Although Conan refrained from slamming NBC during his last night on the Tonight Show, Coco had no problem spending the network's $$$!

According to The Roots' drummer and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon house band leader Questlove, NBC paid $500,000 for Tom Hanks to walk out to The Beatles' Lovely Rita (in honor of Hanks' wife, Rita Wilson) on Conan's Friday night show!!

Tweeted Questlove:

"yo i hate spoiling but i will have you know that walk on song we just heard was half a milli. i know cause i got the list rate at nbc… anytime you use the beatles on tv that will cost you dearly."

Ha!

That's B.S. I work in the industry. Song probably cost between $15-25,000 (excerpts of Beatles and Rolling Stone songs can be as high as $100,000). Not chump change but it's not 1/2 a million.

  2. 2

dude, this is really old news.

  3. 3

    LOLz

  4. 4

I'm totally team Coco, but wasting this much money when Haiti needs to be rebuilt is a little tragic. I know the money wouldn't have gone to Haiti had it not been spent on songrights but this much waste is just depressing after what has happened.

  5. 5

Wow that's crazy but awesome! I would have done the same Conan, but what's even crazier is that fact that Micheal Jackson even in death still reaps the prophets of the Beatles… two smart guys if I must say!

  6. 6

Team CoCo? What a joke! This not-so-funny guy gets to walk away from a 7 month job for 33 million dollars, all he has to do was to deliver some high pitched bad jokes and slam his employer to dismal ratings, while millions of American struggle to put roofs over their heads. He certainly will not have my sympathy and support!

  7. 7

Perez you are a idiot. Conan already said the whole wasting NBC money was a joke. The show isn't live, so don't you think NBC would edit out/mute something that if aired would cost them half a million dollars?

  8. 8

    I don't believe that for a minute…..

  9. 9

Re: annetagonistic – i completely agree. and this is actually exactly what i was thinking when i read this

  10. 10

But I do believe Coco said Checkmate Bitches!

  11. 11

Hey Conan - maybe that $500K would have been better spent on something that REALLY matters like Haiti instead of soothing your wounded ego. No more sympathy from me. Grow up and act like an adult. People are losing their jobs all over this country with no warning or no fairness and without a $35 mil payday. Perez, you should be embarrassed too.

  12. 12

conan said so himself that IT WAS A JOKE. You had better update this bullshit you're perpetuating. HE ADMITTED IT ON HIS LAST SHOW AFTER "RUINING" A PICASSO!

    UPDATE THE FACTS!!

  13. 13

He is such a tool!!!!!!!! After the fame and the big break he got from them this is how he repays them!? IDIOT. He just makes more and more of a mockery of his own track record, taking away the good years he did have with this dumb shit. Tool.

  14. 14

Will Ferrell's act at the end with the pregnant woman makes me hate Conan and Will forever. How could two middle aged men could act like this. I can see Jimmy Fallon or maybe Jimmy Kimmel, as they are much younger… but these two old men are not funny. Grow up. Send your money to Haiti.

  15. 15

God Perez you really are a dumbf*ck.
Even though every stunt by Conan was refuted as a hoax even by him, your dumbass is still buying it.
Did you get your degree in a cereal box?

  16. 16

I can't stand Conan. He's not funny, Jay is much better. I don't understand why people are blaming Jay, it's the network who made the decision, not Jay. So nice to know that companies can just piss away money like that over stupid shit, just to please a diva.

  17. 17

I've wondered WHY radio stations so seldom play the best musicians of the 60's, 70's and 80's. And I've wondered if the cost was the reason. Apparently so. Too bad because replaying D-level music over and over again doesn't bring the viewers in.

  18. 18

Does it really make sense to be blowing this money when people are desperate for money both here and in Haiti? Somehow, this seems just wrong to me on so many levels.

Are you serious? Did you even watch the show? He said it wasn't real, none of those segments were real. I highly doubt NBC didn't know about the Beatles song, the Led Zep ones and the Rolling Stones being used on his show. The show isn't live, if NBC wanted to cut those segments out, they would have. But they've already screwed him so they just let him have his fun 'revenge'.

People yelling to high heaven about Haiti, how much have you donated? Me, I donated, but I don't need to tell everyone to. If you did donate, you're a kind hearted person, if you don't, well…don't yell about having no help if god forbid something like that earthquake happens to you or anyone you know.

Commenting about Haiti on an entertainment post…you just want to take the moral highground and guess what…NONE OF THOSE $1.8M, $4.5M, $65M segments were real or paid for. The Bugatti was loaned, the Picasso wasn't real neither was the Smithsonian dinosaur. Had you watched, you'd have known instead of being the first in line to condemn something that never happened.

Right…to say what I wanted to say on this post, NBC are idiots. Leno will tank, because he hasn't won any new fans over the last week and Letterman will laugh. Dave is always the winner.

    20

In this economy, that is absolutely DISGRACEFUL!!!!!!!

  21. 21

Blowing their cash is brilliant. Its not his money…and nothing hurts those executives more than watching cash go away. Who cares what the exact cost was?? If I was him I would have had beatles & Stones playing on a loop through the whole show…on kazoos…

  22. 22

Who the eff came up with the whole "Coco" crap? Coco is Koonye's bitch, not Conan, please!!!!!!!!

  23. 23

I don't think it's silly or funny. Throwing all that money around kinda makes me sick.

  24. 24

Gotta say someone at NBC had to approve it, not Conan. It's funny when people actually think that he broke NBC's bank without them knowing it. They had to know it. It's not one of these things where you are billed later. LOL. That was part of the joke.

  25. 25

I so don't see the humor in this. He should be ashamed. Seriously, in this economy, to spend someone else's money, even a networks? It's gross. Even if it's only a few thousand dollars.

  26. 26

Very nice CoCo! When NBC is cutting jobs of average people and you are walking around with millions, you pull this crap. NBC will not suffer, those who work the jobs and need them at NBC will suffer.

  27. 27

If you actually watched the show you'd see that Conan already told everyone that he was joking about all the high priced bits. He directly talked about all the outrage and how silly he thought it was because he was only joking.

  28. 28

ALL OF THIS IS TRUE. On the Today show they confirmed Conan's asshole, selfish behavior of spending money like crazy to stick it to NBC. . He is an asshole. His rating sucked and he is not funny. To act like a childish ass baby when he is getting tonsw to retire is so ridiculous. Many get NOTIHNG for having their shows cancelled, he got so much and still acts like an ass.

  29. 29

Re: psu12616 – Conan was doing damage control because he showed he is a jerk child. He did cost the network a lot of money to be vengeful, But those that will suffer are the little people. He is a jerk.

  30. 30

NBC should refuse to pay for his unclassy moves.

  31. 31

O'Brien has said this is a joke and obviously he would know… and as a joke, it's sophomoric and bland — and example of why he tanked as tonight show host.
    .
He went after Jay's job by threatening to go to another network, in 2004. Because of that Jay got booted lasy May while he had stellar ratings. NBC never should have bent to O'Brien's demands in 2004. What happened to O'Brien is karma… now he will move on and thrive somewhere — hopefully without going after the "older guy's" job.

  32. 32

When is he going to go away? I am so tired of hearing about him and his little pity party.

  33. 33

what a waste of money. as if there are no more important things to do.

  34. 34

The 60s TV show LAUGH IN had a family of redheads who were ditzy fools…that's Conan today… Poor baby gets all that cash and still whines? Get outta here!
The people who like him are even more sad than he is, and that's saying alot!

  35. 35

    Conan rules.
All of you saying money should go to Haiti instead, do you really think nbc would take any extra funds from the tonight show and give them to any cause? LOL….ok. The heads of nbc are assholes that don't care about the jobs being lost here, they don't give a f*** about anyone.

  36. 36

Perezzie, I hate to break it to you, but NBC will finesse it to deduct Conan's exit costs out of his settlement SOMEHOW. The networks always get theirs at the end and Coco wasn't smart doing all that cash register ringing at the end. Mark my words…you will hear about it…Conan gets billed!

  37. 37

Coco is nothing but a Brat. I can't see anyone hiring this nutbar, Just go away

  38. 38

Why wouldn't he use their money for something worthwhile…. like making a donation on NBC's behalf for Haiti or toward healthcare and education in America or some orphan fund?? What a waste of money and a complete disregard of what's going on in the world.

  39. 39

Anyone who has a negative opinion about a person based on what they read on a gossip website is an idiot.

  40. 40
