Barack Supports Gays In The Military

In his State of the Union last night, President Barack Obama took a very important step in the right direction, if you ask us.

Take a look at our President announcing his plans to repeal the law that denies gays the right to serve in the military! (above)

Maybe you can take a stab at gay marriage next, Barack?

I support gays everyday I come on this blog. lolz

    2. 2

i don't think it should make a shit whether you're gay or straight when it comes to being in the army…as with everything, it's not about sexuality, or it shouldn't be anyhow…but whatever..

    3. 3

hahah those guys in front look pissed!lmao

    4. 4

One step at a time Perez, one step at a time.

    5. 5

      :D FABULOUS

    6. 6

      On a side note.

Do you think any of these 'Celebs' that are pro NOH8 really give a shit about any of it?

Mostly probably don't. They just want publicity and obviously enough you will post them on here… Like the Big Ass Kardashians…do you think they really give a fuck? Come on man get real.

    7. 7

Yes Perez, I am sure everyone would agreee that gay marriage should be this man's top priority.*rolls eyes* But lusting after little boys will still be frowned upon..so you will be right back where you started.

this shouldn't be praise worthy..he is such a disappointment in this area. so upsetting.

Of course. Gays should have the right to go get killed in Afghanistan too. Equality for all!

    13. 13

He is just blownig a little smoke up your ass to get some gay voter turnout for his party this November, nothing more, nothing less. Don't get too excited. Almost everything he said last night was bullshit. You would have heard one hell of a different speech last night if they had not lost that Masachusettes seat last week. Brack is a one term President and the Dems are lsoing it all together.

    16. 16

Gay marriage is a state by state issue. Gays in the military isn't.

    17. 17

maybe you can let him focus on the economy, jobs, healthcare and two wars — let the states deal with marriage

      I do too!!
PLEASE JOIN THE ARMY, PEREZ!!! PLEASE!?!?!?!
      Oh…ok…NAVY!

    20. 20

I can't see it on my blueberry, but did you see the reaction of the guys in the military? Lol. I don't know if that was just their militant look or if they were angry. Maybe it was their 'let's not get too excited or they'll think I'm gay' look.

    21. 21

Just one more reason he's unfit to be president. Bringing our country to hell in a handbasket

    22. 22

Last time I checked gays have been serving in the military for a very long time. What you want is for gays to be able to discuss sexuality in the military. Why does anyone have to discuss their sexuality?

    23. 23

One more empty act in his bid to try to regain some ground on his "in the toilet" ratings polls. Good luck with that.

    24. 24

I dont like the fact that he says now its ok for gays to fight this war for them. Yet they still dont have basic human rights like……marriage which is a personal and private choice between 2 people. They are so full of shit. The US all they want to do is use and treat their ppl like crap.

    25. 25

      Go Barak! He is awesome:)

    26. 26

The President is a Constiutional scholar who believes that gay rights is a state issue, and that according to the Constitution that's the law.

    27. 27

It so funny. You Perez trying to be a ass with your question and the thing is no other president would even touch the issue where the hell was you then, in the closet? If McCain would have won best believe gays in the military would never come up and for get about gay marriage because it would never be on the table.

    28. 28

Perez, you're so gullible. As usual, this is all talk for Obama. He said the same thing last year about DADT. And, don't you remember his promise to close Guantanamo Bay in a year (he made that promise a year ago to keep the radical left happy). Well, it didn't happen last year, it ain't happening this year, and it may not happen next year either - just like repealing DADT. Obama says what he has to say to make people like you happy and continue to vote Democrats. Same with all these new programs for student loans, which he knows will not pass - he just wants to get young people out to vote in November.

    29. 29

Re: NinaBx – Gays have basic human rights in the U.S.; let's not be over-the-top. The only thing gays don't have is marriage; they have all other "basic human rights" accorded any citizen per the Constitution. If you want to address REAL "basic human rights" issues, let's talk about Darfur and other areas in the world that have REAL problems.

    31. 31

Why not? The military is really stuck up with people. Who knows who would be a good soldier? My brother had diabetes and all his life he wanted to be in the army. They don't want him. None of us can understand why he can't do some support kind of work just like he does at his regular job every day without a problem. They lost a really good guy when they didn't take him. Is there any reason on earth why a gay person won't be a good soldier? Unless it's Perez I don't think so.

I agree with NINABX…i don't like the fact that he says it ok fo rgays to fight, they have always been able to fight. you are though wrong on 2 points.. 1. marriage isn't a 'basic human right' its a privilege and 2. marriage isn't a 'personal and private choice between two people' its a personal and private choice between a man and a woman in which every person is in fact entitled to.

Since this clown is circling the bowl anyway, he figures why not?? But, it will be easily reversed once we get a real President. The Libs are getting desparate and are trying to run thru everything they can think of. But, it will all be fixed again in about 3 years.

    36. 36

Re: trinigirl123 – i think they were pissed b/c they had previously stood and clapped over a statement

    37. 37

I do support gays, but, as a military wife I don't think that if someone is gay it should be openly in the military. Now, before everyone jumps down my throat let me explain why. 1st of all, your sexuality is your business. I mean, I don't need to explain mine - so why should anyone else? I mean that with love, not bitchiness. 2ndly. Think of MOST (not all mind you, my husband is a big supporter of gays.) of the people who join the military. I'm not going to lie that they're mostly ignorant neanderthals who can only shoot a gun. If you were to announce to them that you were gay, you'd get the shit beat out of you bc they JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND. They don't. And. When you're out deployed and in a foxhole and you lack that understanding - do you really think they're going to have your back? No. They're going to be worrying if you're going to do something completely juvenile and outlandish. I have no problem with gays in the military but for their safety I really think that "don't ask, don't tell" is the best bet.

    38. 38

yes perez we get it you're gay and proud. and yes we all understand that gay marriage has to become legal so that every human being can have equal rights which is the right and moral thing to do! BUT, Obama has only been the leader of america for a year, an issue as 'sensitive' (rightly or not) will take more than that to get passed when there are so many silly people out there who think its wrong. Dont get me wrong im totally behing you and the fight for gay marriage….but you gotta take it one step at a time. The time will come! there are things such as the economy and unemployment that affect a larger population of america that need to be sorted out!

    39. 39

He already promised to repeal it in his first year. Why believe him now?

    40. 40

What does being gay have to do with serving in the army?
I am surprised that it is still an issue

    41. 41

So as a former service man, here is my take. During basic training you are all housed together. We went out every day for some sort of physical training. When you come back, you are all lined up to shower. You have nothing on but a smile standing in line waiting to shower with 6 other men. Why should a straight person be put in that situation? Why can't I shower with women then? Some may say, "that gay guy might not find you attractive" so there is nothing to worry about. Well, I may not find all women attractive either, so whats the difference?
One of my best friends in the military was gay. He didn't discuss it with people, so why do things have to change? It's nobody's business. Having people be able to be openly gay would be a problem.

    42. 42

It's called, diversion. His healthcare crap is going badly and so is the economy. So he has to find something promising to wave around that will make his supporters happy and feel victorious. It's just talk until there's actually something done. Just talk and promises and you seem to fall for that every time.

    43. 43

Intelligent people know that Messiah Dumbama lied on the podium last night, Messiah has no interest in gays and lesbians nor do the Dumbocrats. They have stabbed us in the back for decades. The Democratic party has become the party of liars.

    44. 44

blah blah who cares, don't get your hopes up queers, this guy does the complete opposite of everything he says.

    45. 45

Good for him… This is why I liked him sooo much in the first place! :)
one small step at a time!

    46. 46

Teddy and you can sign up now, girl!

    47. 47

What this means for you Perez, in the words of Metallica:

      "Back to the front!"

    48. 48

Oh perez. There is no law that states gays cant serve in the military. There is the dont ask dont tell policy. Good try though! There are plenty of gay men and women in the military protecting our country!!!!

    49. 49

Sorry, but I am guessing this is all he will do in the name of "Gay rights"…just to say he did something. I think the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy is a good one. It is not denying Gay people from serving at all! I don't think a person's sexual orientation is something that needs to be discussed.

    50. 50

Yeah right, and he is closing Gitmo as well! Ha.

    51. 51

Re: buck – Maybe you are a closeted homosexual and that's why you care whether gays get married or not? Or just a insufferable busy-body? I don't CARE because I'm not GAY! So I waste not a second thinking about it. If gay people want to get married let them! Why do you CARE??? It causes no change in my life one way or the other. How does it change YOUR life? If marriage is such a privilage then why aren't you bitching about the farce that is most of the celebrity marriages "between a man and a woman?" That is way more insulting to the contitution of marriage than 2 gay people who love each other.

    52. 52

Yeah! Everybody deserves the right to be suffer and die in a futile war effort.

    53. 53

Re: buck – Oh, and I'm not even a Democrat so still die.

    54. 54

I think this is one of the stupidest things he could do for the gay people. I don't have a problem with the gays but do you realize how much scrutiny they are going to get being in the military and being gay?! I know it's not right, but it's the facts.

    55. kjen says – reply to this

      55

Obama isn't going to do crap for the gays. Wait and see. He threw that in there so you would do what you are doing, which is giving him praise for something he is NOT going to do.

    56. 56

Don't Ask, Don't Tell has to be the most nonsensical rule yet. I have yet to hear one convincing argument as to how or why it makes any sense, not that it's effective in the first place since gays and lesbians already serve in the military in large numbers (far larger than their superiors are willing to admit). When a soldier is on the battlefield, do you think they are going to give a flying hoot about someone's sexuality when they are being shot at? I have a dear friend (and war hero) who has spent his last several years in Iraq & Afghanistan. He is a married man with several children who insists no one in his regiment cares about this and agrees just as much as I do that this whole rule is irrelevant. Denying human beings who want to fight for this country that right is criminal, and our government should be ashamed that this discrimination is written into law.

    57. 57

      Im in the military.
and I support gays and there right to love or whatever but when your training and doing what you civilians don't do, homosexuality is a issue, a distraction and also being in dirty field ops,…why need two dirty men or women going at it?

    58. 58

Unfortunately President Obama makes false promises. His campaign promise was to allow for gays to marry, and many (including myself) would like for this to happen but personally he is back pedaling. Now only out and proud in the military? Its been a little over a year since he was sworn into office and the only thing being accomplished is bribing Senators to pass a health care bill that was written behind closed doors and just recently released the details of this reform after the sixty percent majority was reached.. Sketchy much? why do you need to bribe people with millions we don't have to get them to ok this bill? Maybe cuz it sucks?

    59. 59

Re: Laury – Haha. That made my day, gracias!

    60. 60

      More than 10% unemployment.
The largest amount of debt in the history of USA.
Bribes to Senators and to Unions to pass an unpopular Health Reform.
The most polarized president in the history of this country.

But now he wants gay in the military that that make this asshole of a president a hero? If you gays want to be respected be selected in who do you endorse.
      Just an advice.

    61. 61

i SUPPORT GAYS IN THE MILITARY!!! BUT THERE IS A REASON WHY THE DONT ASK DONT TELL LAW WAS ESTABLISHED. ITS FOR THE PROTECTION OF GAYS IN THE MILITARY. IF SOME SOLIDERS NEW YOUR SEXUALTIY AND DIND'T AGREE WITH IT IT COULD CAUSE HATE CRIME AND HINDER THE ABILITY TO GIVE 100% FOR THAT PERSON. ALL IM SAYING IS IF SOME PEOPLE DONT LIKE GAYS IN THE MILITARY THANIT MIGHT HINDER THEM FROM HAVING THER BACK UNDER FIRE OR IN A LIFE THRETENEING SITUATION.

    62. 62

I enjoyed his speech. I am hopeful that we can get some jobs rolling out for us, looking for one sucks. I thought the Republicans showed their true colors last night cheering when he talked about more nuclear power and off shore oil drilling. Here we all are starving to death wishing for health insurance, and the rich man's party does what they do best, cheer for more money (that they will get voting for the corporations that bought them.) Vote those Republicans out this year, PLEASE!

    63. 63

Re: Trailer Trash says … – The military didnt deny your brother because he wouldnt make a good soldier. They denied him because of his health. It increased his chance of recieving a fatal wound. Diabetics dont heal as well as healthy individuals therefore a minor gunshot wound that anyone else would live through could mean death for him because of gangreen and decreased healing capability. If you ask me, they were looking out for your brother, not stomping on his dreams.

And as for gays in the military; Gays are currently in the military…its just a dont ask dont tell policy, which is the way they should keep it. When you are in close quarters with a hundred other males or more and you openly admit you are gay, that would put you higher at risk of gay bashing. Yes I know thats completely wrong, but a lot of straight men arent comfortable around gay men and just because the president says they should be, wont change it.

    64. 64

yea. the only step int he right direction he had made…
i'm not impressed by what he is currently doing and i'm sorry but gay's in the military is the LEAST of our worries right now. i am all for gay rights but WE HAVE TO FIX EVERYTHING ELSE BEFORE THOSE TYPES OF CHANGES ARE DELT WITH!

    65. 65

Obama doesn't give a rat's ass about gays in the military. He only said that last night to throw a bone to the liberals in the audience since he was busy throwing bones to the conservatives, too…like all of a sudden he's pro nuclear power plants, etc.
He's an idiot and is just trying to save his ass and be everything to everybody. The result? He's a total LOSER!!!

    66. 66

None of us are free u til we are all free…good for Obama! Make it sooner rather than later…ignore the haters.

    67. 67

i'm around military lifestyle 24/7. my friends and i support gays. but there is a fellow who just ACTS gay not on purpose, that's just the type of person he is. he is married and 100% heterosexual. he gets harassed with gay jokes every day in Iraq. it got to the point where a line needed to be drawn and NCOs were about to get a formal complaint on their ass for it. so personally, i think Dont Ask Dont Tell should be in effect and Obama has no idea what he will do to the gay community by letting them serve openly. think of all the harassments in schools. and even what i just said about non gay man being harassed. it's just not safe. try serving your country in border patrol or a police job. Good luck serving in the military.

    68. 68

I applaud mr Obama! It is insane that the US call itself the nation of the free, while they are discriminating against 10% of its citizens. I hope that one day, America can really be the country of the free. The dont ask dont tell-law is not only a disgrace, its even unconstitutional (and i know how you americans jerk off of the constitution). So, dear Americans, start being free, legalize gay-marriage!

    69. 69

Re: kfal1313 – #63 comment. You mis-read my comment. I was questioning why he couldn't be in a support position. Theres plenty of them apart from combat. I mean obviously he couldn't have been a combat soldier but he would have been totally awesome at computers or the tons of office work that needs done in the army or other services. It was all about serving his country and supporting his fellow soldiers but they wouldn't even put him stateside at a desk. Their loss but his too because all he ever wanted to be was in the army.

    70. 70

Re: Frag The Paps – perhaps as someone who was in the military you might be a little more keen on what DADT entails. if one of your superior officers happened to be at say, the local applebees and saw one of your fellow soldiers kissing his boyfriend then DADT comes into play. he's not parading his sexuality around base or in the foxhole like people seem to think gay people want to do with the repeal of DADT, but he could be kicked out of the military for being himself. .

    71. 71

Re: Frag The Paps – this is beyond the whole feeling uncomfortable around gays bullshit that always comes up from straight guys. if you are grown up enough to risk your life for our country, you should be grown up enough to know that just because someone in the military is gay, they won't be throwing it in your face all the time. do you think that some sassy queen is going to join the marines just because DADT is repealed? what is wrong with people? gay people in the military have to constantly be careful about letting people see who they are because of the fear that they might lose the opportunity to do what they love and I don't see why that is so complicated for people. i mean what about all these backwoods white guys who join the military only to have to fight alongside a black guy or a hispanic guy? should we care because that might make them uncomfortable? fine if people want to shove their bibles down our throats and be against gay marriage, but hey if you don't value gays as your equals then why wouldn't you want gays out risking their lives in battle? wouldn't that make you feel better to have one less gay person in this country? i bet it would

    72. 72

Re: Koco – For God sakes, get a life! We are ALL supposed to be treated equally, not just straight people! I feel sorry for your gay family members! They have to tell people they are related to YOU!

    86. 86

      I knew he was gay…

    87. 87

wow perez if this is what you think of as a major problem in our country than you seriously need to rethink what you are saying. Seriously with all the huge problems going on right now, the only one you seem to talk about is the 'gay' topic. This topic is on the bottom of the list and I think it is sad that this makes the top of your list (apparently our shitty presidents as well). What about the stupid ass health care he is trying to pass, and what about the fact that we are wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on our piece of shit congress people and the lack of money we are actually providing our dedicated soldiers? These people put their lives on the line for you every single day, and are extremely underpaid and have to pay for their groceries with food stamps while our congressmen do nothing and get paid thousands. Here you sit worried about gay rights while there are much more time worthy causes out there. get your priorities straight.

    88. 88

Get out there and do something valuable and meaningful for your country, Mario. You just sit on your fat ass and chew it up.
Get the fuck out if you don't like it.
AMERICA will be just fine without your ugly, sorry ass.
That goes for the rest of you U.S. haters, too.
It's not like you'd be a good soldier though…look at your arms! Could you even lift a rifle?

    89. 89

Re: snipnclip2 – wow, equal rights aren't important??!! we here in America are in a bigger mess than most of us thought if people like you are out there thinking that equal rights to all citizens of this country isn't important. i bet you would have said the same thing when black people and women weren't treated as equals…..great job, you are clearly a compassionate individual who is content to see certain groups of people continuing to be oppressed…..too bad you are alive now, you probably would have been much happier being alive a long time ago so you could own a slave or two….go fuck yourself you bigot

    90. 90

Wow, Perez, gays can absolutely serve in the military. The just have to adhere to the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which frankly I think is a good policy because it's mostly conservatives serving in the military, and they are not going to have a gay guy's back in the army.

    91. 91

Wake up, Perez! Take off your "Obama is a minority, therefore he MUST be unbiased" glasses for a moment. Obama could have done away with the "Don't ask, don't tell" by a simple executive decision a YEAR ago! He didn't. Instead he is passing the buck. Also, does ANYONE remember that he has succinctly stated that he is AGAINST gay marriage! Hello-o-o-o!!!

    92. 92

I support the gay and lesbian community. I believe they need equality. But, the only thing is that I was in the military for 15yrs. If you are found you are gay means gang rape.

    93. 93

      Re: kidneypie3
But, kidneypie, wouldn't the obvious solution to the problem you're talking about be to kick "ignorant neanderthals" who "beat the shit" out of their fellow soldiers out of the armed forces?
You're evaluating the problem from the position of: "What's the best thing we can do to ensure that violent, disruptive, disloyal soldiers who act out and break the law and compromise the safety of everyone in the unit are given top priority when it comes to any sort of debate like this? I know! Let's prohibit capable, hardworking, loyal, law-abiding soldiers from revealing their homosexuality in any way, even inadvertently. That way, the soldiers who are strongly inclined to beat the shit out of their fellow soldiers when one of them looks at them the wrong way will have fewer incentives to put their fists through people's faces. So they won't get in trouble as much. And their military careers won't be compromised in any way."
