATION IS. It is only when it gets shoved in their faces OVER AND OVER again that people start getting upset. I would assume that most team sports, the players know if another one is gay, since they are on the road and together 24/7. It again, seems only to be a problem when it become a BIG BIG deal. Like mario calling for men to out themselves, putting pressure on them instead of them living their lives the way THEY WANT TOO

No one cares about who is gay or not in professional sports. If youre good the fans will support you no matter what. If youre bad, you will be booed. Perez, there are several athletes that have come out and announced that they were gay or lesbian. NOT ONE has lost any sponsorships or fan support. Dont even go there. This post and quote from this old man is just wrong. I know it must kill you to admit that gays and lesbians are treated just fine in professional sports. The locker rooms are so friggin big nowadays that if an athlete is uncomfortable with a gay teammate, he can move to another side of the locker room where he would not even see that gay individual. This is as much of an issue in sports as it is anywhere else but for say that the sports world is less tolerant of gays or lesbians is flat our wrong and an insult to the millions of fans around the world.
I am straight. I am a huge fan of sports. I could not give a shit if my favorite athlete or athletes are gay or straight. It makes no difference to me. I will support them the same exact way. Most gay athletes know this so maybe, just maybe, they react on common sense and realize that no one gives a shit if they are gay or not so they dont bring media attention to the subject. Why bring media attention from lame websites such as this one and distract the team goals. It would not make any sense to do that at all. I didnt hear any popular straight athlete come out in the last year and say "HEY! I just wanted you to know that Im straight!" Dude, no one cares.
