Avatar To Remain On Top After Seven Weeks!!

wenn2693909jb.jpg

We think it's safe to say that lightning, has indeed, struck twice!

James Cameron's CGI Ferngully Avatar has been in theaters now for seven weeks, and is still holding strong the #1 spot!

It's estimated at making $25 million this weekend, beating out Mel Gibson's Edge of Darkness and Veronica Mars's When In Rome.

Wow. James Cameron's usually humble ego must be getting inflated. His previous film, Titanic, was #1 for 15 weeks back in 97-98!!! And now this? Not too shabby.

Do U think Avatar has the lasting power to beat out its predecessor? Or will Titanic's heart still go on?

      "Veronica Mars's When in Rome"??????

You mean Kristen Bell, not a character she played before? Yea, that's what i thought

    2. 2

Honestly I think Valentine's Day is going to knock Avatar out of the number 1 spot. However Avatar is an awesome movie, but there are just to many stars in Valentine's day for that movie not to go straight to number 1. Think about it all those Taylor/Taylor fans will come out in full force. So Avatar will hold on for what another two weeks, so it will not bet Titanic's 15 weeks.

Avatar is AMAZING. Anyone who has not seen it, should.

    4. 4

Yeah especially for a film that you were certain was a huge waste of money and would fail you prove once again how you know nothing but to talk awfully about celebs and people who disagree with your views behind the safety of your laptop.

DUDE, IT'S NOT EVEN SUNDAY AND YOU ARE ALREADY CALLING AVATAR THE WINNER FOR THE WEEKEND? IT'S ONLY FRIDAY, ARE YOU NOSTRILDUMBASS? FAIL, FAILURE, FAILURE TO COMPUTE, FAIL FAIL AND MORE FAIL!!!!

how bout. "We may be blue, but we shit Green!"

    7. 7

      Avatar > Titanic

    8. 8

It wont beat titanic's run of 15 weeks but who cares? Its the biggest movie of all time. Amazing. Even with inflation taken into consideration it will romp home. Not bad for a movie u called a 'flop'. Off the mark on that one Perez

Avatar has already BEATEN titanic with $1,900,514,732 in sales.

      Re: Renee1234

There is no way them "Taylor/Taylor" fans can take down Avatar…NOT EVEN Twilight New Moon (One of the most anticipate movies of the year) scratch the surface of Avatar in ticket sales!

    11. 11

Let's not forget that you declared the film a failure when it came out…YOU WERE WRONG AGAIN.

    12. 12

Well you can't really say Avatar has already bet Titanic based on the amount of money Avatar has bought in, because I paid 6.50 to see Titanic in 98, and 13.00 for Avatar so that is almost double.

    13. 13

it will be number 1 until alice in wonderland hits the theaters if avatar is still in theaters by then

    14. 14

Loved Avatar.. WILL NEVER SEE A MOVIE WITH mel gibson IN IT THE BIGOTED PIECE OF SHIT.

when you take inflation into consideration, 'avatar' is actually #26 in box office sales of all time and 'titanic' is #6. 'gone with the wind' is #1.

Re: Renee1234 – lol that is exactly double.
i agree though.. you should adjust for inflation. when tickets start costing around $20 avatar will be knocked off the 'top spot' in no time.

yeam PErez, shows how much you know about movies….if i remember correctly, after the weekend tallies came back at 77 million, you said it was a HUGE dissapointment and FLOP. HA!!!! its at 1.9 BILLION and counting. Your so goddamn negative

    18. 18

avatar has already beat titanic, but i doubt itll beat its 15 week run.

    19. 19

Still waiting on your ass for an apology for calling the movie out that it sucked! Retract your rants, boy! :P

    20. 20

Yes, it has it all. Story, visuals. Now if Cameron doesn't do anything to screw it up a la King of the World, altho that didn't bother me cause I understood he was just echoing his character, Jack Dawson.

    21. 21

Stop being bitter. It's really pathetic.

    22. 22

hell yes! titanic has been my favorite movie since 1997, and so glad that now i have avatar to add to that! both incredible movies. cameron is genius!

    23. 23

Hells yeah for Avatar! I suggest Avatar fans visit www.Naviblue.com

    24. 24

it is an amazing movie. I'm so not surprised!

    25. 25

Am I only one who hated this movie? I'll give them credit for the special effects, but the plot and dialogue sucked! So cheesy! And WAY TOO LONG! WTF!

    26. 26

With inflation taken into account Avatar actually isn't even close to Titanic.

    27. 27

'Veronica Mars's When in Rome' Perez, WTF?! You do know her name's Kristen Bell right? And you might wanna stop sucking up to Avatar, cause everyone knows you were calling it a flop a few weeks ago..

    28. 28

i just saw AVATAR and it is the best movie ever! highly entertaining and makes us think of the world and how great it can be if we cut all this pollution crap, focus on the planet and go GREEN!

But are you really king of the world if fewer people saw your movie than, say, The Graduate?

Such is the perennial debate that stirs when a film ascends the historical box office charts. Unlike virtually every other form of entertainment, movies are measured by revenues instead of units sold.

By that metric, Avatar is rising fast. The film collected another $30 million this weekend, lifting its total to $594.5 million and bringing it within a hair's breadth of Titanic, which did $601 million in 1997.

But getting a consensus on the new titan of ticket sales is tricky. When adjusted for inflation, Avatar ranks 21st among all movies, well behind the all-time winner in today's dollars, Gone with the Wind. The 1939 classic would have grossed $1.5 billion if tickets were $7.30 apiece back then as they are now.

Using that measure, Avatar still has a long way to go before it will even crack the top 10 movies of all time. Adjusted in today's dollars, movies such The Graduate ($638 million), The Sting ($665 million) and 101 Dalmatians ($745.6 million) have made more, according to Box Office Mojo. And when compared to Titanic ($957.5 million), Cameron has a way to go before he sinks his own ship.
