"It's not an Oliver Stone style bludgeon-you-over-the-head political film, but it does have a political subtext. I am a tree hugger."

HA! Way to delude yourself James Cameron. If that's not a blungeon you over the head political message movie, then I don't know what is. I still love it though…

    2. 2

Why does he always talk like an ass?

    3. 3

Until people can control their population growth, and have fewer kids and take better care of them, I fear we humans and the environment are all screwed.

We are breeding ourselves into oblivion!

    4. 4

      Yeah!!!

    5. 5

      he's a hypocrite.

    6. 6

he should PUBLICLY apologize for the way he treated Rod Steiger on the red carpet. Cameron is a sub-human. A DOUCHE and he only cares about himself.

    7. 7

KING ASS SHAT! DONT BELIEVE ANYTHING THIS IDIOT SAYS… ONLY TO SAVE HIS PR IMAGE SINCE HIS RUN IN WITH PROFESSIONAL AUTOGRAPH SEEKER.

    8. 8

hahah. I saw this in Imax 3d and loved it… and i'm usually an indie film person. I kinda hated james cameron before this. but i'm totally down with Avatar. It definitely has a heavy anti-war message, but you can't help but be moved by it.
Obama needs to watch this shit and stop fucking with the middle east.
afghans, Iraqis, Pakistanis, and Iranians should be set free from our tyranny.
      NO MORE WAR!

So we can add "subtext" to the list of things James Cameron doesn't understand. Like realistic dialogue. And that audiences don't need to be TOLD about what they just SAW.

    10. 10

      Tree huggers unite! oxox

    11. 11

      lameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! :( [[booo]]

    12. 12

Yea, that was the only thing I didn't like about Avatar. It was obvious he was trying to push some sort of political message.

    13. 13

Too bad, Avatar could have been an even better movie if he didn't push his liberal doucheyness on us!

    14. 14

he's a fucking idiot. Avatar is Fern gully meets Dances with Wolves. A white man's burden tale redeaux with blue natives.

    15. 15

      Well that was obvious

    16. 16

Right.. What do you think the carbon footprint of that movie was? Way to save the earth, Cameron.

    17. 17

wouldnt mind being a Sam hugger

    18. 18

What he really means is…I stole the idea from the tree huggers that made "FernGully: The Last Rainforrest".

Ok, this film uses "political subtext" just as much as it references Pocahontas and the history of the Native Americans. Which means it hass a "bludgeon-you-over-the-head" political subtext… that has no original story whatsoever. The only reason this film is successful is because it's in 3D…. oh, and maybe the overly heavy emotional cues.
That said, I loved this movie… and I hated myself for it. Cameron basically took the history of the Native Americans, moved it to another planet, and gave the Natives a way to fight back. Oh, and made them blue. He also made the Native's spirituality become a true religion (their goddess/Mother, Pandora, aka Earth, is truly alive)… just like Orson Scott Card did in the Alvin Maker series.

      BS

    21. 21

In defence of Oliver Stone, sometimes the public needs a good mental bludgeoning.

    22. 22

Now *that's* a better picture of Sam Worthington…
