Matthew Fox Is Telling His TV Career To Get Lost
He's over it and we don't blame him! It must have been really tough to spend the last six years shooting in beautiful Hawaii, with all that sunshine and crystal blue water.

With the final season of Lost only a day away from beginning, Matthew Fox is looking to the future of his career and he doesn't see TV work in it. In fact, he maybe leaving the Hollywood lifestyle for good, to live in Oregon and do…nothing. He says:
"My family will move to Oregon, back to the country I love. I miss the four seasons climate. We're building a house up there and I'll be closer to my brothers and my mother. Our kids will be closer to their first cousins."
How boring nice!
Those seasons are going to get really old really quick! Trust us, we know!

Good for him. He's obviously made enough money to leave a career in TV behind and he'll never be able to replace the time he's already lost in going off to film shows, movies or whatever. Sounds like a good family move. If you're against it, I would say it's jealousy. If he grew in Oregon, he obviously loves it still and his family or he wouldn't be leaving better weather behind.

He'll be living in the Portland area, so he'll have the four seasons. I live in Southern Oregon, and we have 3: Spring/Summer (hard to distinguish the 2), Fall, and rain (snow only on the rarest of occasions).
This might be good for him. I know a guy that works production on Lost and he said Matthew Fox really comes off as unhappy and miserable. Maybe the whole acting thing wasn't what he expected.

Home, Oregon? He's from Wyoming; Riverton area (where Ennis takes an apartment with his young family over the laundry matt) either Pavilion or Crow Heart. In his really small high school, where they graduate like 30-50 kids year) he was known as Matt Fox. COUNTRY COUNTRY. ISOLATED!! High country big time.

The people are nice and everythign is kicked back. There's none of that ego nonsense like in California and families seem to thrive a lot better out there.
Not to mention there's far less of an issue with serious crime and the only gang issues involve a bunch of white kids pretending to be gangbangers, which doesn't play out the same way.

This man is fucking gorgeous. LOST is watchable because of him and I really hope he gets good movies now that this show is almost done.
I lived in Hawaii for a year and a half, and while it's GORGUESS, and it IS a state, after awhile when you live there and there is the daily grind of work and it's not one big vacation, you start to get island fever. It's far enough away from the rest of the US that it really DOES sometimes feel like your in a foreign country. Heck we're stationed in Guam right now which is a US Territory and i'm dying to get back to New England and see some seasons change. I miss the leaves and the brisk weather during the fall and even snow in the winter. Paradise is great to visit but you take it for granted and get bored of it when you live there.
No problem there. Get in, make a lot of cash, invest wisely and get out quickly. Not everyone dreams of living the lala land life. Some people prefer reality. Good for him, gives his kids a fighting chance
The four seasons are beautiful and I would not trade them for anything. I am from California and would not move back. Good for him to take some time off.
Wow, I'm impressed. He's willing to walk away smart. Most people never get a chance after their one shot. It's so rare to get another one. That's why there are so many, "Whatever happened to…" shows. He sounds like he's been smart with his money and has the ability to kick back and enjoy life without the pressure of auditions and being typed. Good fo him.
Kudos to him. There aren't many actors out there who can say they've been on 2 hit TV shows. He was on Party of Five for 6 years, and now the amazingness that is LOST for another 6 years. I imagine he just wants to decompress and do movies which are relatively short stints at a time. I just wish he'd wanted to relocate closer to ME!! Can't WAIT for Lost Season 6 to start tonight!!!!

He's not just now moving to Oregon. He's had a couple houses here in Bend for the last few years. He lives here when he's not filming. I just think it's funny this is news. The news is that he's quitting TV, not that he's moving to Oregon. His mom and brothers & him have all lived here for quite some time. And Bend is hardly the "country." Maybe yuppie country!
I traded Florida for Oregon and truly love it.. And I think BendOregon was right. Its a retirement community for old Cali's. Nothing like the rest of Oregon.

I also live in Bend. Over the years, I've definitely seen him around town. He's trying to be normal and I respect that. He was at Stars last summer and got a dance from someone I know. I guess that's normal for a guy. Respectable? Not really, but oh well. I personally hate living in Bend. I can't wait to get out of here, but although this town is full of rich, California retirees and lots of people with too much money that live up on Aubrey, it's still full of great, peaceful, environmentally aware young people. That's what I'll miss about living here. That's it. The rest Matthew Fox can have!

He has his priorities right. He has bank, family, and wants to smell the roses. He'll pop out like a groundhog and do the odd movie or show when boredom and lack of challenge set in, and they will after enough time.
I understand his wanting to see seasons, but he's not living in a "hellhole" as one other comment here puts it. He lives in a nice uber-upper class area of Oahu. He only films lost on Oahu, and, while he may have long filming days, his family is here on the island with him. His kids go to a great school (same as my kids) and his wife is a darling. As far as I know, he walks around town here and no one really bothers him. He doesn't go out to nightlife events like some of the other cast, but that's to be expected as a father of three kids. He's a cool guy, who shuns the limelight. I respect him for that, and I think that most kamaaina feel the same way. None of these cast members have been "Hollywood." Gonna miss them and the show.
