The White Stripes Are PISSED At The Air Force!
And rightly so!
On Super Bowl Sunday, an ad for the Air Force used music that suspiciously sounded like The White Stripes song Fell In Love With A Girl. Having had this ad brought to their attention, the Stripes and their management are royally pissed off and have released a statement, announcing their intention to take action to stop the song running in the ad. The statement reads:
WE BELIEVE OUR SONG WAS RE-RECORDED AND USED WITHOUT PERMISSION OF THE WHITE STRIPES, OUR PUBLISHERS, LABEL OR MANAGEMENT.
THE WHITE STRIPES TAKE STRONG INSULT AND OBJECTION TO THE AIR FOCE RESERVES PRESENTING THIS ADVERTISEMENT WITH THE IMPLICATION THAT WE LICENSED ONE OF OUR SONGS TO ENCOURAGE RECRUITMENT DURING A WAR THAT WE DO NOT SUPPORT.
THE WHITE STRIPES SUPPORT THIS NATION’S MILITARY, AT HOME AND DURING TIMES WHEN OUR COUNTRY NEEDS AND DEPENDS ON THEM. WE SIMPLY DON’T WANT TO BE A COG IN THE WHEEL OF THE CURRENT CONFLICT AND HOPE FOR A SAVE AND SPEEDY RETURN HOME FOR OUR TROOPS.
WE HAVE NOT LICENSED THIS SONG TO THE AIR FORCE RESERVE AND WE PLAN TO TAK STRONG ACTION TO STOP THE AD CONTAINING THIS MUSIC.
Listen to the song and then CLICK HERE to see the Air Force Reserve ad.
Thoughts?

how dare they? i hope jack and meg nail their asses to the wall and get tons of money from them. think they can do whatever they want, whenever they want. pigs.
I must be retarded or something, because I can't find the commercial on the Air Force website..
just because it's the air force doesn't make it right … F war and republicans! typical patriotic american screaming 'usa, usa' … dumb white trash embarrasses me that i am from here
let's hope this is not the actual statement, as the mistakes in it are obvious and laughable…
l
l
oh, fuck off doucheband- blahblahblah… 'cog in the wheel' hilarious statement like you or your song is so fucking relevant - dont think so…
l
l
l
oh PLEASE what LIARS-
"we support our troops' NO YOU FUCKING DONT.
this was not a pro-war ad, it had nothing to do with that it was specifically about the air force. . . it is a slap in the face of every person whose serving in condtions they probably arent enjoying that much- HOW DARE meg and jack, comfortable in their private jets witht heir model significant others and cushy mansions, take offense to being in any way connected to honest people serving our country??
THAT IS IT- No more white stripes albums for me- (and i am a big fan who loved their entire last album, specifically "conquest") anymore. FUCK THEM.
Re: MelissaGirl – Ugh, I felt that way too. Click on News & Events at the bottom–>Public Service Spots; I believe it's the Live the Extreme 2009 video.
Re: Lisa W a Lil L – exactly. they should be on their knees thanking the airforce for putting their decade old song on anaything at all. theyve grown increasingly irrelevent, and half of their "fans" only know "seven-nation army" (and NOTHING ELSE AT ALL.) so arrogant and such an asshole move. . . shut the fuck up and stick to what you know best, meg- methodically tapping one beat on a drum while jack does all the work. pathetic.
You know what, i can see the whole using it without permission thing but FUCk the white stripes. How can you support the troops but leave a statement like that. It is the recruiting that builds our military and that gives these dumb fucks the freedom to write such a fucked statement. OH AND IF YOU DONT LIKE THE FUCKING WAR AND DONT SUPPORT THE TROOPS THEN GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE COUNTRY OR CHANGE IT. DO NOT SAY THAT REPUBLICANS ARE TO BLAME WHEN OBAMA JUST SENT 30,000 MORE TROOPS. FUCKING IDIOTS THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE. LEAVE
Re: Lisa W a Lil L –
it's ironic, irrelevance in the form of a relevant influential band, or some little kid who just loves sarah palin and lil wayne. kudos to you on th massive douchebaggery.
governments seem to think they are immune to common laws they are to enforce…
MGMT- and President Sarkozy too.
Re: JayRock – If thats the one then it doesnt sound ANYthing like it.
But I couldnt find anything else on the site that did either.
Another case of trying to stay relevant by suing for copyright infringement…. ugh
does their statement have the same spelling mistakes?
the white stripes are welcome for their freedom. i think it's completely disrespectful that they would react this way.
Anyone who knows anything about music knows that Jack White was recently named one of the most defining/influential musicians of the past decade AND the #17 in the WORLD as far as best guitar players. He is amazing and has EVERY right to protect HIS music and HIS rights! Our government thinks they can do whatever they want whenever they want and I hope Jack & Meg White sue the shit out of them…they have SOME nerve. So do the posters like Lisa W who obviously knows NOTHING
An add to join the air-force is in no way a "we support our troops" ad, its a way to get people to be troops. Jesus. Let them be upset they created the song. Its a plausible reason to be frustrated and I don't think they are bashing any part of the army or the great people who in it!
How dare they? I wonder what they would say if they were on a U.S. flight that was being taken over by terrorists? Wouldn't they appreciate the Air Force then?! They should be asahmed of themselves!
How dare they? I wonder what they'd think if a plane they were on were being taken over by terrorists…I bet they'd appreciate the Air Force then! They should be ashamed of themselves!
I take strong insult and objection to that bitch who calls herself a drummer. My brother is in the airforce, serving our country, and if you don't like the country then get the fuck out-O wait-you are rich and famous and living off of royalties made from normal people who do normal things like join the air force. Why would you want to leave? God I want to fucking smack them.
People who say they don't support the troops because they disagree with the war, are stupid monkeys. They don't want them losing their lives over a LIE. The ones that don't support the troops are the dummies cheering on the war allowing 22 yr olds to go and get killed, for Nothing.
The two are quite similar. It can be argued that they just have similar chords. This reminds me of Vanilla Ice and the Under Pressure sampling. The Air Force should just come out already before they damage themselves further. If people are going to flame Black Eyed Peas for plagiarism, they have equal right to flame the marketers over at the Air Force.
Also, I understand the sentiment of not agreeing with the war, but they could have phrased their statement better since it's not fair to the soldiers to not support them.
Support the troops not the war!
THIS IS NOT OKAY!!! Poor White Stripes. They are doing the right thing.
So they are getting mad at a division of the military that is protecting their freedom to make music without restrictions…wow. That's low. As an Air Force wife I guess I'll no longer be supporting the White Stripes. Get over yourselves White Stripes.
Re: jengaholiday – AGREED
Re: flamingred – no one ever said they didn't appreciate your brother…stick to the facts and chill out…
The White Stripes have a HUGE fan base and all of their shows sell out I don't think they could care less if some of you stop buying their albums…this is THEIR work and they are protecting it just like ANY OF YOU WOULD IF YOU HAD WRITTEN THE SONG SO SHUT UP!
Fuck the White Stripes!
using music without paying for it is illegal .. but this crap about 'supporting the troops' but not supporting what troops DO is ridiculous. keep the foolish politics out of it and just sue for use of the song.
LOL, the airforce isn't protecting us from a goddamn thing. Where were they on 9/11?
You repukes and your silly military fetishes are always good for a laugh.
Cant find the ad on the airforce site now, they have removed it… but the song sucks anyway.. but regardless it's what we have copywrite laws for…. Protect your creation, then the airforce can come and destroy it.. lmao. how ironic.
the government does not own every piece of work product that each of us as individuals produce. they have no right to steal other people's intellectual property to use to recruit people into their wars. jack and meg have every right to sue them to retain the rights of their work product.
perez, your site is SWIMMING with typos. how are we supposed to take you seriously with this? lol.
Re: bluephoenix – god, that is such simplistic thinking. it's not all about "the government can do whatever they like and steal from artists just because they tell us they are protecting us". please get some critical thinking skills. these artists have the right to sue someone who has stolen from them. they have the right to decide where and when their music is used.
grow up. mommy and daddy airforce/government don't necessarily always know what's best for you, you know. you could think for yourself.
didnt joss stone or whoever also sing this song? i heard that jack black needs to be hypnotized or else he cant sing. where do we click to hear the air force version?
The ignorance of citizens in this country amazes me. I believe it's wrong to use a group's song without permission, so they should of course remove it from any promotion/recruitment videos. However, the White Stripes bringing their whole political views of war into the issue is just ignorant. No where was this a pro war video…it was a recruitment video! It saddens me to hear what citizens of our country say about the troops, the war, etc. You would not have the rights you have today if it were not for our troops, for wars, or for patriotic americans. What would you do if you were in a terrorist attack?!? I guarentee you would not have the courage and strength that our military forces have. Yet, you would ask where they were at if something happened. My husband spent over a year in Iraq, received a Purple Heart for being injured in an ambush, and suffers from severe PTSD after willingly and voluntarily serving this country and serving for each and every citizens freedoms…to see the foolish things people are writing about our troops is so disturbing and to think these kinds of people can call themselves Americans.
Is it really necessary to use capitals?!
Feels like I am chanting, when I am actually reading in my mind (excuse my english :p).
Alright well I mean those who say Jack White is irrelevant have never heard of The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather or the film "This might get loud" so please check them out.
Also I'm pretty sure his statement was very fair and very very respectful to troops serving for the US. If you read the statement again you'll notice they are against the WAR.
You wouldn't want your work to be used for something you don't support…would you?
Yes girlnextdoor, the ignorance of citizens in this country also amazes me! So when somebody makes it big in music or hollywood they should lose their political voice? How silly. If this was some rightwing douchebag you'd have soiled your panties. Sorry about your husband. Maybe you should call up wall street and voice your displeasure, because that's who he is serving.
Re: Jonze – A M E N
Of course the White Stripes have a right to be upset! It has NOTHING to do with supporting or not supporting troops. It has to do with copyright. God some of you people are beyond retarded.
That's great…we're in a war that was and is illegitimate in every way, and some of you are pissed because people don't support it? that blows me away. Did you forget all the people who worked for Bush that have admitted it was a bad idea???? And I LOVE the statements about how the air force/army/other military are protecting us. Not in Iraq, they're not! We don't belong there and never did. We could attack the moon and there would still be jackasses shouting about if you don't support our troops you should stand in front of them. Jeez.Talk about blind followers. HELLLLOOOOOO!!!
Jack and Meg have every right for the music they made to be used in ways that they support and are asked permission for. It's copyright infringement folks and many many people have had record companies and ISP breathing down their necks about it so fuck you military, you gotta abide the rules too. and dont give me that "you should be on your knees thanking the brave blah blah blah.." I dont want to hear it, they are not fighting for anything other than money. They are not fighting for any of the freedoms that I personally enjoy so when the Marijuana War happens, I'll be on the military side. Say thank you to the people in the military? HA. That was their CHOICE. it doesn't have anything to do with relevancy or how old that song is, its not the airforces to use.
The White Stripes have every right to be upset. The Air Force Reserved is not above the law in anyway. This should be treat as any other case of copyright infringement. The Stripes brought up that they support the military only because there are some people out there that would say they're only do this because "they don't support the troops." They were just covering all bases.
The White Stripes. Irrelevant and boring.
^ Says the Lopez fan. I see a lot more innovation and progress in Jack White then with Lopez.
Re: lopezfanyeah –
You Re: lopezfanyeah – Dumb.
You wish McCarthy!
Seems like there are two issues boiling with this story:
1) The unauthorized use of their song for an ad campaign, which the White Stripes are justified for being upset about.
2) The ranting about "THIS WAR WE DON"T SUPPORT!"
The latter is being parroted by several people in the comments, I see. Which war? Iraq? Yes, it was a terrible decision executed in a terrible manner, but you guys do know that's winding down, right? We have an agreement to end combat operations by the end of August and withdrawal by the end of next year.
So is it Afghanistan, then? The war President Obama expanded in order to not lose outright? Well, most people I know supported the premise for that one in order to destroy Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. People seem to be turning against it now that things are getting tough. Nice backbones, folks.
Ranting about "RAWRRR ILLEGAL WARBUSHCHENEYOILGUANTANAMO RAWRR" just makes you look silly as there's an entirely new Administration in charge of the war(s), one I suspect Jack and Meg were gung-ho about in November, 2008.
The military does not make policy, people. They carry out missions directed by the people you elect. Going off on the Air Force Reserve about wars you disagree with is missing the target and is, in fact, attacking the troops you claim to "support."
Re: KanyeGayfish –
Feel better?
Hi All, I tried finding the ad too, but it's not there. Anyways, I'm going to try to calm down, but I too am fuming about the statement The White Stripes made. Geez, no one likes war. To think that our service men and women are fighting for us to be free (and are getting injured and hurt), how dare they say what they did in their statement. I get it, the copyright thing, but get real, you either support our Troops or you don't. If you don't, then that's your thing, White Stripes. In the grand scheme of things, White Stripes, with that statement, you are a "cog in the wheel". So shutup and be thankful that you have such a caring and selfless military ( and their families too!) that dedicate their lives for YOU to live in a free country. Suck that, Stripes!
All of you people are bitching about how Meg and Jack are sitting around comfortable on their jets or with their money….and blah blah blah. So what? You people are sitting around your computers, fucking warm, are you supporting the troops? Meg and Jack donate to various charities, they have even played for the troops. But just because they do not support a particular conflict overseas, does not make them assholes. Shit, I don't support the conflict, but if there was reason to go to war, say like, another 9/11, then I'd support it. They aren't selfish, they work hard to make themselves different from most bands, and they just don't want their music associated with something they don't believe in. How would you like it if somehow your face was associated with genocide? Exactly.
Re: lopezfanyeah – lopezfanyeah = no one cares
Re: KanyeGayfish – Bottom line…over 4,600 DEAD. PERIOD.
You make a good point, AbsurdApple. It's true they have a right to say what they want and that's cool if they donate to charities. You said that we are just sitting around warm at our computers (that was right!) and implied not supporting our troops…how do you know if our families and friends were or are currently in the military? It takes a special type of person to serve our country. I'm glad I am warm and not there.
So when I read that White Stripes statement, I got so passionate about it. I had a great friend that died after the Iraq war in the '90s. I just want to honor him and the others who serve so that we don't have to endure anything like that here in the U.S. That was a good point too (AbsurdApple), thanks.
Re: LusciousLiz –
That doesn't address the point I made at all. Simplistic, knee-jerk statements like that regarding an extremely complex issue are exactly what's wrong with the debate - and the statement issued by Jack and Meg. 4600 deaths. Many, many more on the other side - insurgent and civilian. That's what happens in every conflict and is the reason you make damn sure it's necessary before you embark on military action. Are you talking about Iraq, Afghanistan, or both? They are two separate wars with completely different aims. Are you saying there was no justification for intervention in Afghanistan in 2001 to root out Al-Qaeda and unseat the Taliban? If so, many countries disagreed with you. Even Russia sent support troops to help there.
Iraq was a foolish war of conquest to install a friendly government in a strategic region. When people scream about opposing "THE WAR" they don't seem to bother specifying which one in their argument.
too bad that song is already a fucking ripoff of "last dance with mary jane" by tom petty! im obviously not a musical genuis, but that "nah nah nah nah nah nah" (before "fell in love with a girl") part sounds just like the guitar riffs in "last dance." anyway i dont think this is anything political, the white stripes are just trying to get paid!
"THE WHITE STRIPES SUPPORT THIS NATION’S MILITARY, AT HOME AND DURING TIMES WHEN OUR COUNTRY NEEDS
"
"needs" is the critical word there.
just because they don't agree with the current conflict dosn't mean the hate their country….
Holy! Some of you commentators really love drinking the koolaid! I keep seeing over and over again, fighting for OUR freedom! Are you seriously retarded? I guess the republican indoctrination has worked really well, as people in Iraq were such a big threat to people in the US? No soldier that has served in the last 20 years has `fought for your freedom`. The last relevant war (at least to Americans) that was fought was WW2. The Korean, Vietnamese, and Iraqi wars were all fought to either protect or benefit American interests , they had nothing to do with `freedom`, except maybe the freedom to savagely rape and kill some more indigenous people. Wake up people. As for Jack White, the guy is pretty close to a creative genius and has every right to sue for the illegal use of his creation in ways that he disagrees with. Why can the government use its courtrooms to help corrupt entities like the RIAA to sue individual users for downloading music illegally (which most of you sheep probably agree with), but then turn around and use someone else`s work for their own purposes?
Re: Jonze – you're an asshole!
Re: Los Anjealous – …That doesn't even make sense. Sky Marshalls aren't in the Air Force. Duh.
The white stripes should be happys someone is still playing their music..oh and by the way, good luck in court against the government!!! LOL SUCKERS!
The white stripes should be happy someone is still playing their music..oh and by the way, good luck in court against the government!!! LOL SUCKERS!
Re: teabagger –
Happy someone is playing their music? You obviously do not follow the White Stripes. Jack White has made a name for himself, and even has several Grammy's for it. Ever hear of Loretta Lynn? Not to mention that he has two other bands, The Deadweather and The Raconteurs. So, I fail to see your point. The Raconteurs were the band that played all through the Academy Awards last year. So yeah, maybe people have forgotten about The White Stripes, but Jack White is fucking making a name for himself.
Re: KanyeGayfish – in my opinion they are all foolish but yes, sometimes necessary. The White Stripes OWN that music and they have a right to their own opinion just like you & I
Re: teabagger – ummm actually LOTS of people still buy their music and their shows sell out everytime….NEXT
Re: tigrrrlilly –
take your prozac before I bitch slap you
Re: MikesCarWash – bring it on, mike. you don't scare me.
