This morning, a 13-year-old British girl named Zara Hartshorn, went on American television to tell her story.
This remarkable girl is still a teenager, but has the face of a middle-aged woman. Zara suffers from a rare condition called lipodystrophy that causes her skin to grow while the fatty tissue underneath begins to deteriorate.

Yeah I saw this on the news yesterday. They kids in school call her granny and a monkey. Sad
She has 2 older sisters who don't have it. We don't know their situation to say the mom should not have kids. Maybe her doctor said she can and that there was a chance her kids would not get it and the first two DIDN'T. I mean look at all the little people here in the States having kids. Some are healthy, some are not. People with disabilities want families too. Healthy people have kids like this too. Maybe she can get a face lift when she's 18 (if they can afford it and if it would really make a differnce). Now THIS is something you get work done for. Not for a pretty girl trying to be the 'Ungraded version' of herslf HEIDI!
I feel really bad for her. No one deserves this.

As for the comments about adoption, what a horrible thing to say. This girl is mentally sound, to suggest she shouldn't have been born due to the way she looks is just wrong!
I'm not sure what the system is in the US, but over here people can have children and if they don't work then the state pays for everything. I imagine that has something to do with the amount of children she has.
I do think this report didn't put her mother in the best light, which is unfair, I'm sure she does everything for her daughter to make her feel accepted.

It's hard to believe her mother would have so many children knowing she might pass on a disease that would cause so much emotional pain, particularly going through it herself. Seems a bit selfish. She could have adopted.

Ummmm, how about people change their attitudes to people with disabilities and disfigurements rather than just saying 'oh, she should never have been born'. Where do you draw the line with that kind of attitude? Personally, I think that is an absolutely shocking thing to say.
I'm afraid it is probably the people who say this kind of thing whose children are doing the teasing because they haven't been taught to respect differences amongst people. It is natural for some people to be born with medical conditions but it does not mean they should be outcast from society. We should find ways to help them and improve our own respect for life.

Zara if you by chance read this, do not listen to any of the negative comments made about you or your family. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. You are a worthy and wonderful human being and although your journey may be a hard one, you are here for a reason. You will find love and joy in your life if you stay true to yourself and focus on bettering yourself with education and hobbies you enjoy. Maybe someday, if it is what you wish for, you can get a surgen to volunteer to do work for free for you if that is what will help you be happy. Remember you are loved, you are beautiful and you are worthy. HUGS.

Beautiful Zara… how sad that people like Heidi Montag go out and get 10 plastic surgeries to try to be “perfect…” people like Heidi really don’t see how good they have it and should hear a story like this before they go complaining and whining to a plastic surgeon, when they aren't even close to needing any surgery in the first place! People who tease this young lady should be ashamed of themselves, she’s got a lot of strength and courage and is an inspiration to any girl who complains about beauty imperfections, which seem miniscule compared with what this girl is battling.

Just thought I'd let you guys know that I passed this story onto a surgeon today; we contacted the british newspaper the story was run in and she should be coming for a consultation with a view to work being done free of charge.

Re: heyja – Well the first thing about her is that she knows she has a genetic disorder that can easily be passed onto her child. She, herself has lived with the disorder her whole life and knows the pain of dealing with it. So how dare she inflict this onto an innocent child when there are way WAY too many UNWANTED children already in the world that NOBODY is willing to take care of!
Like a lot of people she has no business reproducing in the first place!

I'm guessing you havent adopted a single one because you either probably have one of your own by now or are planning to have your own child in the future. It's always easy to give orders and tell people what is the right thing to do but when it comes down to it you make the same stupid mistakes.
You know there are some people who do not plan on getting pregnant, oh lets see I have a disorder that will lead to people not accepting me because of my looks lets just unplug things down there so I can never have kids and try to live a normal live like the rest of the population.
I hope this girl never reads the shit most of you just wrote here, because believe me thats not gonna help her to read that she should just not be here on earth because she is diffrent in some way. People like you are the reason she suffers
