Dear Miley: Dear John Is Going To Own You! (Or So They Think!)
We assume a lot of you ladies will be dragging your significant others for a little boo-hoo time at the movie, Dear John this weekend. Remember your Kleenex!
Unfortunately, this is just the first of two sappy love stories to come out of the Nicolas Sparks collection. The Last Song, starring Miley Cyrus, is coming out at the end of March.
So which will do better? Let's ask the stars!
When Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum were asked what would have happened if the movies had opened on the same weekend, Amanda gave an awesome answer:
"If The Last Song was coming out the same weekend as Dear John, we'd have to collaborate on some sort of sabotage mission."
Yes! Amazing!
Course, it would have been futile. We're fairly certain that her flick will do mildly better with the tween population on her side.
But which do U think will do better?

Dear John used to be my favorite book from Nicholas Sparks, but after reading The Last Song, which I bought yesterday, I think I prefer that one! The story in The Last Song is so much better, I never cried that much while reading a book. Although, I don't think Miley is the right person to do Ronnie. I don't picture her the way the character is in the book. But, I'm still looking forward to seen it, even though I think Dear John will be a much better movie!
i read both books and i preferred the last song over dear john. however, i wouldn't count dear john out just yet because there hasn't been a good chick flick out lately (when in rome doesn't count) and so i feel like it could really do well. however, i am excited to see both and there is no competition as they are both nicholas sparks novels so i win because i love them both!
I'm looking forward to both regardless of who is acting in them, as they are both great books, just hope the gilm versions are as, for both.
I don't think people should blow off The Last Song just cos of Miley, until they've seen it and I heard it got good reviews from critics too.
Both look so awful!! I will proudly see neither shitfest.

Dear John might be a better movie than Last Song, but LS will probably dominate in the box office because of all the little squealing tweens wanting to see a "Hannah Montana" movie. Also, whenever I hear the name of Miley's movie all I can think of is Gackt's song.

Dear John will obviously be better. But like a person up there said, Miley has tons of fans so the last song will make a bunch of money.
The lesser evil here is "Dear John", just because the two stars are far more likable than Miley, easily. "Last Song" has big competition when it releases, but considering the big opening that "John" is having, they'll both be pretty close.

Re: gurly13 – I just want you to know that The Last Song was SPECIFICALLY written for MILEY, she always has been a huge fan of Sparks' novels, and asked him to write her a MOVIE, and since ur a Sparks fan, u should have known that !
+ the movie's script was written BEFORE the actual book ! Nicholas was inspired by MILEY to invent the story, in fact, Miley was the one who choose the character's name Ronnie (its a tribute to her grandfather named Ron)
so if u like the story so much, its partially thanks to Miley.. now stop saying that Miley is not the right person to play this, cuz if she never existed, u would've never read the book anyway..
Oh goodness. They both sound awful but lets hope that "Dear John" does better. I am shocked that someone actually hired Miley to act in a film.
Personally I prefer Amanda, but I love his books so will be seeing both regardless of who is in which movie.
Both of the books are great, but the last song is better. Im thinking the movie will be great also…I saw Dear John and it was a really good movie(with a better ending than the book). And like everyone said, Mileys fans will go see it because shes in it.

I saw Dear John last night. I did not like it at all. It made NO sense at all that she married that guy….no sense at all!! We went from romantic letters and promises to her just dropping him. Why couldnt she just help the guy with the kid??? Why would she throw away the love of her life??? It just made no sense at all….

I just saw Dear John today and it wasn't even HALF as good as the trailer made it out to be. Watching the little clips of the Last Song, it looks REALLY good. The book is amazing also. I think the Last Song will do a lot better
Oh Perez, you silly queen. Nicholas Sparks is a wonderful author, althought I doubt you know anything other than trashy books like the ones you write. I have no doubt that both films, even the one w/ Miley Cyrus, will do well…just like The Notebook.

Here is my take. I believe that Dear John will sell more for the simple fact of it speaks to all of the military wives. Yes miley has all of her little teeny bopper fans out there but Dear John hits the hearts of all the military wives who husbands are deployed. I live in a military town and know many military wives, they are all planning on seeing the movie because they are able to emotionally connect to the story line. And it has Channing Tatum in it…need I say more. He is doing great as an actor. He has built a reputation for great movies. I honestly think Miley is a joke. She cant sing, she cant act. She is horrid. She cant connect to an audience her own age. She thinks that she is more talented than she really is, and for that i feel sad for her. Most of her fans still havent even hit puberity yet. The only reason why it might sell more is because her fans will need their parents to take them to the movie.
I don't know, Dear John has so much hype and basically every girl I know is dying to see it, so that says a lot. However, Miley does have that star power but it's in a sense where you either love or hate her usually going without an inbetween. But she's controversial nontheless, which will result in hype for her movie as well. I predict they'll both do about the same, but who knows?
The Last Song might be worth going to see. Unfortunately, there's a nasty ho starring, so I'll have to resist.
At least one mega tearjerker does well every year and we haven't yet had one this year. Although it's only February and I have no doubt that Rachael McAdams will cry and scream her way into the number one spot for 2010 just as she has every year since 'The Notebook'.
I read both books and I personally liked The Last Song more. Dear John was a great movie (I saw it yesterday), but the plot of The Last Song was something which hit me harder.
While I think the actors in Dear John are more talented, I think Miley may surprise us.

You notice how in the previews, they don't even show her TRYING to act, or overacting i should say, or show her f'd up hillbilly teeth that much. The girl is ugly, has no discernible talent, and is a Disney money making joke. No self respecting young adult woman is going to care two shits about seeing this movie.

I saw both Last Song and Dear John. I saw The Last Song months ago from a private screening. The Last Song was better than Dear John by a landslide. I thought Dear John was an awful movie and horribly made. The Last Song actually sticks to the book and has great acting and a great story. It will most likely do better because of Mileys fans
