Greedy Or A Coincidence? Michael Moore Could Receive Tax Credit!
Is documentarian Michael Moore a hypocrite?
Although Moore has slammed state tax credits in the past, 2009's Capitalism: A Love Story is qualified to receive a tax credit from the state of Michigan!
A "production person" applied for a credit from the Michigan Film Office, although Moore claims he was "under pressure from the studio" to apply for the refund.
Even so, The Mackinac Center for Public Policy, a "nonprofit, nonpartisan research and educational institute focusing on issues in Michigan", feels pretty strongly about Moore's decision to accept the credit.
"While we don't blame Mr. Moore and his production team for taking what is offered, it's striking that a movie focused on the inequities of granting taxpayer dollars to private enterprise would apply for and receive taxpayer-funded incentives," said Michael LaFaive of the Mackinac Center.

Um, how much is it? A lot of tax credits are only a couple thousand dollars, or a couple hundred dollars… that's peanuts. Furthermore, while some tax credits are abusive, many are not, and many are necessary - so it's quite unfair to lump all tax credits into something that would qualify a person who has criticized specific tax credits for specific types of people as a "hypocrite." More information is needed.
Michael Moore is a pig capitalist himself. He professes to love Michigan but wants MI taxpayers to pay for his bloated California lifestyle. And he won't even divulge the expenses of the film and even attempt to prove that he brought business to MI. He needs MI taxpayers to support his movies because nobody even watches them.

I think there are other things that need to be taken into consideration, such as whether or not the film made a profit compared to what it took to market and produce the movie. This could be the very reason that Michael Moore received "pressure from the studio" to accept the tax credit, especially if they were in way over budget at the end of all things taken into account. I mean anyone who knows the history of how Michael Moore started all of these documentaries and books knows that he funded it with his own money. Michael Moore used to make less than 17, 000 a year. I doubt, highly that he is pocketing the dough. To how much could this "credit" amount? I mean we are talking about Michigan…I don't know if they are as broke as Oregon, but if so, it (the credit from the state) is NOT going to help that much!
Well, it depends on how you looks at it. I for one, do not see these tax credits as rewarding private capitalist venture. Rather, it is public funding for the arts. I support this. If he has a right to those tax credits why should he not take them, he probably pays more taxes than all the haters gathered here. Everyone should see the film "MICHAEL MOORE HATES AMERICA" It shows you what a fake he is. His films are edited for effect and NOT REAL, NOT DOCUMENTARIES. It is fine, Avatar isn't real either, but it is not passed off as such.
