Bill Gates Plans To Save 8 Million Lives With $10 Billion!
We think that just might cover it!
This morning, Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, announced that they are investing $10 billion into a 10-year program that will focus on providing vaccines for AIDS, tuberculosis, rota virus and pneumonia to countries around the world!
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, the power couple, who have devoted most of their time to their philanthropic foundation, both Bill and Melinda said that the potential impact of providing these vaccines early enough to people, especially children, who need them, will decrease the amount of deaths in the next decade dramatically. Melinda Gates explained to the forum:
"Vaccines are a miracle. With just a few doses, they can prevent deadly diseases for a lifetime. We've made vaccines our priority at the Gates Foundation because we've seen firsthand their incredible impact on children's lives. By significantly scaling up the delivery of life-saving vaccines in developing countries to 90 percent coverage — including new vaccines to prevent severe diarrhea and pneumonia — the model suggests that we could prevent the deaths of some 7.6 million children under 5 from 2010-2019."

WHY WHY WHY??? do the Gates' need to ensure that all of these children are going to survive? They are born into countries and economic environments where they will very likely suffer throughout childhood and struggle into adulthood. Not enough natural resources, nutrition, housing, stable families.

Why can't they focus on the ROOT of the problems? Educating these poor folk about their options?
Is the rise of China a sheer coincidence? NO, because they restricted family size legally. One child does sound outrageous to us, but they have exceptions to that rule. It has kept people focused on health, family, building a future.
But the Gates' seem to think that all that matters is saving life itself, not the quality of life, nor the implications of a population that cannot survive and THRIVE!
They would do best to offer optional sterilizations to those who need them desperately. Many women in this world will never escape the cycle of poverty!

just a general comment to everyone spitting on the money that they are giving and/or on the cause the money will support: Bill and Melinda already support alot of different programs in developing countries and not only research and development of various vaccines. Have a look at their foundation and you can find out what they do. This is a great initiative by the way.

It's all well and good to help around the world and stuff but charity begins AT HOME. Millions of Americans don't have health care because they can not afford either health care OR insurance. Why not set up some charity or something here? Lets not forget which country (and it's people) helped to fill the coffers that are now so full hmm…
