Jason Mraz Wants More Straight Famous People To Support Gay Marriage!

YES!

Jason Mraz has spoken up about his support of gay marriage saying recently at the Grammys:

"I'm in the fight for marriage equality. That's why I'm wearing this pin tonight. I've just been doing a couple of different activities and events speaking out as a straight man about civil rights."

Now he is calling out other famous straight musicians like John Mayer and Kanye West for not doing the same. He explains:

"The more straight people, the better, so big names that cause a stir in the media, like Kanye West and John Mayer. [Mayer's] recently been very transparent in what he's been saying or tweeting and I would love to see some more empowering transparency rather than material or self-loathing.

"Same as with Kanye — I feel like he's such a huge presence that if he really promotes it and says, 'Listen, you need to do this,' more people would rally for the cause. The more straight heavy-hitters [that] speak up could really benefit the cause."

We couldn't agree more!

What say you, John and Kanye?

      Jason is awesome!

    2. 2

Thats really great he's doing that
      But…
It fucking annoys me when straight people havv\e to point out theyre straight and not gay. Like they dont want people to start thinking theyre gay.
They're just lowering themselves to be associated with us to try and help us.

Maybe Im wrong but that's how I feel when I see straight people pointing out theyre straight, but wanting to see gay people have rights.

      :He is soo damn sexy:

    4. 4

I agree with him. I think it is a good idea. The more famous the person the more support and publicity you would get. I think you should get Gaga, Mayer, Kanye, Miley, Michael Buble. Miley for the younger audiences. Kanye for all people who like honesty. Mayer for the people who are older but not into Gaga, and the Michael Buble for more mature people. That would be my A-team.

Re: Sexsai – I see your point there. I really do. But at the end of the day he is trying to help the cause. I will support anyone who is supporting the cause.

    6. 6

ugh, He used to be hot and talented….now he is only orange…….

    7. 7

You may either love or hate Kanye, but he was one of the first rap artists to speak out against homophobia and homophobic slurs in rap lyrics.

Re: Sexsai – I don't think you should think this way. I think Jason Mraz is rallying straight people to be more supportive of gay rights because it may make more of an impact on those who are opposed to equal rights for homosexuals. Those who oppose gay rights can't relate to a gay person and they don't care about gay people's needs. However, hearing the opinion of someone who is not gay might make a difference.

    9. 9

      Fuck gay marriage.

    10. 10

Whatever! Let people have their own opinions without celebrities trying to brainwash them. I lose respect for musicians when they start crusading - if you're for gay marriage fine but don't demonize those who aren't!

    11. 11

They can't because conservative christians are running what you people like to call the best country in the world.
So free and so great that gays and lesbians from this so called fabulous country come and get married in Canada.
      Way to go USA

      *
      *
The Fourteenth Amendment is quite clear The Equal Protection Clause that provides, that "no state shall … deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws".
      *
      *
It clearly makes no exceptions for gay.
      *
      *
If straights can marry then gays must be able to marry. Again the same but different is NOT equal.

    13. 13

I agree with him, except on one thing. I'm not sure he can accurately call John Mayer straight!

    14. 14

stay outta the tanning bed yo! to much orange for my taste ;)

      15

I completely agree- and straight men should also speak out about the need for safe sex. HIV/AIDS is NOT a "gay" disease.

    16. 16

If people would worry about their only lives and not what gay people should and shouldn't be doing, I think life would be so much easier.

    17. 17

Re: TasteMyRainbow – haha!! I dont think he tans! he says he likes to surf a lot. Thats probably why he looks so orange.

Re: Sexsai – Whoa. I don't feel that I'm 'lowering' myself at all when I support gay rights even though I'm straight. I feel that it's all about doing the right thing for other human beings. I can kind of understand your feeling that way, considering that many ambitious career minded (see some celebs) people don't jump up to help a cause unless it a) will benefit themselves in some way or b) has become accepted enough that it won't lose them work. This fight and your statement mirrors Martin Luther King's fight in the 60's in many ways.

    19. 19

Not Kanye!!! You want people speaking out, but not people who NOBODY would want to be like! He is an ass, we need respectable, decent people to speak out against this hate, not a hater!

    20. 20

Jason is a surfer. That orange glow is all natural.

    21. 21

Re: Hewhosmokeswomen – you are most likely a southern hick, a mormon with 8 wives or a fat conservative.. either way equal rights are going to happen and this is a fight you are going to lose so try opening up your mind a bit :)

    22. 22

I LOVE Jason Mraz and feel he just doesn't get enough attention too. This is an amazing statement though and I wish more people would get behind it. There is no reason why we should have separate laws for separate people based on sexuality alone. And please don't start on the marriage is from the bible argument either. This is a civil rights issue just like when blacks couldn't marry whites. Same thing. Same results should happen as well. America needs to get over their ignorance, hate and fearmongering about gay marriage and relationships in general. If other countries can do this AHEAD of us when the hell are we going to get on the right track????

    23. 23

Re: Sexsai – I understanr where you are coming from, but at the same time I feel its more that they are saying that they can support a cause without being a part of it. He's not making an issue out of being straight, but more making an issue that straight people can help a cause without being gay or being assumed to be.

    24. 24

Re: darcie – Who says he's "deominzing" anyone? I think you are demonizing him for having an opinion.

lol straight man? uhh mraz has admitted to havnig sex with dudes??

    26. 26

How bout we just put it up to vote in each state and they can decide. People who are for it are already vocal about it, if anything this turns people off from the cause.

    27. 27

So so in love with Jason.

    28. 28

      Give up already.

Jason is like five thousand different kinds of cool.

    30. 30

Great. Just what the world needs. more gay support.. vomit

    31. 31

More straight people need to follow his lead, why would any straight person be so comfortable and enjoy the shit they put people born gay through. History and religon will be on the side of Jason and gay rights …

    32. 32

Re: mcmcmc – No what we need more are uneducated bigots like you,yes that's what the world needs more of. Vomit all over you.

    33. 33

Re: Hewhosmokeswomen – Wow you are so profound. Harvard grad? Stfu redneck.

    34. 34

Re: Glen – Jason has never said he was gay and you're just doing what the scumbags of society do and that's try to put down any straight guy who supports not being a bigot against people born gay. Get an education and take less steriods ,i know for drop-outs like you the worst thing you thing you can call a straight guy like Jason is gay and that really says lots about what kind of trash your family is to have brought you up so diseased and small minded and filled with hate.

    35. 35

Re: Lady B. Good – People can't give up how they are born, but they sure can give up the ugly bigotry that you display in every post which touches on the gay themes.

    36. 36

I love Jason Mraz. He's so cute

    37. 37

If they want to support it they will. You have to be passionate about something to speak out about it. Otherwise you are lying!

Re: knowitall – It's what to expect from Hewhosmokeswomen. He smokes women, and screws cigarettes. Long time fume addled housepainter?

    39. 39

Jason Mraz, do your cause because you want too, worry about what you want to worry about and lead by example of action, not by yap of mouth. In other words what I'm saying is, shut up and do your thing. The whole as a straight this and as a straight that just makes me think you're really gay and trying to say you're straight to garnish more straight people its so self-defeating. I don't push my beliefs down your throat, those people hopefully don't either, so therefore it would be nice if you had the same respect for others. No one ever truly got someone to believe in their cause wholly via harping and hen pecking.

    40. 40

      let's abolish marriage altogether…………..

    41. 41

What arrogance, telling people how to think, and telling them to publicize it.

    42. 42

      No.

    43. 43

Sorry, but being gay is the leading cause of HIV and death. On average, gay men have 8 times more sex partners than hetero men. This is a sexual disorder and not a cause for marriage. Being gay is what feminists want. They want men to kill themselves, to have no rights to be a parent (babies come out of women who automatically get sole custody).

Hetero men and women know how to live a full and empowering life with a person of the opposite sex, in a marriage that offers all the social, economic and reproductive benefits that hetero marriage provides.

If you can't wrap your heads around this, consider this:

Smoking kills people, and Perez goes bananas about anyone who smokes. Now, if he could only apply the same fatal reality to the gay lifestyle, he might have a chance of living life in a world outside bath houses and drug-and-sex infested celebutard parties that have been photoshopped to look nice for the website.

This is one pied piper worth avoiding. Whatever Perez does is what wise people will avoid like the plague.

    44. 44

Re: davidrusher – Sorry hate to throw in some facts in your hate filled tirade with so many many lies. Aids and hiv are much more a hetro-sexual problem than a gay problem, so why the misinformation, it's a fact that one /fourth of the african continent's straight population either has hiv or aids. Secondly if you let gays get married I would think that would cut down on sexual partners and encourage monogamy, right moron? And where did you get this 8x more number can you cite a credible source? You have all the talking points of the hateful republican rightwinger evil-gelical party. Your haterd for people born gay and for women is evident in your disgusting attempt at mininormation and demonazation. Keep patting yourself on the back for being born straight and for marriage, but you leave out that almost half of the marriages end up in divorce and the lowest form of murderer that's straight can marry in prison.

    45. 45

Oh and I see that you leave gay women out of you little temper tantrum filled with lies. I would say that lesbians have the least sexual partners of anyone, but you leave them out. You are a laughable bigot ,history will judge you like the violent mean-spirited pig that you are. May karma visit you soon . The fact is lowlife that the Cheney's and REagan's support gay rights today and the Bush twins have been to a gay marriage of their good friend. In fact the top republican attorney for the republican evil-gelical party is now fighting for gay marriage. It seems like many in your disgusting gop party are now joining the good side of humanity on the gay issue. So hate away redneck and I hope that hate eats away at your health asshole.

I wish gay marrage was legal…
      so sad how it's not!
