PETA Goes After Punxsutawney Phil!!!!
We appreciate what they're trying to do, but this is a little MUCH, don't U think????
Apparently PETA has decided that the most badass groundhog on the planet, Punxsutawney Phil, is not treated with the respect he deserves, and instead of doing the job himself, they want a robot groundhog to let the world know if springtime is on its way or not!!
Gemma Vaughn, an Animals in Entertainment Specialist for the organization looking out for our animal friends, wrote in a statement,
“Make the compassionate decision to use an animatronic Phil and retire the live groundhogs who are used for Groundhog Day activities to a sanctuary. Tradition is no excuse for cruelty.”
Animatronic Phil? They might as well use one of the robot dinosaurs from Jurassic Park to do the job if tradition is so passé!
The Groundhog Club, which takes care of Phil, responded with,
“Phil is probably treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania. He’s got air conditioning in the summer, his pen is heated in winter … He has everything but a TV in there. What more do you want?”
HAHAHA. If that's truly the case, then we're gonna have to side with The Groundhog Club. Sounds like Punxsutawney Phil lives a pretty sweet animal life.

People were wild and partying at 5 in the morning in the freezing cold weather. The town has toned it down since then, but it is still one hell of a cool event.

Of course its not a huge issue and there are tons of horrible things that need to be talked about. Peta tends to do those issues because they get peoples attention I guess in hope people will explore more of their ideas. Even though this issue covers a fundamental belief of theirs I feel they always tend to piss people off instead of educate people.
I believe all wildlife and exotic animals should never be used in the entertainment industry or as pets. To say this animal is loved because it has ac and a tv is not loving it. Thats like me taking you from your house sticking you in a log to eat dirt and not allow you to do anything human. I think it should be a general idea and belief across the whole world. I think it is barbaric and of the old ages. Whether it be a squirrel or elephant those things are meant to be in the wild. If anything they should be used as educational ambassadors if they are injured or unable to return to the wild.
Even if you are a hunter you respect wildlife. No this groundhog is not a battle cry issue but a fundamental belief of respect. Which moves up to respect of all things. All wildlife has a purpose and not in a hippie way a real life way and taking them out of wildlife to entertain us is selfish there is no benifit but to just entertain us.
Enough with the PETA bashing. JESUS! Sure, sometimes they take things a bit far, or make poor decisions - but at the end of the day their sole focus is to better the lives of animals and I for one respect that. um dogs killing groundhogs is the owners fault because dogs are domestic and should be protected and watched over by humans. Not there to kill wildlife. Cats and dogs are an invasive species that we love more than wildlife. But letting them outside to kill wildlife is not loving them. And yes logically a groundhog would rather have one day outside where its stimulated and is doing what its been doing since it existed instead of kidnapping it and putting it in basically a cage for the groundhog to be in a constant state of fear because to him we are predators to him. A tv and ac is strange and insights fear, woods and no people does not.

many organizations that help abused animals have to eauthanise. many wildlife rehabilitations center have to euthanise. For so many you help so many you cannot. It is stopping their suffering. You don't let a hawk live who has no wings because you think its cruel to euthanise him. It is cruel to let him live. There is a ratio when it comes to things like that. educate yourself on that.

PETA, Punxsutawney Phil is treated like a king. He's living better than any animal out there. This groundhog is pampered, protected, and given more consideration than any of us humans. He has personal chefs, physicians, groomers, exercise trainers, habitat experts, animal psychiatrists, etc. Heck, animals should all be so lucky! Not every animal that you see is being abused. Please pick your battles. Focus on animals that are trully being abused, not an animal that is treated like a king.

I'm all for protecting the welfare of animals, but shouldn't PETA look into these things before shooting off at the mouth? They're giving true animal welfare groups a bad name because people assume they're all alike. PETA has good intentions, obviously, but they are a little overbearing at times. Jumping to conclusions is never good for any organization, it makes you look unprepared and ridiculous.

PETA needs to get a life. i am from punxsutawney and i can tell you that Phil has a better life than most animals. he is fed daily and has the greatest care than most pets. air in the summer, heat in the winter and a great home. if they want to go after someone go after that people who are beating animals to death or killing endangered animals.
