"Did you know that 70% of people who need a bone marrow transplant won't find a match within their own family and must rely on the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry to find a matching donor?
Did you know that it costs money to join the National Marrow Registry? It costs approximately $52 per person to pay for tissue typing fees to get added to the Registry!
Did you know that there is a critical shortage of minority donors on the National Marrow Registry?"

My husband was diagnoised with Leukemia 2 years ago and needed a bone marrow transplant. Neither of his brothers were a match so they looked into the bone marrow registry and thankfully found a donor for him all the way over in rural england! There are not enough people on the registry…It's so easy to get put on all you have to do is get swabbed in the mouth!!! Please help save a life
My Fiancée served in the Navy for 8 yrs & in 06 she gave her swab, in 09 they sent her a letter in the mail saying she may be a possible match for someone who needs bone marrow, the next week we were in getting blood taken to send it to DC & see if shes a match, hopefully she is so she can try to save someone…
I had leukemia when I was 7, I found a donor pretty fast, and within a year I was healthy. AB- is my bloodtype and it was hard at first but word got out and I was helped.
I just did this. I have a childhood friend who has a 12 year old son fighting Leukemia. I registered on the bone marrow registry. I am praying daily for someone to be a match for this little boy. Please people go out and do this. Its so easy, they just swab your cheeks to test you.

I have a question: Being a gay man I am banned from donating blood. Am I likewise denied the ability to donate bone marrow? Does anyone know the answer to that?
14-year-old Patrick Pedraja pictured above, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 10. In 2007, at age 11, Patrick and his family started Driving For Donors and traveled around the country in a special “Donormobile” with the mission of signing people up for the National Marrow Registry to help find bone marrow matches for people in need of a transplant. They have added over 22,000 donors to the registry and saved more than 24 people’s lives with matches!
Patrick & Driving for Donors is the benefitting charity for the 2010 Sub City Take Action Tour, presented by Hot Topic. The annual nationwide charity tour, now in its ninth year, raises funds and awareness for youth involvement in charitable action. 10% of the cost of each ticket sold is donated to further Patrick's mission making each person attending the Take Action Tour an active participant in making the world a better place. Take Action is offering fans an opportunity to personally help save a life with onsite registration for the National Marrow Registry available at every tour stop.

I just joined the registry two weeks ago (as a donor) and it didn't cost me anything? Are you saying you have to pay to be added as a recipient?
I have been on the registry since 2004 and have never been contacted. In Colorado, whites have to pay to get on the registry. Minorities can join for free because the National Bone Marrow Registry is seriously lacking minorities on the list.
@Buddhascott- Sexuality is not a factor in Bone marrow registry. There are medical guidlines though.
