Nicole Richie Addresses Past Eating Disorder Rumors
We love Nicole Richie!!
The ex-Simple Life star has done a complete 180 from her hard pAArtying past and has grown into a sophisticated, responsible mom of two beautiful children with boyfriend Joel Madden!!
We almost forgot the sickly, gaunt frame she used to sport, but apparently she hasn't, and is lashing out against old rumors that she was anorexic.
"I felt it was a little unfair to say someone has an eating disorder when they don't. It's extremely insulting and irresponsible. An eating disorder is serious and it's a disease. I don't think you can lightly say someone has a disease unless they are openly telling you that they do."
We agree that eating disorders should not be taken lightly, but sweetheart, you were looking ROUGH for quite some time.
But let's let bygones be bygones. We're thrilled at how FEROSH and HEALTHY you look now.
Richie continues,
"I'm just one to live in the present and enjoy the time that I'm having. Going into my past is just not something that I do. Right now I'm just living my dreams."

I just don't see how else she would have gotten that incredibly skinny. It clearly was not her natural frame, she must have been abusing her body in some way to get to that level of thinness
She did have a eating disorder. Anyone remember the pic of her and her bikini was practically sliding off of her bones? But I am really happy to see she has gotten rid of the trash and diseases in her life (Paris Hilton), grown up and has matured into a really pretty lady. She has a beautiful kid (or two now? can't remember) and has a lot to live for!

how on earth can she say that she didnt have an eating disorder?? she was once chubby and fat … its not like skinny is her natural look. She had to have been doing drugs or SOMETHING to end up looking like skeleton.
Being in DENIAL is also a symptom of eating disorders. Someone with an eating disorder almost always does not want to get better. She CLEARLY had an eating disorder.. no one can be as skinny as she was and not be controlling their weight in a harmful way. I dont understand how she can say she didn't have an eating disorder??

An eating disorder is FAR different than Issues with eating. I think she probably had issues but an actual disorder, that's a whole other ball of wax and one doesn't just spontaneously get over that- one needs therapy and often it doesn't work, and if it does, it takes Years! She wouldn't be as healthy as she is now if it was a disorder. Issues with eating and body image in her world, Hollywood, is pretty standard for everyone methinks. Glad she's gotten a hold of it for herself.

someone being overly thin and having a hard time wanting to eat or getting to a health weight is no different than someone being overweight and having a hard time cutting back and eating in the right combination to lose and get to a healthy weight. if her being overly thin for a while there is a disorder then I'd have to say Every overweight person (most of North America) Also has an eating disorder. NO. They don't. Some do. But generally, it's just a 'problem' or 'issue'. People sure are eager to throw around heavy diagnostic terms for folks they don't know. tsk tsk.

She didnt have a eating disorder…..She was just snorting more cocaine than she was eating back then. She got pregnant and changed her ways simple as that.

Shame on her for not being brave enough to admit it. Her daughters will one day feel the pressure to look sickly thin too. You don't go from being a chubster to a drug addicted stick without either drugs or an eating disorder. I'm guessing she had both.
It's obvious she did have an eating disorder and given these quotes, it's further evidence. I like her careful word choice… Honestly, she shouldn't be ashamed for having survived something like that and should use it as an opportunity to talk about it and share her positive recovery with girls who need it.

Denying it makes it hard for young girls who are looking for a role model to know up from down - "oh, Nicole was super skinny but it wasn't an eating disorder, so it must be safe for me to not eat at all and ruin my body in the name of 'looks.'" If she 'doesn't go into her past', how has she learned NOT to act like she did in that reality show and in her past life with Ms. Hilton? Maybe she means she doesn't discuss her past publicly.
