A Star Is Born Remake?

beyrc.jpg

This just sounds terrible! We hate when they start messing with the classics!

Rumor has it that Beyonce and Russell Crowe are up for the lead roles in a Warner Brothers remake of the Barbra Streisand classic A Star Is Born.

Beyonce is no Barbra (or Judy!) and Russell is no Kris Kristofferson, BUT we do appreciate that the pair of them would make for one of the most prominent on-screen interracial relationships since Whitney Houston and Kevin Kostner in The Bodyguard.

We like the diversity, but we don't know if we're on board with the remake.

No formal offers have been discussed yet, but Beyonce's been interested in this part for awhile and the studio is said to be very keen on Russell Crowe for the part.

Do U think this is a good idea?

i dunno but beyonce looks fierce !!

    2. 2

Russell Crowe = box office poison! Wanker!! Remember people, he's from New Zealand NOT Australia!!

    3. 3

Hurl. This makes my stomach churn.

    4. 4

      I think it sounds terrible.

    5. 5

ooofa those are some thick legs.
and why remake a half baked movie?
as a matter of fact why remake ANY movie?
can't hollywod think outside the box or are they so uncreative now?

    6. 6

I heard Robert Downey Jr was being put up for this role. Go and check IMBb, it says so too.

Russell Crowe - god, no, please. You need someone sexy like Downey for that role.

    7. 7

I'd just like to add, I'm sure Beyonce would rather be snogging Robert Downey Jr than Russell "fighting round the world" Crowe.

    8. 8

      HELL NOOOOOOOOOOOO……………………………

    9. 9

oh nooo! why won't she go away!! she is sooo greedy (in terms of wanting to own all aspects of hollywood). Please don't let this happen!! I feel sick.

    10. 10

This could be good! Russell can sing.

    11. 11

Why in the bloody hell do they keep putting Beyonce in movies? She's a great singer and performer but she can't act her freaking way out of a paper bag! I just cringe when I think of her performance in Austin Powers as Foxy Cleopatra. *shudders*

    12. 12

classics are classics. leave them alone.

    13. 13

beyonce is good and everything but trying to take a role played by Barbara S. is sucide

      14

      Excuse me while i vomit.

    15. 15

Not a fan of pop stars being thrown onto the silver screen just because they are popular singers. When I go to a movie, it's to escape, not buy into the brand. Hire a serious actress who has studied the art of acting and I will shell up the cash to see the movie.

    16. 16

      Beyonce=Barbara Streisand? No effing way.

    17. 17

Uh yeah. The Streisand version is the classic? Her version was the second remake of "A Star is Born." The original was in 1937 and starred Janet Gaynor and Frederic March. The first remake was in 1954 and starred Judy Garland and James Mason. Whatever the case, pretty sure that Beyonce and Russell Crowe don't belong in that company.

    18. 18

Beyonce looks HOT. I hope her fragrance comes to Sweden.

Never heard of the movie so don't have any thoughts to share (like u care lol).

    19. 19

Beyonce should stop acting. Stick to what she's good at: shaking her ass.

    20. 20

Beyonce needs to sit her ass down. She is a very talented women, but don't promise to take a break and then keep co coming up with all these new projects like every 5 minutes. If B went away for like a year or two we would be so much more interested in what she has to offer, when she came bk Give us time to miss you and stop over saturating the market with all this mess. Give someone else a chance.

    21. 21

      No cause Beyonce can't act.

    22. 22

Perez, you did this story about three months ago. I guess you forgot that people told you that the Streisand remake of the Garland remake was the worst of the three remakes. You really are stupid aren't you?

    23. 23

GREAT IDEA!!! I HOPE THIS HAPPENS LOVE BEYONCE AND RUSSEL

    24. 24

Come on Perez - Kevin Kostner? Do you even proofread your postings or run them through a spellchecker? Do you realize how much of a moron you make yourself look when you can't even get the names of the celebrities you blog about correct? I'm sure Kevin Costner would appreciate it. You're an idiot, Perez. Give it up.

    25. 25

Oh please no, 1) Can't Hollywood stop making remakes, seriously try to come up with something new and interesting instead of giving us crap that's already been redone like three times. 2) Russell Crowe seriously needs to get some better roles 3) I am not a fan of Beyonce acting, I'm not saying she is horrible at it because there are far worse out there but she is a singer, not a actor. I hate it when celebrities mix up their stuff… just stick to what you started with, there are plenty of other actresses that would be better suited. That's all I have to say about this crappy news.

    26. 26

You're a horrible gay man! How dare you have Judy be second! A Star Is Born in a Judy Garland classic, and Babs just happened to do the shittier remake to 2 films prior. Anyone will tell you Judy's was THE BEST!

    27. 27

RUSSEL CROW? HE'S OLD AND UGLY. HOW ABOUT CHANNING TATUM OR SOMEONE ELSE ATTRACTIVE.

    28. 28

HELL NO. Beyonce CAN'T ACT. She is horrible, even if they make this movie, it will flop.

    29. 29

are you fucking kidding me?? beyonce is fierce. she is a diva.

    30. 30

No! Beyonce cannot sing well enough to carry on a role propigated by Garland and Streisand. I'd say Lea Michelle could pull it off in a few years. She's the only person I've heard do a remake of a Babs song and rock it. Whoever does it needs to be a great singer. Beyonce can dance, she writes great songs, but a truly great singer she is not.

    31. 31

      Re: pghamy – -
      -
hey!! you knew!! honestly I was hoping none of the mouth breathers posting would know so I could rag them out for being soft-headed MTV zombies but you are too quick for me!
      -

    32. 32

this sounds as dumb as them remaking we are the world.

    33. 33

Why not? In terms of music Streisand's remake was awfuL. Maybe Beyonce can make a better soundtrack and overall movie. As it is I would hold my breath if it's a good or better than the Garland classic!

    34. 34

      Re: Sayesha

I couldn't agree more and I don't understand why directors give her fat ass a chance, I can't stand her voice and how fake she is, why does she want to be white so desperately?

This movie will be abysmal and flop big time.

    35. 35

ugh there are sooo many other actresses to choose from, why pick that wretched tranny? this remake is a trainwreck waiting to happen.

    36. 36

yuk, yuk & yukky!!! Beyonce cannot act. And hunn she is not Barbara S. Actress short list Zoe Saldana, Vanessa Williams, Mary j. Blige., Erykah Badu. Actors Chris Pike, Tommy Lee Jones, George Clooney, Johnny Depp.

    37. 37

HOLLYWOOD IS DEFINITELY RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS..NOTHIN BUT REPEATS! I UNDERSTAND THE CASTING "THOUGHT" - BEYONCE IS A GREAT SINGER - BUT FUCK…THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER TALENTED BLACK/LIGHT-SKINNED ACTRESSES OUT THERE - WHY IS EVERYTHING BEYONCE? ANYBODY SEEN PAULA PATTON? HALLE? NOT LIKE B IS HARDUP FOR CASH

    38. 38

Dude, the Babs movie IS a sh*tty REMAKE of a Judy Garland movie that is actually very good.

This Crowe thing is a remake of a remake.

    39. 39

she should stick to making shitty music. She's has the worst fucking voice.

    40. 40

      NO Bow Wow beyonce!!

      This hideous creature is BORRRRRRRING!!!!!

      Boring music, boring everything

    41. 41

Beyonce is black and not suited for this classic, Russell is not a singer.

Lets just leave this classic alone and have someone do Nemo 2 with Ellen, thank you

    42. 42

Its been done three times, each time starring a major actress who redefined the part. Beyonce is this generation's Judy and Barbra (I saw them each in concert twice) and she has all the chops she needs to make this part her own just as the three previous actresses did. Perez, you need schooling, girl. You're you're making yourself look dumb.

    43. 43

Perez, bb, A Star is Born has been re-made several times. First outing? Starred Janet Gaynor. Then came Judy Garland and James Mason. THEN came Babs. THEN came a sorta re-make called The Rose that was a mash-up of Janice Joplin's story and ASIB (thanks, Bette Midler and Kris Kristofferson), and now we have this abomination to look forward to? Ewwww. Beyonce looks great, and it is definitely time for a diva re-make of the film, but one prob? Beyo can't quite get those acting chops movin' like she can her amazing voice and dancing. And Russell Crowe? Just. No. Way.

    44. 44

I am not a fan of Beyonce's music, but she has an amazing voice. It may not be Barbara, but it is far better than Judy's. Judy is an entertainer. She has a terrible voice.

    45. 45

This would be the 3rd remake of " A Star Is Born". The first and original starred Janet Gaynor, the first remake one starred Judy Garland and the second one starred Barbra Streisand. Perez, you really need to hire some fact checkers, because believe it or not you do not know everything about entertainment!

    46. 46

Why can't we take back our posts??? I take back my last one. Judy Garland had an amazing voice…I was thinking of Liza Minelli.

      Sorry.

    47. 47

I think Beyonce would be great in this role by the way. As long as she does not star with her husband. We do not want another El Cantante!

    48. 48

Someone please shoot the casting director!! S.T.A.T.

    49. 49

what about Sean Patrick Thomas and Julia Stiles in Save The Last Dance? ftw,i love that movie.

    50. 50

I AM SICK OF THAT BITCH AND FUCKING GANGSTER HUSBAND-ENOUGH!

    51. 51

Streissand's version of A Star Is Born is actually a remake! Judy Garland is the leading lady in the original one!

    52. 52

why is everyone remaking all the old classics an making them shit. two of these movies have been made already by two talented actors already. why make a third with such a bad actor like beyonce. like madonna shes a bad actress she should just stick to singing. And these movie producers have to go too. they keep getting the same actors over and over agin to remake horrible movies. what happend to artistic thinkers of the 20s-80s. why is ever movie maker so money hungry it makes me sick.

    53. 53

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHEN WILL SHE GO AWAY!!!!!!!
she is sooo over exposed and plus SHE CAN'T ACT she is so narcissistic she needs go sit her ass down and give Jay-Z some babies! I will seriously puke if she is in this movie! I seriously HATE her!!!!!!!!!!

    54. 54

Can't see it.. don't see the chemistry at all.. love Russell Crowe, but don't see it with Beyonce.. not.. at.. all…

    55. 55

Actually, it's a JUDY GARLAND classic!

    56. 56

Hell No — am I the only one tired of Beyonce already?!?!?!?!?!? And who told her she can act; has she ever heard of a voice coach — you can cut her accent with a fork.

    57. 57

oh no…i like me some B especially when she's on stage moving her big ass
and looking beautiful…but leave the acting to actresses…boo you ain't no actress
poor whitney, she was a great singer and a pretty good actress. poor Mariah
she's a good singer great actress but just a hot tacky mess.
B you are great but quit trying to be a actress cause ;you suck!!!! hello
      dreamgirls…obession??? i don't think so boo

    58. 58

Ok so this is what happens when you will a razzie for worst actress (Obsessed)?? you get offered the lead in a great story that you have no business being in? I can think of a few people who would do a LOT better as Esther like Marion Cotillard who can sing AND act, Reese Witherspoon, Alicia Keys to name a few and I can think of WAY better guys to play John such as George Clooney, Joaquin Phoenix or Johnny Depp who all can sing also…this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of and if she is cast I refuse to see it

    59. 59

WHAT A LAME IDEA AND ALSO THEY WONT MAKE A GOOD ON SCREEN MATCH

    60. 60

One must remember..First it was Judy Garland and James Mason, THEN Barbara and Kris. TWO, totally, mismatched couples. …I can see this; I can.

    61. 61

      ….RDJr….? maybe

    62. 62

Um, excuse ME! Bab's was a remake of JUDY GARLAND. Hellooooooo?????

    63. 63

Re: I Hate Beyonce!! – o.m.g., i totally almost switched my username to your username. I have never seriously had anything against any celeb until mrs. knowles-carter emerged. I can no longer tolerate her! Who are these people supporting her continued efforts? Sickening.

    64. 64

Beyonce is no Jennifer Hudson. B cannot act and while she has an all right voice, she would not be able to pull off this role. Russell Crowe can do anything and make it look effortless, genius actor. If it were Crowe and someone else, a female who can act, then maybe the FOURTH remake of this film may fly.

    65. Zip says – reply to this

      65

The original A Star Is Born" has been remade before, around the same time the Barbara "Streisand remake came-out, although never acknowledged as a remake of A Star Is Born…the film was called, "New York, New York"…starring Liza Minnelli and Robert DeNiro.

    66. Zip says – reply to this

      66

What is with the interracial music industry theme though, didn't Beyonce already do this with the Etta James film, "Cadillac Records"?

    67. 67

NOOOOOOOO! Leave that classic alone! B is no Queen B!

    68. 68

Leona lewis or Christina Aguilera!!!!!! And Colin Ferth.

    69. 69

HELL YES for Beyonce because she has proven she can act… Dreamgirls! HELLO!!! RUSSEL CROWE????? HELL TO THE FUCKING NO!!!! BAD BAD BAD BAD IDEA!!!! Jesus christ, seriously? That's a disaster waiting to happen. BAD FIT. Who comes up with this shit? I will be so upset if this happens. I would NOT see this and I LOVE the 1950's version with Judy Garland, and the 70's one with Babs.. AND the 30's version too. Oh god somebody in the studio better use their power and brains and stop that before it happens. This is NOT the right legacy for a film like this to deserve.

    70. 70

      Re: xhollax – i agree!!

    71. 71

Re: LusciousLiz – i retract my original comment.. i like your perspective WAY more!

    72. 72

      VOMIT!

    73. 73

Re: dangertwinkie – Thank you! The first name that came into my mind was Jennifer Hudson. She is way better than this overplayed woman. She tries to get a lot out of her carrier now, but she will realize, that if she goes to far people will be sick of her. It has already started…

    74. 74

See this is F'ing ridiculous, like Chelsea Lately said on her show "Take a break Bitch." Beyonce is so overexposed it's a bit sad, give your 40 something year old husband a baby before he leaves your booty shaking a$$ for Rihanna alcoholic a$$. This is not about light skinned black women, this is about actresses that have the gift to act and sing and Beyonce is none of that . J-hud needs some more shine, I feel she is overlooked…but guess what? If Beyonce sits her ding bat a$$ down somewhere maybe other black actresses will have a chance.

    75. 75

If Hollywood can squeeze ten cents outta this they'll make it. However they won't get my dime

    76. 76

poor b married to that fudge packer in the closet, using her for a beard turd camel face.

    77. 77

Re: realsis – her husband is a fudge packer ass wipe. reason he married her was to hide his true sexuality, add currency to his own star, and to make a true star child. he doesnt love, nor can he love her like a real hetero husband can. he uses her for his own gain. he treats her like she the minute she does anything remotely displeasing to him. he doesnt show her affection, great sex, …its like distanct gay cousins with an agenda being married. WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!!

    78. 78

Need this film like a fucking haemorrhoid.

    79. 79

Don't do it Beyonce! Russell can guarantee you a bomb. He is so foul, I can't deal.

    80. 80

      Yes for "The Bodyguard" 's remake ( it's a Good Idea )
But Hell No for " A Star is born"

    81. 81

Who the hell cares about A Star is Born remake. Most people are too young to remember it anyway

    82. 82

a star is born? made striesand… any person wanted to star in the remake is STUPID, MORONIC, AN IDIOT AND WANTS TO BE LAUGHED AT FOREVER…. well, go ahead beyonce, never thought much about you anyway, but the critics are going to RIP YOU A NEW ONE….. This, the wizard of oz, gone with the wind, there are some classics you do not touch… and anyone who wants to star in it is an idiot… okay.. we got someone in lead.. next beyonce in the sound of music, beyonce in on the waterfront, beyonce in titanic, beyonce casablanca…… you HAVE to know your limitations. just because you sat in your room as a little girl reciting the lines by heart, does NOT mean your are perfect for the role…. if this was true, Mario would be doing remakes of all the shirley temple movies…… on the good ship lollipop… it's a great ship, the lollipop… oh, mario, you in golden curls, just like cindy brady….

    83. 83

A Star Is Born worked back in 1937 (Janet Gaynor) and in 1954 (Judy Garland) and even in 1976 (Barbra Streisand) before women were as liberated and independent than now. The premise is the aging male falling star married to the female rising star and

    84. 84

Why do you assume that any old film that is up for a remake is a CLASSIC? What is classic about "A star is born"? The original film will not be a hit today, because it comes across as quite old fashioned.

    85. 85

all the alcohol fueled angst about not being in the dominant male position personally and professionally, competing with a woman who is on top of her game. It would have to be seriously reworked.
      . . . . . . . . . . .
For some good back-in-the-day viewing check out Bette Midler in The Rose. For some real good back-in-the-day viewing check out Garlands A Star Is Born.

    86. 86

Definitely a good idea! Magnetic, intelligent, savvy intense and sexy. Yup, it'll fly.

    87. 87

NO!!!!!!! Don't do it, please GOD. I love Beyonce, but I feel like she is desperately trying to be an icon like Barbra and Madonna. Beyonce, leave it alone. You will never be Barbra and will sure as hell never be a Madonna. I have a feeling Ms. Beyonce will soon go the way of Jennifer Lopez in a few short years. I would rather see Rihanna remake this…she said she wanted to go into acting. :) JK.

    88. 88

Like I said before, Beyonce, you risk getting over exposure. You are not an icon in anyway shape or form. This is what happened to Jennifer Lopez. Her head started getting too big and she wanted to do everything. Only Barbra Streisand could pull off the whole nine yards (except she can't dance lol). Now look where J.Lo is…she's not the star she was back in the early to mid 2000's.

    89. 89

HELLO NO! DON'T MESS WITH WHAT'S NOT BROKEN!

    90. 90

I don't know how good of an idea this is.

    91. 91

NOOOOOOO! Leave these classics alone! Remakes usually suck!

    92. 92

Streisand's remake was awful enough, I shudder to think how bad Beyonce's take on it will be.

    93. 93

first of all that movie was crap the first time around, second of all russell crow is gross and the only good movie he ever made was ROMPER STOMPER - although he does appear as a racist character- and third beyonce is over rated i mean yeah she has had some good songs but like jlo and mimi stick to singing

    94. 94

You can't call it an interracial relationship since Bey is practically white these days…

    95. 95

Having loved the two previous films of this story, I think they will have a huge loser on their hands if they cast it with these two performers, both of whom I admire. To call this potential casting "uninspired" is an understatement. Beyonce was awful on the Grammy's. How about Pink and Ewan McGregor?

    96. 96

Re: Zip – What in the world are you talking about? Of COURSE there was a remake starring Streisand called…ta-dah…"A Star is Born".

    97. 97

Why bother? Its a classic that has only gotten worse with each incarnation. Both actors deseve some fresher material.

    98. 98

first of all dont you mean the judy garland film?

russell crowe is so up himself
thinking he could play that sort of leading man

go back to the colosseum numnuts

    99. 99

      Re: voiceofreason – AAAAAAAAAhhhhhh LOLs.

    100. 100

im still waiting for the AFRO to make a comeback with monkeys
