Just When You Think NBC Can't Get Any Worse!

Racially insensitive much?!?!
Check out the menu available at NBC today that Questlove, drummer for The Roots and Jimmy Fallon's house band, Tweeted about today.
Thoughts??

they forgot about da purple drank!!!!
Who cares. I'm sure when it's Cinco De Mayo they will offer tacos and beans…get over it.
damed if u do..damed if u don't…im of east indian descent and i would consider it a compliment if my culture was honored that way..aka foods that i loved growing up….
I’m African-American and this menu does not offend me. The dishes on that menu are considered “soul food.” It’s Black Southern traditional cuisine, passed down from slavery and it’s a part of black culture and nothing at all to be ashamed of or offended by. There is nothing “racially insensitive” about this and it is high time we Blacks stop being hypersensitive about every little thing. We eat Japanese food don’t we? We eat Italian food and we eat Soul Food. What is the big deal?
First, the cook, who IS BLACK, made the menu. When "Questlove" heard what she was making, he asked her to put the neck bone in the greens FOR HIM. Then he goes and pulls this shit.
no offense, but what's so racially insensitive about it?
i live in the south and this is all extremely popular. chicken? greens? cornbread? yeah, a typical southern meal. quit trying to cause controversy where there is none.
thats hilarious! people ALWAYS have to throw the racial card, relax its all in fun!
Sounds delicious. My grandpa's from Mississippi and I grew up on that kind of stuff. Fried eggs on grits and whatnot. Oh yeah, and I'm white. It's Southern food, not black food.
Grinning~
im personally not offended, i would def indulge…idunno about the jalapeno cornbread…sounds questionable 2 me
lol thats funny as shit
so insensitive! that's southern food…granted, it probably came from the kitchens of plantation owners that african slaves had to cook. but "black" is not an ethnicity! that's a very stupid and common misconception. i hate jimmy fallon even more now.
Good Lord!
So, if it were CHINESE HISTORY MONTH, and the menu offered up eggrolls, fried rice, and chicken chow mein, would THAT be racially offensive?
Get a grip, folks… we've got more important things to react to than a FUCKING DINNER MENU.
LMAO
It would not be as offensive if it didn't say in "Honor of Black History Month"- the food is good and it is something most everyone enjoys. It is to bad that people are so stupid and insensitive.
BFD…seems to me some people like to make a mountain out of a molehill really. Like someone else said, a lot of that food is southern and no way is it racist. Ridiculous!
It is so ridiculous for anyone to take any kind of offensive to that? People want Black History Month celebrated!! On cinco de mayo people eat mexican food, on st patricks day people eat corn beef and cabbage! What is the big fucking deal?!
MMM..Jalapeno Cornbread =) Kinda sucks that a popular afro-centric figure such as Questlove would take offense to something like that…
THe word Racist doesn't even have meaning anymore. Racist use to be hanging blacks for no reason, 100 years of slavery, using the "N" word or just ever judging someone on for their skin tone. Now, this is considered racist. Sad.
this is not even a reasonable concern. Perez this post reminds me a bit of how Fox publishes crap
That meal sounds delicious! I don't see it as racist because as mentioned if it was Mexican history month or Chinese history month or… you get the idea, the appropriate food would be served and if this is not appropriate for Black history month then what kind of food is? I mean no offense….
Why is smoethign cultural considered racist or a sleight? How TOTALLY stupid. C'mon people…not EVERYTHING is racist, and if ya keep calling it that…so-called 'tolerance' will start swinging the other way. It's NOT RACIST ya BIG DOUCHE. STOP perpetuating IT!!!
Americans are so weird about this subject, I don't understand why people can't just surpass all the race issue thing. Why do you have to be so picky? Posting it on tweeter promotes racism, why not just look at it and have a laugh and go on with your day. There are tons of stereotypical things around us, maybe we shouldn't pay so much attention to that, perhaps that was, a badly chosen, good intention and that's all. I Love Questlove and The Roots…Perez, I think you're funny and witty but please stop creating so much speculation.
You know, racism isn't behind EVERYthing. I mean, if it were Italian history month, would they serve beef chow mein? Seriously, people - stop being offended by EVERYTHING!
Okay I do not find this racially in sensitive at all!!!I am from the deep south and I am white and I eat all of that on a regular basis. Food can not be racist! Most black people are originally from the south and culturally that is what people from the south eat. All southern people. If people are offended by this they are just stupid and probably have race issues of their own to work out. I love black peas with ham hocks, collard green and jalopeno corn bread just as much as by neighbor who is black. I think Dr. King would be glad to eat it if he was still alive.
I think that is absolutely ridiculous!!!! I'm an African-American and I am offended. Not all black people like collard greens, black eyed peas, jalapeno bread, watermelon and every other type of food associated with African-Americans. Show some class and respect!!!!!
LilliyP….so lets say they put chinese food on the menu..would you then be having a sook that that is disrespectful to black people also? How about you find something worthwhile to make a big deal out of? You all complain about racism etc…but your the ones drawing attention to it. Get a life, honestly. There are more important things going on in the world over what is being served on a networks lunch menu. Grow the fuck up
You left out the part where the person who thought up the menu and cooked all the food is a black lady.
It it was really RACIALLY INCENSITIVE, the drinks would have been grape Kool-aid, LMAO!
mikemalach@myspace.com
HAHAHAHA
But seriously, that's bad.
Only a putz like Mario and others like him who suffer from Collective White Guilt would find something "racist" and degrading with this. The menu reflects regional comfort food that most southern blacks enjoy, and it's not limited to them. Most folks from the South - across racial and socieconomic lines - eat those menu items on a regular basis.
That's a pretty common Black History month meal that is served at many places during Febuary…it's called "southern food"…NOT racially insensitive…
Wheres the kool-aid?!
Re: alliemac22 – Ur an idiot. Not all latinos eat tacos. Im hispanic and Dont eat tacos. All this is is just stereotypes.
What the @#($&@#(. Way to stereotype. Especially in the world of being overly PC, this is just really odd.
Wow.
People are too freaking sensitive these days.
Whoever is actually upset by this needs to get a SMACK!
I dont understand.. why is FOOD considered offensive? You dont see Mexicans getting all bent up about their tamales or the Japanese about their sushi. Who cares? It's only food..
Fuck Questlove. That dude is a primadonna asshole, stoner and disgrace to Afican Americans. What the hell has HE done for his community?
Re: alliemac22 – Italian food or Chinese food (for example) is indicative of the country that the food is from. "Black people" food is not a country. African-American's began cooking certain types of foods that was given to them while enslaved. This food not necessarily African. Also, other poor people in the South cooked and ate the same foods. Hence it is Southern food or simply American food.
Honestly… The cook for NBC is a black woman who wanted to have some soul food for Black History Month!… I'm Aboriginal (Native) and we as a people are known to eat traditional foods like Fish, bannock, Moose meat etc.. we don't deny it and damn well serve it at feasts because we are proud of our culture. Fish is a pretty general food just like CHICKEN is, get over it.
Re: Lilygirl27 –
True, it's associated with black history for a reason, embrace it! There's nothing wrong with those foods. Every other race have their own culture/traditions (i.e. food), why do african americans fight so hard to NOT have any?
