Miami Children's Group Warn Of Pete Townsend
Protect Our Children, a South Florida based group that warns against sexual predators, is going after legendary rocker, Pete Townsend.
The Who frontman will arrive in Miami next week for his halftime performance at the Super Bowl and the group is trying to warn residents by passing out bilingual postcards around the city.
"Townshend is a British citizen who was registered as a sex offender in his home country in 2003, for an offense related to child pornography," the post card reads. "This is a community notification distributed in the interest of public safety."
The singer has never been arrested on any related charges, but he was "cautioned" by authorities after he visited a site that advertised child pornography.
Protect Our Children spent the last couple month pleading with the NFL to pull the plug on his appearance and even went so far as to ask U.S. Immigration to stop him from entering the country, yet neither organization agreed.

Heck, for all we know, his visit to this site (while he was in the UK), could have been accidental. I agree, he should sue them for defamation of character.

The police warning was to tell him that curiousity and research are not an excuse for doing so. I don't think it's necessary for fliers to be passed out in Miami but I've never bought into his "research" excuse for even a second.

I remember this case. He was identified as the owner of a VISA card making purchases of child pornography online. This was not a case of 'accidentally' hitting a button and ending up on the wrong porn site. It was proven he visited the site (his computer was confiscated by the police) and he made a purchase using his personal VISA card. He was in fact charged, but I didn't hear if the charges were stayed or he was indicted. Perv.

pete townshend has a long history of giving to and serving as an advocate for charities associated with troubled youngsters. he stumbled into this PR mess when, after watching a documentary about orphaned russian boys sold into the sex trade, he and his son went online to search for charities by which to support the cause. after googling something like russian orphanage boys, he was shocked at what emerged, and began a personal crusade to raise awareness about the cause, including publishing an essay, "a different bomb," on his website. when rumors spread that a legendary rock star was to be arrested for accessing child porn, he contacted the police, and told them what he was up to. his home was searched and a dozen or so computers were confiscated, but not a single child porn image, downloaded or otherwise produced, could be found, and nobody has ever come forward to allege abuse.
he was not charged, although he was formally "cautioned" and put on that list for something like 5 years, because he committed the crime of "supporting" this egregious industry by forking over dollars to access the site (that's why the flyer says, "inciting others to distribute child pornography"). it later turned out the website to which he submitted his credit card (and as a result came up on the list of child porn viewers) was a porn site like any other, except that it did have portals to child porn–whether he visited those nobody actually knows, and it has resulted in many lawsuits by other individuals ruined by these allegations (& possibly some who were guilty, who knows). it would be silly to think that the Super Bowl people failed to do their research before asking this guy to play the half-time show when people are still freaked out about nipple slips. please.

Given his hysterical claims towards Mr. Townshend, it really does beg the question, why aren’t these "groups" going after real sexual predators who are killing children every single week? How is going after Townshend, who was never criminally charged, has had zero criminal infractions since and who’’s case was resolved over seven years ago, going to save a child who is on the streets and/or at risk right now?
Easy answer: it's not. Sadly a child in immediate danger simply is not as attention getting as going after a rock star and the NFL. (Not quite how one envisions a children's rights advocate…)

14 computers were confiscated from TOWNSHEND's home and offices…there were NO downloaded images found. Scotland Yard found no reason to prosecute Mr. Townshend. Pete Townshend admitted to accessing a website..he paid a $5 fee to get in. This action was to prove how EASY it is to access such horrible material. Why don't you question those credit card companies????? Townshend DID notify autorities (this is on record), and they did NOTHING. Did you ever hear of the concept of VIGILANTISM??! Pete Towshend actually IS the The Who's frontman. Roger Daltrey is the singer, but Townshend has always been considered the Frontman since he wrote almost every song they ever played.
