Ozzy Osbourne discusses the music industry in his new autobiography I Am Ozzy and how artists are so "manufactured" in this day and age.
"It's completely different — they're manufactured people now…like ice cream. Every now and then somebody comes out and I really like them — I really like this Lady GaGa."

she had to change who she is and dress in some weird clothing and say some cooky words in interviews to be where she is right now ,she trys soo hard to seem different and unique that shes not being herself.
and when does ozzy matter? hes a washed up rock star and he shouldnt be talking about manufactured singers hes a sellout. lady gaga is all over the place right now im sure every singer has had a time like this some point in their career (avril,usher,ricky martin.. ect.) i dont know maybe im wrong maybe lady gaga will be remembered but it takes more than weird outfits and catchy beats to have a strong long lasting career.
I love GaGa but I don't get Ozzy's comment. If he doesn't like "manufactured" pop stars, GaGa is the MOST manufactured of all. There's nothing NOT calculated about GaGa.

I think the real question is… how can you NOT love Lady Gaga?
People complain that she's just as manufactured as the rest of the pop stars out there, and it's true, but she also has real talent. And is insane. Which is awesome.
And plus, Beyonce and Britney Spears may be completely manufactured too, but you can't deny that both of them are also extremely talented. I'm not a fan of their music, but they have talent.

Ozzie's originality radar still works. She's the real deal, a musician's musician, writing and performing her own or her and band member's stuff. Since fame grabbed her, some of the numbers can appear slick and over manufactured, but it's all for the stage show visuals. With so little coming down the pipe musically that's NOT extruded by industry Svengalis like plastic piping, Gaga is a breath of fresh air. There was a time 15 or 20 years ago when there were so many original and gifted mainstream working bands and artists that Gaga would have been relegated to a good footnote in the disco/rave/punkish scene.
Gaga may be manufactured, but it's by her own design. She's clever enough to know that she's going to piss people off or make them hate her, which is why she continues to do what she does. And what isn't manufactured nowadays? Alternative music hasn't been good since the early 90s and is now just comprised of a bunch of poser bands, what is considered R&B today lacks both rhythm and blues, and soul as well, and what's considered talent these days is dancing your ass off or looking good even though you're a mediocre singer. To say Lady Gaga has no talent is absurd. If she's a gimmick, so what–it works for her. Every rock and pop music icon has had some kind of gimmick, going all the way back to Elvis himself. Madonna, to whom she's often compared, didn't get where she was by sheer talent alone.
Ozzy is a jolly animal killer BIG TIME. Read his book.

Re: YoungTaurus – The industry doesn't give support or backing to some of the really good original young bands today; and they are there, but we're never going to see them unless something changes. They can't come up, develop and break through, because industry wants a sure profit bet which they get by manufacturing success for the latest XFactor winner, Simon. Trouble is, although a profit is pretty much guaranteed (see top Christmas singe every year), that profit is relatively small as that star fizzles and they have to promote new ones; as opposed to taking a chance on an original artist or group and seeing them grow and explode with artistic brilliance along with humongous and long lived profits down the road. Back real musicians. There would have been no Floyd otherwise.

Well, you can blame that all on the decline of CD sales. Twenty years ago, you had bands like the Smiths on a label, who necessarily didn't sell a bucketload of records, but the record companies kept them on for artistic merits and they believed in them. Now if you're a great band with excellent reviews but low sales, you're dropped from the label after the second and sometimes first album if you don't do well,
lady caca is manufactured just like everybody else she is no better of different.
If you've done your research, you'd see that she isn't manufactured at all. She had to work her way up by doing gigs in bars, clubs, and by performing in talent shows. There are number of other musicians, including Sting and Madonna, who have praised her talent, so please do not stereotype Gaga as some manufactured pop-princess. She is a performance artist, and musician since she plays the piano and does it very well. She composes her own songs, she has amazing vocals live during her acoustic versions, she pushes the boundaries, and she is very creative. She is clearly one of the most talented non-manufactured artists around.
Re: Sludge – of COURSE she had to use her gimmicks to get noticed. If you heard her story, she was always writing music and performing but studios didn't want to keep her because they thought that her materials wouldn't sell. Well, when she took the risk and came on, she expressed herself and made consecutive hits in her first year.
If she didn't use all of her crazy tricks, she'd just be another pop singer, and she didn't want that.
She really isn't manufactured. Unlike some pop singers, she doesn't just sit around and let her people do all of the work. She takes part and puts thought into EVERYTHING that she does. Music, videos, stages, performances, fashion. She doesn't let the people that she works with push her around.

'Cause I'm sure that writing hits that millions like, being classically trained in theater and music, knowing how to control a voice, knowing how to create an image or expand on yourself to attract attention, knowing how to mix music, knowing how to book yourself, designing sets and costumes, and alllllll is something just anybody can do. I don't try to fight people on liking her, but to say she's not talented just means you're either hating or you aren't educated on Gaga enough.
Poor Ozzy…all those drugs have taken their toll, haven't they? Sigh. I guess if I did enough dope to piss on the Alamo I might like the no talent skank, too.
