Fall Out Boy Breaks Up For Good?

Say it ain't so! What will Pete Wentz do now?

Although Fall Out Boy formally announced a hiatus last summer it appears that it could be the end of the band for good. Bassist Wentz posted on his website recently:

“As much as i don’t have a solo project, i also can’t predict that i’d ever play in fall out boy again. not due to personal relationships as much as a band we grew apart. in this statement id like to include there is the possibility that fob will play again with out me or i will be a part of it when everyone is on the same page.

"it is no ones fault and there is no animosity about the decision… i am the single biggest fan of fob and if this is our legacy than so be it. i am proud of it.”

Lead singer Patrick Stump seems to be of the same mentality saying:

“I’m not in Fall Out Boy right now, but one way or another, the band will always be around. Steven Tyler isn’t in Aerosmith anymore, but his gravestone will probably say something about Aerosmith.

"Whether we play again or not, I don’t know. If we do, it will be for the right reasons. If we don’t, it will also be for the right reasons.”

Nice sentiments, but he's no Steven Tyler and Fall Out Boy is no Aerosmith!

Stump is currently working on a solo project while Pete just collaborated with Blink 182's Mark Hoppus for the upcoming Tim Burton version of Alice In Wonderland and drummer Andy Hurley and guitarist Joe Trohman are working with another band called the Damned Things.

Are U sad to see Fall Out Boy go?

I Know some people arent FOB fans but I LOVE that band! Their music got me through some tough times and even though you could tell that things weren't quite right I always hoped that the music amd the vibe would go back to the way it originally was. I'm so sad right now.

    R.I.P. Fall Out Boy.

  3. 3

    WTF. NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. 4

I blame Ashlee Simpson for this. She's like Yoko.

  5. 5

Would I have even noticed if you hadn't posted? Nope.

  6. 6

don't care - maybe he should go focus on his kid……….

  7. 7

    they were the suck anyhow.

  8. 8

I'm insanely upset. I've been with the band since 2004. And I'm not afraid to say that I was one of their biggest fans. But ever since Ashlee came along, their sound changed and their morals changed. I think every true fan knew this would happen eventually. I'm just a little ticked that they didn't get rid of the problem, they got rid of themselves.

  9. 9

    Umm, so what.

  10. 10

Pete is just a bass player… no big superstar there

  11. 11

Their last album sucked… but I was hoping for something better in the future, so I am kinda sad.

  12. 12

the singer is all the band needs…he is FOB

  13. 13

Nice sentiments, but he's no Steven Tyler and Fall Out Boy is no Aerosmith!

  18. 18

I am definitely sad about this, but i doubt it had anything to do with Ashlee.

  19. 19

Are U sad to see Fall Out Boy go?

I just wish they would take your ball gargling ass with them.

true, that they aren't aerosmith, but still they have done a lot of good things. their music has impacted on a lot of young people and not only! they had infulance on lots of good bands. but everything has to come to an end.
i'm looking forward what future brings for those 4 guys. they all are great musicans.
i still love them, i always will.

  26. 26

I wasn't a die-hard fan but I really liked thier music. I kind of saw it coming, but I must say I will miss them.

  27. 27

Oh no…. if Avril retires too this will really be "the day the music died (again)" this band was a novelty act/joke

  28. 28

    YEAH THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. 29

You know if I was in High School still FOB not being together anymore would have been the end of the world for me, but I'm not and it isn't! so we will always have what they left and until or if they reunite when our children think we are uncool I'll be there!….

  30. 30

    How sad…. its crazy!!!

  31. 31

I am very upset by this news. Fall out Boy has been an excellent influence on me from youth into adulthood. Their original fans have grown up with them. They are all well versed and cultured men. Fall out boy never defined who these men are and should not be viewed as such. They all have lives and interests other than fall out boy. Although thankful for their success and dedication of their fans they are all meant to be doing other things and we will be able to see it happen. Patrick Stump is on a new path of a solo career where grammys will be won. Stump's name is bound to be one of the greatest of our time when Production is concerned in the future of themusic industry. Pete should look into finishing his degree in Political Science and follow in his father's footsteps when it comes to law and could very easily be a US ambassador.

  32. 32

    SOO CRAZYYY =(

  33. 33

Good, worst band ever. Now bring some real talents, these fuckers can't play to save their lives…

  34. 34

I'm actually really sad. I love their music and will miss going to their concerts. But there will always be the memories.

  35. 35

Isn't THAT GUY on the right married to THAT GIRL who's SISTER was married to THAT GUY that was lead singer in THAT BOY BAND?

  36. 36

    I CRIED :(

  37. 37

omfg i just threw up from the PAIN!!! WHYYYY

  38. 38

i LOVE FOB. Been a fan for about 4 years or so.

  39. 39

Re: AidensMommy2007 – Really? I love their latest album. Infinity on High, however, sucked.

  40. 40

Re: Big Black Dick – haha you always make me laugh. love ya.

  41. 41

This is so fucking sad. I used to love Fall Out Boy and now there music is shitty and they barely even interact with fans. & Pete Wentz you need to wake the hell up you selfish bastard, your ego is HUGE! It's probably your own damn fault you're not getting along with the band. Watch him not go on with the band but still expect money from them! I almost bet he will.

  42. 42

Re: truth in life – LOL You obviously do not know Fall Out Boy fans. Sadly, I'd say Pete Wentz has the biggest fan base in Fall Out boy, probably at least 40-60 percent, which is a lot considering there's 4 other members who are amazing. My point is, if they lost Pete as the bass player they would be losing a lot of fans.

  43. 43

Im pissed they broke up at the peak of their career. When you have a lot to give and a lot of people listening to your message, you should take full advantage. Almost no one has that chance. I WOULD say the lead singer is the talent but the writing is in all of them, im sure. Good luck to all of them.

  44. 44

I cried when I first found out!!!!!
I cried in school today when I as telling my friend as well!!!
    :(

  45. 45

Reading these comments I feel ancient because I grew up with Blink-182…. They have an a "original" fan base?

  46. 46

I am so glad to see this band go.They were nothing but a studio band GOOD RIDDANCE!

  47. 47

    who cares?

  48. 48

    whooo cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. 49

i am sad. their music is fun and well its just fun. sad.

  50. 50

    and let the depression begin.
    bye bye favorite band.

  51. 51

I thought that read "Freak Out Boy fouls up for good". Oh well, I guess they're still relevant.

  52. 52

Well their scene now is kind of dead and gone and past. To bring the first album they had out to the table again now, it probably wouldn't be so successful. The scene (fans, typical fob lineup) of warped tour-esque fans I think have kind of branched out into almost a cultish following of hardcore bands like a day to remember..or they have branched out to the indie scene that is mgmt, passion pit, kings of leon etc. FOB has a sound that is reminescent of that scene, of that short lived time frame and I think they really targeted an audience that was a popular follower of a trend. The band that has survived from that scene is definitely Paramore hands down breaking into newer trends of fans such as Twilight and they are apparently here to say. Each individual in that band is absolutely gifted with talent and I think they will all strive in different musical paths and maybe they can reconvene at a later time when the moment is right.

  53. 53

They're dumbbb. I was in love with this band like five years ago but then I notice that they're ridiculous. This is probably Ashlee's fault, but who cares? Fall Out Boy was going down the drain anyways, and I'm glad that it was finally put out of it's misery.! Whoohoooo:)

  54. 54

I absolutely love Fall Out Boy. Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman, and Andy Hurley were, and still are my heroes. I don't care if you think they are horrible, they still made their mark on anyone who listened to their music. I hope Joe and Andy do well with their new band, but I don't believe they will have the success that Fall Out Boy had. As for Patrick, his voice will take him anywhere he wants to go. Finally, Pete will find a way to happiness. Though I do not find his choice for a partner very promising, it is his choice, and hopefully he wont regret it. Fall Out Boy got me through every bit of depression in my life just because of music. I will never worship a band as much as I worship Fall Out Boy. I pray they will somehow be friends if nothing else. Their music will always be in their fans minds, hearts, and souls.
R.I.P. Fall Out Boy. May your music live on.

    :( say it ain't so :(
