Brittany Murphy's Husband To Sue Warner Brothers For Wrongful Death!!
Crazy. So, so sad, and crazy.
Simon Monjack, husband of Brittany Murphy, is planning on suing Warner Brothers for wrongful death of the 32 year old actress.
According to Monjack and Brittany's mother, Sharon, Brittany's unexpected heart attack in December was caused by the stress of Warner Brothers having cancelled her contract. Murphy had begun production on a sequel to Happy Feet when she was let go.
In a recent interview, Monjack goes into the details surrounding what happened the morning of Brittany's death and disputes what he claims are rumors and falsities about his character.
On Monjack showing up drunk on set and getting Murphy fired from The Caller:
“The reports about the Puerto Rican set are fantasy. I was never, ever drunk there. What I did do was demand they follow union rules and after she had worked 12 hour days, six days a week, that she get the breaks she was entitled to. I was ‘difficult’ because I was the enforcer to protect Brittany. She was far too nice to stand up to directors and producers who wanted her to work to exhaustion. Warner Brothers relied on conjecture and hearsay about the Puerto Rico film for why they cancelled Brittany’s role in Happy Feet. You’re disposable as an actress or actor.”
The morning she passed away:
"I came running in. I immediately started doing CPR. I felt a tiny heart beat. I was pushing with the heel of my hand. And every second I pushed, I felt my hand become stronger and her heart weaker. And then it stopped. And I kept pushing. She died in my arms. I knew she was dead. I hope no one ever has to go through what I did, to lose the love of your life in front of your eyes. I was out of it? You bet. It was all a surreal nightmare.”
On not wanting an autopsy:
“It was nothing sinister at all. I just looked at Sharon’s grieving face, and there was no way either of us wanted them to cut open this perfect 32-year-old girl. It wasn’t about hiding anything; it was just the horror of thinking of what they would do to her body.”
On claims that he used her for her money:
“When Brittany died she had 60 pieces of unworn Louis Vuitton. The dog had Louis Vuitton. This was all me. We kept our money separate. When I took Brittany out shopping, I paid for everything.”
On claims that he ruined her career:
“Brittany’s films had grossed $100 million before she met me. But her career had ended before then. She had gone through four or five agents by the time we met, and she had made a lot of indies that went straight to video. She hadn’t earned millions in years, and when we met she was struggling financially, from a series of bad investments. She trusted some people who she shouldn’t have. There are people in Hollywood living off of young successful boys and girls and getting them to invest in things they shouldn’t.”
That Murphy was abusing substances:
“In all the time I’ve known her, she has never, and I repeat NEVER, done drugs. Not a line of cocaine, not a hit from a joint, nothing. She was anti-drugs. There are no drugs involved. If any were, I would not be on the phone with you. The drug rumors made her lose roles, I’m sure. All she wanted to do was to make movies. She was waiting for the role that would revive her career, waiting for the call from Penny Marshall or Guy Fleder, people she had worked with before, that they might remember how talented an actress she was and call with a new magical role. There’s always some new girl getting off a bus. In Hollywood, girls like Brittany are disposable.”
Murphy's mother goes on to say,
"I loved my daughter more than life itself. Simon was her soul mate, the love of her life. They don’t understand that in Hollywood because it was something real.”
Wow. This is a rare occasion where we don't know what to think.
Regardless, the details surrounding Murphy's death are becoming more and more tragic, and we don't think filing a lawsuit against a studio as MASSIVE as Warner Brothers is going to help anyone come to terms with this unbelievable loss.

I've said before and I'll say again, I've met and spoken to Simon Monjack twice before and he was not only incredibly nice but he also spoke very, very sweetly of Brittany. He took the time to casually talk to me and I'm just a nobody assistant. That is saying a lot.
The man lost the love of his life. Give the guy a break. I used to believe everything I read until I actually met him. I feel sincerely sorry for him. I don't believe he deserve all the bad press he gets.

I think he's sad and he's hurting and he's lashing out. All the speculation about her drug use is just that SPECULATION. We should all wait for the toxicology reports before coming to any conclusions.

i really liked brittany murphy but i think he's insane if he thinks he has a case against the studio. she had been in the business long enough to understand that it's a heartless, cold, cruel place. rejection is served up by the minute. warner bros is not responsible for her death.

I'm sorry this guy is so full of shit, besides the test results aren't back from an autopsy, which he didn't want in the first place, and now he is gonna sue, hah! he has an incredibly shady look to him and, by looking at the two of them you can just tell drugs were involved. Doesn't have to be illegal drugs, they're are plenty of legal ones that do the trick.
I must say it is unfair how you keep implying there might be something shady behind the motives of her husband. Dont you see how closeknit a family they were, her mother loves him which is not very often the case in families and there are no circumstances that would actually point to something shady. I think people thought Brittany was on drugs because she was a quirky actress which made her COOL. She was so full of life - not like a Kristen Stewart who looks like she needs to be propped up all the time. SHE is the one smoking pot. I feel for Simon and Sharon. I'm glad they have each other to cry to.
His lawsuit for wrongful death is just as bad as DJAMs families. Him suing Warmer Bros. is NOT going to bring "the love of his life" back.

The truth is I would like to believe she was on tons of drugs. It's really scary to think a 32 can die so horribly from a natural heart attack. I do feel very bad for him, even if pills were involved, he learned a sad and permanent lesson.

I believe Simon! The torment this man and his mother-in-law have suffered as a result of this media storm is disgusting. They are so grief stricken! My heart aches for both of them.
I believe him, I think they were truly in love and it was a tragic event that took her life away. She was/is a beautiful girl and he was taking care of her. I believe them. She was still that bigger, awkward girl from the Clueless days. Just bc she lost a lot of weight and had a major make over doesn't mean she changed as a person. He IS her type. Why don't people get that? She wasn't a drug abuser either. One of those drugs she took regularly, Topamax, makes you lose weight. I'm on it for migraines and lost 10 lbs in the first month of taking it myself. My doctor told me it's normal bc you have food aversions; so lay off her already…

Warner Brothers' culpability is questionable. The risk for a slander suit is large.
Hmm… one generally doesn't perform CPR when there is a heartbeat. He might have an issue here, in that, you can cause the heart to stop if you do CPR while the heart is still beating. If he was smart, he would keep his mouth shut and wait until the lawsuit is heard before making statements… Interesting…
I agree with other comments, suing WB isn't going to bring her back, or change anything. I think he should wait until the toxicology comes back (maybe it has and it just hasn't been released yet?) before suing anyone. I am sure he's hurting, and I'm sure he's very confused as this was so sudden and unexpected, but he needs to wait before making very big decisions such as this one. I feel very horrible for him and Sharon, and as others have said, I am so glad they have each other. No one needs to be alone going through such a loss like this one.

I question his character when we have all seen clips of a clearly out of it Brittany, yet he denies she abused drugs. She may not have abused street drugs but pharmaceuticals are drugs and well and not exempt from abuse.
I dont know whether he was shady or not but she was a big girl and no one held a gun to her head to marry him, so I dont think her death should be blamed on him. I think HollyWeird needs to be sent a message. Someone needs to be the voice of reality and everything Mr. Monjack stated is the gospel truth: the industry views today's actors and actresses as interchangable to fit a 'template' and that template is geared by age - they are looking to wring every ounce of life's blood out of them, will discard them and move on to the next flavor of the minute. They do not build talent for the long haul. It's not like the golden days of Hollywood. EVERYONE is a disposable commodity in Hollywood - and your shelf life is very, very short. Age is your enemy.

i'm a huge fan Perez but you're blog was partly to blame on the hearsay that Warner Brothers fired her for. I remember reading the articles about her being fired & you should've known better I understand that its your "job" to report what you hear but your harshness has consequences. i would like to believe him, however, for months before her death she looked completely strung out - she had the classic dark circles around her eyes, the extreme thinness and then some. how her mother can claim this old man and brittany were "soul-mates" is pretty surprising to me. as a woman of a lot of experience that simply doesn't jive. her mother having a crush on him and selling out her daughter makes a lot more sense to me. i am america's number one cynic - so that just my humble opinion.
