Sarah Silverman Thinks It's Embarrassing That Gays Can't Marry

Genius!!

Sarah Silverman usually brings the LOLz, but we don't mind her when she's serious either - she is articulate, well-spoken, and very passionate about equal rights!!

When the subject of gay marriage was brought up, Silverman says:

"Not only would I not get married, it actually actively bums me out that anyone who is for equal rights would get married right now. There's nothing different between that and joining a country club that doesn't allow blacks or Jews back then. Who needs to get married that bad that they'll be a part of a club like that? This is embarrassing. It's embarrassing."

Way to go, Sarah!! Thanks for your support!!

      Totally Agree With Her…

Don't thank her for her support. She isn't supporting you. she is supporting gay men and women who actually have a chance of getting married some day. You Perez, will remain a spinster.

    3. 3

i "dye" for sarah silverman. luvs her. smart. beautiful. funny. the trifecta.

      well said, kiddo!

it feels like just yesterday that blacks and whites couldnt marry each other in certain parts of this country. we'll get there very soon. it's inevitable. but not 50 years! that's absurd!

      Well said!

Uhh…while I'm heartily in favour of gay marriage — and proud that it's available in my country. Why would someone get married when gay marriage isn't available yet? Well, because of the same reasons why gays WANT marriage in the first place! Marriage LEGALLY protects your partner and your children. So yes I can understand that some straights might still be getting married even while they fight for marriage rights for their gay friends and family. Marriage isn't like a country club.

she is absolutely right. she was great on stern the other day. i still don't like her show but i respect her.

hate to break it to you, mario, but you're destined for life-long celibacy.

      yay Sarah!!!

    9. 9

no one will marry you perez, so what do you care?

    10. 10

uhm, no thank you…. you know, that could back fire too…. saying the institution of marriage is not important. politicians will look at this as, 'hey, no one in this liberal district is getting married, they are saying it is not important, so, why would we put our necks on the line? You have to show that EVERYONE wants to get married. 'We are all married except for Ed & Maury and they really what it too. and we will fight for them' Do it the other way, the brangelina way, and it looks like they don't value marriage, not that they are sticking up for you. it also makes no sense and how it is going to help gays get married. I haven't seen anything speed up and a moral outcry go out across this country saying 'brangelina is not married because the gays of the world can not marry, we must pass equal marriage laws for gays.' I have just heard them being called hypocrites because they have both been married before.

no one cares what this rodent thinks.

    12. 12

First off…marriage is defined as a union between a man and woman…i'm all for equal rights and homosexuals being able to get married…but then change the definition…

    13. 13

You're such a funny lady, Miss Silverman… Our Affirmative Action Kenyan President does NOT agree with you about gays marrying….that's odd really, 'cuz Hussein thrives on chaos. Must be his Muslim sensibilities kicking in, who prefer to execute gays, than give them equal rights.

    14. 14

When these Marxist thugs takeover, the Jews are taken first, then the gays. It doesn't look good for you Sarah or Mario. Start working on Plan B.

    15. 15

I never thought of it that way, but she's right! Go Sarah!!!!

    16. 16

I totally agree with her i dont understand why 2 people who love eachother are forbidden to get married its so unfair and what business is it to anyone else its disgusting that people stand in the way of this!

    17. 17

      fully agree!

    18. 18

stop insulting blacks and jews by comparing them to gays!!

    19. 19

I LOVE SARAH AND THE GAYS

Re: luvstotango – This seems a very odd forum for someone like you. I don't know if you think you sound intellegent or if you are winning anyone over with that nonsense. Hmmm, weird. To me and probably other people on this website you just come across as hateful and mentally unstable. Someone who has genuine disdain for his/her country and president. Just angry because our president isn't white.
Don't you think you'd get further with your "agenda" on a website where there are lots of other angry Christian fundamentalists that share your (delusions) views? Even Bill OReillys website seems too liberal for you. Something more KKK or skin head would do it.
Don't ever leave here though. That'd ruin MY fun. :)

    21. 21

      I love Sarah.
What I find embarrassing are all of the anti gay people who spend all kinds of time and energy worrying about GAY anything. I'll never understand, nor can they ever explain WHY THEY CARE?
To me it has to be that either they are closet homos with lots of fear and anger built up or just that they are not content unless they are in somebody else's business. WTF?

    22. 22

Re: DaisyAdair – exactly! well said :)

    23. 23

It's so refreshing to see the masses of celebrities backing this movement. The gay community deserve equal rights. Period. Every color, sex, race, orientation, and religion deserve to live their life or lives equally. Marriage equals one man, one woman *OR MAN* :) or two women, two Jews, Christians, or Episcopalians. Kudos Sarah, Perez is right, when you are serious, you are just as awesome as your comedic talents!

    24. 24

While I agree with the sentiment that it's ridiculous that gays can't marry, to claim that straight people getting married is the equivalent of joining a whites-only country club is a bit far-fetched. There are many parts of the world where the right to vote and go to school are limited to men or people who own land-it's a total injustice but should it stop those of us with voting rights and decent educational opportunities from utilizing those rights? I don't think anyone would suggest that. There is nothing wrong with straight people getting married. There IS something wrong with a system that does not recognize equality. Know the difference.

    25. 25

Although I agree with the point that anyone should be able to marry. I couldn't care less to hear it from this foul mouth "rodent" as YUCK put it. Sara can't find someone to marry, so she is putting down those that are getting married. It's ridiculous to think that every male/female couple that wants to get married should put it on hold until the law is changed for gay rights. She's an idiot.

    26. 26

Re: Aderia – Who's definition is this? Words are just words. And the word "marriage" is used in a plethora of ways that have nothing to do with matrimony. Get a dictionary.

    27. 27

JUST THINK IF YOU HAD A GAY OR LESBIAN KID OR BROTHER OR SISTER, JUST HINK HOW ENBARRASSING THAT WOULD BE. IMAGINE THOUGH IF HOMOSEXUALS WERE ALLOWED TO MARRY AND THEY WERE ALLOWED TO WALK AROUND ON THE STREETS HOW FILTHY SOCIETY WOULD BECOME. WHAT WOULD BE NEXT–LEGALIZATION OF BESTIALITY? POLYGAMY? RAPE? MURDER? CHILD MOLESTATION? THEYD HAVE TO LEGALIZE EVERY OTHER DISGUSTING BEHAVIOR

    28. 28

Well said, Sarah. Thanks for your good point. F**k the H8ers!

    29. 29

Ok, I do agree that everyone should be able to get married regardless of their orientation, telling straight people to put marriage on hold is just not economical. I got married not only because I love my husband but because it was the financially sound decision to make. I don't exactly have the luxury to continue a long-term relationship and hope that we'll be able to make ends meet. Plus if anything were to happen to him, I wouldn't have to wait for his parents to arrive to make important medical decisions which could be risky in an emergency since they're thousands of miles away. So yes, gays should be able to get married, and I will keep fighting for it. But telling others not to get married is not the way to get that to happen.

    30. 30

But Perez, who in the world would marry your ugly ass?

    31. 31

She said the exact same thing on the View.

    32. 32

As a total supporter for equal rights, if I was in a homosexual relationship I would be pretty ticked off that straight couples have the opportunity to get married and are not taking advantage of it. Thankfully, though, I live in Iowa City, Advocate Magazine's gayest city in the US where everyone has the right to marry!

      Re: TxOurTx

She's with a great guy right now who loves her… they could get married at any moment but she's choosing not to because this is what she believes in.

      Perez-

Honestly, look up the definition for articulate. She's far from articulate, lol.

    37. 37

      lurve you Sarah!!!!! xo

    38. 38

UM, People getting married are not the one's who have come up with these laws, so I fail to see how getting married would make you a part of any "club". That imo is ridiculous and stereotyping everyone that gets married as being against gay rights.

      Gays CAN marry.
      Almost Everywhere Else.
