Friday night's Hope for Haiti Now telethon earned a record-breaking amount of donations for the earthquake relief effort in Haiti!

Although the numbers are rough, the star-studded telethon raised a reported $58 million on Friday night!!!!!

And you can expect that number to grow exponentially once the figures are in from the iTunes store - the Hope for Haiti Now album, a soundtrack of the night's performances, was #1 in 18 different countries on Saturday!

Bravo.

Every little bit helps!

When does the telethon for our own country (USA) air??

  2. 2

Let's see, 58 million divided by 2 million homeless, that's 28 bucks apiece. We're going to need a LOT more…

  3. 3

Too bad we can't raise that kind of money for OUR homeless, starving, home-losing, loss of jobs Americans.

  4. 4

Totally media coverage must had cost well over 200 million dollars. 58 million for Haiti = Totally Fail.

  5. 5

who cares about Hati when we have people here in our own county that need the money. Im only speaking about our legit citizens becuase all the illegals need to be tossed the fkk out on their asses with no money.

Canadians have donated $70 million which is being matched dollar for dollar from the Canadian government! Keep it up, everyone!

    7

AND WHAT HAVE YOU CONTRIBUTED TO HAITI, PEREZ?

    I KNEW IT….

    NADA
    NOTHING

    GO FIGURE

    YOU LOSER

  8. 8

Wow, weird to see the US 'only' manages to raise $58 million where the Netherlands already raised EUR 84 million with a population of 16.5 million people!

  9. 9

lol 58 million. I read that the same type of telethon in the Netherlands (population 15million) raised 83 million euro (117 million dollar)!

kind of sad if you ask me…

  10. 10

I bet Angelina will buy a kid or two.

  11. 11

Who cares!!! We need the money here for our one American born homeless and hungry. Let someone else take care of Haiti we have our own bigger problems. And if no one will….oh well………..

  12. 12

Re: kansas – I AGREE WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!

  13. 13

NOT ONE POOR DESPERATELY NEEDY HAITIAN WILL EVER SEE OR TOUCH ONE PENNY OF THAT MONEY, OR DECIDE WHAT IT IS SPENT ON!

NOT ONE DESPERATE FATHER WILL BE GIVEN $5 and told "GO GET WHAT YOU & YOUR FAMILY NEEDS" Their "NEEDS" will be decided by charities; the same charities that have laundered BILLIONS of dollars through this poor country for decades SPEWING that "JESUS SAVE" insanity!

WELL-OFF, NOT POOR, NOT HOMELESS, NOT IN CRISIS PEOPLE WILL GET EVERY CENT OF THAT MONEY!

  14. pomme says – reply to this

    14

    good for haiti!

  15. 15

TOO BAD NO ONE IN HAITI WILL SEE ANY OF THIS MONEY!!! Way to call in and donate America! Good thing you made a bunch of fat cats even richer. Does NO ONE remem?ber the Katrina telethon?!?! How much money was raised then. Next to none of that money went to help people in New Orleans. Just Look at that city, what was helped by the donations. My guess…nothing, no one!

  16. 16

    Wonderful.

  17. 17

And then again YOU call 58 million a success? Shit, Jerry Lewis raises more than that!
Americans can't afford shit right now-everyone is losing their jobs, their homes, etc. Sorry, I would rather walk up to someone homeless here in the US and hand them my money. No offense to Haiti. Let the celebrities give their money, and us normal Joe's help our own.

  18. 18

Re: MediumBrownBag – WE, meaning the united states, as a people, had raised over 300 million dollars along with the gov't's 100 million dollars for over $400 million BEFORE THE TELETHON. WE DID NOT NEED THE TELETHON TO TELL US TO GIVE. People were giving from day 1, not waiting until day 11, the day of the telethon. GOOGLE IT. Billions world wide had already been raised before the telethon. people, corporations, countries, were not sitting on their asses waiting for Clooney and Hollywood to tell them to contribute.

  19. 19

In the Netherlands we had 84 million Euro's YAY!
And that for a small country :D

  20. 20

I dont live in the US, so cant speak for those who live there, but I do understand why ppl would think that the money goin to Haiti would help many in the states. Im not gonna donate a cent, just cuz Im pretty sure that money dont go where they should go.. And lots of money is gonna go to Haiti, which means that those with power are gonna get most of it.. It's sad.. but true. If I had the money, id probably go to Haiti and hand the money myself, rather than call in some number

  21. 21

now if only we could hold a telethon for our economy….

  22. 22

Re: booznbabes[/re] I see your point, but that was just one night. There are many other efforts as well. For example, the Canadian government is matching every dollar donated to a variety of organizations, such as the Canadian Red Cross, Free the Children, Oxfam Canada, Unicef, World Vision, Plan. Again, that's only up to 50 million (so in total a possible 100 million), but together all the donations can make a big difference and any bit helps.

  23. 23

my country ( the netherlands) raised 83 million EURO!!!.

  24. 24

The ignorant comments here are amazing. WOW, just….. wow.

  25. 25

Um, when you think about it, there are like 350 million people who live in America. If everyone gave $1…..

  26. 26

I'm from the Netherlands and we only have 16 million people living here and we've raised 41,7 million euros (and it's now doubled by the government)! That's more then your 58 million USD, cause that's 'only' 41,3 million in euros! So, I'm sorry but it's a very big fail of the US!

  27. 27

I'm over Haiti… dumb people need to look in their own backyard!! STUPID ASS CELEBRITIES… I HATE THEM … bunch of fucktards with no common sense.

  28. 28

If you people saying "what about US" "what about a telethon for our economy" What exactly is stopping you from helping out hungry ppl in America? Instead of bitching on Perez.com try helping and volunteering at a homeless shelter. Just because you live in America doesn't mean you have to only help out americans. People that donated understood that; appearantly you complainers don't.

I hope the money doesn go to Haiti! I love my fellow West Indians!!

  29. 29

I heard you tried to donate a warehouse off unsold copies of your book but it was rejected because Haitians have suffered enough.

  30. 30

Its so nice to see people coming to together, even in these uneven times.

  31. 31

Same kind of telethon in the Netherlands (16 million people) raised more than double that amount… Every little bit helps of course, but is a bit disappointing

  32. 32

it's 58 million in ONE telethon. not 58 million total. stop bragging about your countries total contribution vs. the ONE telethon . Local business all over our country (US) are taking donations for Haiti, colleges, radio stations, governments, etc. Do you really think US is only going to give 58…? Wake up. And who cares about a countrys individual contribution, anyway. ANY contribution, rather a dollar or one hundred million dollars, goes to show how good humanity can really be, if we pull together. instead of individually getting online to bash any and anything, just because you can :\ like connan said, "cynnism sucks!" if you want to complain about the 2 million homeless, or the houses going into foreclosure, or the starving people, or the people who loose their jobs, then you should try and do something about it. volunteer at a homeless shelter, etc. etc. etc.

Re: rejco100 – Cynic much. Any response to my Andy Dick post.

  34. 34

Yeah and I'm sure ALL of that money is gonna be used to help Haitians and none of it is going to be pocketed. Of course Haiti needs help but I have a gut feeling only a percentage of all these funds raised is going to be given to Haitians to help them rebuild their lives.

  35. 35

Re: RiannDevos – Sorry, but over 100 million had been raised prior to this marathon. Good for the Netherlands anyway though.

  36. 36

with all respect … 'we' in The Netherlands collected 116 million USD … we have 16 million people living here … before you call it a success the US should collect way much more :-)

    Dont forget Haïti !!!

  37. 37

Re: chelsuz – Uh, the other countries aren't bragging, they're talking about ONE telethon as well.

  38. 38

I expected more to be honest. I live in the Netherlands.. and we raised 83 milion euro for Haiti.. that's way more than the USA… ’cause 1 dollar, is the same as 0,73 euro..
So I'm a little surprised, because the Netherlands is wayyyy smaller than te USA.

  39. 39

The United States has just as many homeless veterans and disabled people living on the streets with no help too! The Poverty Pimps rake in BILLIONS, after the profiteers take their cuts, there's nothing left for the poor and homeless.

  40. 40

What's the population of the US? That's not even a dollar per US resident. Meanwhile Canada raised 67 million dollars the first night with a population of 33 million. It's dangerous to say that this was a success - people will stop giving because they'll think they've done enough.

  41. 41

How come a little country like holland with only 16mil. ppl gathered up to 83mil?!

  42. 42

Ok, i didn't read the other comments first.. so I think it was allready clear enough about the netherlands :P

  43. 43

Re: chelsuz – Volunteering is great but apparently there is a lot of extra money floating around that can help this country (USA). If a telethon can be oranized in a matter of days…… why has no one organized one for our starving and homeless?

  44. 44

WE ALL NEED TO GIVE , GIVE AND GIVE !! ITS IS SO SAD THAT THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES AND ITS GOOD-HEARTED LONG SUFFERING PEOPLE THAT ARE STRUGGLING EACH DAY OF THEIR LIVES, ARE ALWAYS HARD HIT BY THESE NATURAL DISASTERS…MORE THAN DEVELOPED COUNTRIES…THE LEAST WE CAN DO IS TO SEND THEM OUR GOOD WISHES AND POSITIVE ENERGY VIA MUCH NEEDED $$$ AND ALSO WITH OUR PRAYERS… WE MUST GIVE OUR MONEY TO HELP SAVE LIVES…THERE ARE CHILDREN DYING …REGULAR CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO EMBATTLED NATIONS SHOULD BE A PRIORITY FOR THOSE OF US WHO LIVE IN COMFORT IN RICH NATIONS…IT IS CALLED BALANCE OF EQUITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE…GOD IS WATCHING !!

  45. 45

Are you kidding me??? 58 Million USD?? with almost 300 mill living in the us?? The netherlands made 84 million euro that is over 100 million USD and there are 16 million people living there!!!

  46. 46

    Keep donating people!!

  47. 47

The 40 something million euro in the Netherland was for the Telethon.
The government doubled it so that's about 85 million euro.
The radiostations also collected 8 million something on one day.
And we're not even counting the numerous individuel initiatives that are still going strong.

No offense america but 58 million dollars is sad. On the other hand, that money could also be used for Katrina victims….it's still a mess over there.

  48. 48

Re: Meggie1230 – Who cares? I wish a earthquake would be where YOU are,and you see who cares.Ignorant bitch.

  49. 49

How much fucken money do they need? Why doesnt their own goverment helo fuck I need help too send me sum money!

  50. 50

Re: Meggie1230 – wow your dummer than me

  51. 51

    Re: RiannDevos
That's only from the telethon. The government, charities, corporation, Red Cross, etc gave in total about $500 million. So do me a favor, will you? Shove your head far up in your ass. Netherlands is a big fail. The USA raised more money in total.

    Get a muzzle, please.

  52. 52

    what the hell..
in Holland we collected 83 million EURO
and we are with 16 million peepz in the country

  53. 53

Let's hope the $$ gets where it is supposed to go. Anyone remember the telethon for 9/11? Did we ever find out where it went?

  54. 54

Re: kansas – I don't know about you, but there's a tiny telethon for 'our' hungry and homeless every week when I look at the income taxes I pay.

  55. 55

That's all? We had last week in Germany a similar show (well, only with german celebrities) and we put 18.000.000 € together, in a couple of hours. But in Germany live only 80.000.000 people …

  56. 56

Don Francisco had a telethon for haiti last nigh also, it went 5 hours long all of our latin favorites came out to show there support for haiti!

  57. 57

I think Hollywood is very STYLISH for doing this event.
    www.thethrifters.net

  58. 58

I just hope they dont bring all those Haitians over to take all our jobs and land! All respect for Obama will be lost…!

Funny how we have so many ppl in our own country starving and homeless and nobody cares about them!

I guess it's not that funny

  59. 59

Re: Dolcissima – The US is a big fail regardless of this telethon. And we're not talking totals, we're taking telethons and fact is other countries raised more money with their telethons (1 per country) than the US did.

  60. Bucks says – reply to this

    60

Re: Only-Me – Are you kidding me. Enough of the Netherlands bullshit and what you idiots donated for money. You donate to donate, not to compare who donated more. Really, I hope you have enough sense to realize that there are many charities where people can donate so therefore there will be many lists of how much was donated. Rather than bitch on this US site, go on a website based out of the Netherlands and bitch! Rather then opening your mouth and inserting your foot you should have checked out how much money the US has donated, how many US citizens went there to help and how much food, water, and medical items were sent. So excuse, the netherlands…. get your shit straight before you comment on anything. Go back to your sheep :-) ! We all know what you do at night!

  61. 61

My God Americans are so stupid and isocratic. Why on earth couldn't the earthqauke happen here. People over in haiti seem to be better people.

  62. 62

all of you who are saying that we should care about our own country are a bunch of ignorant, selfish assholes. There are homeless shelters all over this country. The unemployed still get paid. most importantly, we have many resources and welfare programs. Haiti was the poorest country in the western hemisphere before the earthquake! now, they are even worse. A homeless person in the US lives a better life than people in Haiti with a roof over their heads. STOP your whining! you guys have no idea how well off we are in America. Haitians need help. And America, the giving country that we are, will help. Because that's what Americans do, they help out people in need. By the way, the people who lost their jobs or who are homeless in the US have no one to blame but themselves. On the other hand, the Haitians did not cause the earthquake. This is not their fault.

  63. 63

I'm an advocate for helping the disabled, poor, homeless, unemployed, sick and mentally ill persons here in the US. What happened in Haiti is upsetting, but shouldn't be a surprise by any means. Measures and strategic planning should have been put in place by their 'government' prior to these earthquakes as the potential for this type of event was eminent. I know, I know but it is not the innocent peoples fault, well in today's age it is never anyone's fault. That's the problem. But while it is no ones fault it is always someones responsibility.

But while everyone is chanting to donate to the cause, everyone continues to forget or disregard the conditions of rural American in addition to the countless civil wars and inhuman conditions in other parts of the world like Africa.

    Everyone has their own agendas.

  64. Lucas says – reply to this

    64

And how much do you think will go to the victims? Ohhhh…about 2K. Makes me sick.

If the supplies already donated cannot be delivered to the victims, what is this going to do? People are being SHOT in the back for trying to get rice.

GO AMERICA! Fund the corrupt government so they can buy new homes, more gold, and what not. Know your money is going into a black hole that will NOT help the victims. You are all stupid!!!

Look at the history of Haiti and figure it out for yourselves….

I sit and talk with them, share their woes. I buy them meals, umbrellas, etc. No, I won't give a cent to Haiti, when people are desperate here!

  66. 66

Re: soccergirlie003 – I'm sorry but homeless people in America do not have shelter over their heads. Take a trip into rural American and inform yourself.

  67. 67

Re: soccergirlie003 – If Haiti is "sooo poor" and such a third world country why do they have so many high end hotels??? They have money they just dont want to help their ppl! And they want the USA to pick up the slack!

I'm glad a lot of countries are donating money to Haiti, no matter the amount of money

  77. 77

i know that we should be raising money for our own country also but we should really be happy that we raised all of that money for the people in Haiti who needed it badly.

58 million– and more coming– is a lot of money that goes to the people of Haiti who need it the most ot of everyone in the world right now… congrats!

  78. 78

    Re: Julie Newmar – 24 I couldn't agree more.

  79. 79

WOWWWWW…. THEY CAN NOW REBUILD HAITI, NEW ORLEANS
    .
    .
AND A FEW MORE CITYS IN NEED OF HELP WITH THAT 58 MILLI.!!!

  80. 80

you know thats nice and shit, but can someone tell me about New Orleans. People here in our own country can't even get in their own houses after how many years?> why can't we help our own people here in the US?

  81. 81

I expect people to be very furious at what I am going to say, but, I really don't care.. I completely agree with alot of the people leaving comments about- What about America. Granted, what has just happened in Haiti is absolutely devistating but, who is helping us with our problems, as AMERICANS??? We owe China so much money but yet the "celebrities" can raise this enormous amount of money for Haiti. I would like to think that if something this devistating happened to us, other countries would get involved and help, but we seem to do alot of helping other people and not helping OUR OWN…

  82. 82

58 million? where are the rest of the money, i thought USA and some other countries donated money already…well on TV i still see some people suffering and still of devries…i mean c'mon….The red cross and other charity needs to open their books…and they need to prove to us that they are using the money for good cause.

  83. 83

there are too many blacks fucking up this planet as it is. WHEN YOU GIVE MONEY TO HAITI YOU SUPPORT IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDING AND CRIMINAL LIFESTYLES. SO DONT GIVE TO HAITI!!!!!!!!!

  84. 84

Julia Roberts looked old and ugly in the telethon….Just say'n !

  85. 85

Wow. The unbelievable racial comments. America, wake up !

  86. 86

I'm glad that people are helping.
These people need our help more than ever.
And yes, I do understand that there are people in the United States that are homeless, etc., etc., but an earthquake just happened, leaving thousands dead in days. They didn't particularily ask for this to happen. God bless them all!

  87. 87

Look at you, me me me. When are we having a tetethon for the U.S? Are you fucking kidding me right now? No wonder they ONLY got 58 mil. Richest fing country in the world and you're still being selfish. Look at how many organizations there are to help the U.S. people. Hot meals, shelters, clothes, jobs and apartment programs. They can get help here easier than in Haiti. I gave and I can't even rub 2 cents together. Give up the burger for one day and donate 5 bucks. Can you do that?

  88. 88

HOW ABOUT A "HELP AMERICA" TELETHON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  89. 89

For the last 60 years those Religious Charities have been laundering…I mean spending billions of dollars converting…I mean education the poor people of Haiti, when is that "JESUS SAVES" thingy gonna kick-in?

  90. 90

now if that 58 million was raised for the US we probably would no longer have a bad economy. Funny how all these celebs who LIVE in America and US people living in America play a big role in all the money they make yet they use it to help another Country

  91. 91

oh and lets not forget that the damage from Hurricane Katrina is far from fixed, where is there telethon?

  92. 92

    Right on kansas and PreyToYou!!!!!
While I sympathize w/Haiti, this country (USA) is in just as much need…where is the help?

  93. 93

    Re: soccergirlie003
Really buddy? Seems your the ignorant one. Do some checking. Many homeless shelters are gone due to budget cuts. And there is a whole sector of the working that have run out of unemployment benefits that aren't accounted for when the asses spew unemployment rates.
As for all the other places who say they will help, sure they will of your an illegal immigrant w/tons of kids and unmarried. Again do some research b4 you open your yap.

  94. 94

    Re: soccergirlie003
Oh and by the way, no in many many instances it's not the people's fault. Are they responsible for sending jobs overseas? NO. Are they responsible for the greed of the American corporations and CEO's? NO. God your stupid. You make it embarrassing to call myself an American.

  100. 100

Too bad the people in need will never see a dime of that money it will just go into someone’s greedy pocket!
I wish people would help people in American that are struggling with the basic needs like food, shelter, health care not everyone in American is wealthy!
