America loves their Ellen DeGeneres!

American Idol saw a 12 percent rise in the ratings since it moved to Hollywood last night and featured new judge Ellen DeGeneres. The show drew in 27.7 million viewers — the most viewers it had since the January premiere!

      LOVED HER! How funny was she when she asked the contestants, (wo were all going through) to move back, forward, to the left, etc. She fills a void that's been missing with AI judges, comedy. I also love that she's kind, yet firm when need be. Knew she'd do well, but didn't expect her to do that well! Viva la Ellen!

      I thought she did great. I wish everyone would quit bitching about her. She's definitely one of the reasons I keep watching.

      i think most of the 12% rise was because it was hollywood week, not because ellen was on.

      I do not watch anymore, Ellen will just dumb down this show more but there are plenty of dumb people that will watch this junk…..

      Ellen was BETTER than I thought she would be. She isn't a muscian, but she understands entertainment and performing. She was tougher than I thought she would be and actually gave some constructive ideas to the singers. I like Paula, but her space-cadet-sweet act was getting old. Ellen is funny too, unlike the other judges. I never have watched her talk show, but I do like her as a AI judge.

      I love Ellen, but I hated the beginning of Hollywood week and I don't think they utilized her at all. The women is funny they need to use it.

      LOVE ELLEN! LOVE HER MORE ON AI. Not to mention - did anyone else notice how little Kara spoke last night? LOVE IT! If Ellen is the reason - I hope Kara shuts up the rest of the season - who needs her anyway? Keep ELLEN - dump KARA!

      Really, who thought it would be a good idea to put Ellen DeGeneres in as an AI judge? The only thing she knows about singing is what puts her to sleep. The only thing worse is going to be Howard Stern, he is only going to like the people that give him a tent in his pants.

      I do not watch the show for the "judges". So I am not watching the show right now. Once they start the contest, then I will tune in to see if anyone is any good. But Ellen shouldn't be a judge, she isn't a singer, so what good is she. Also get rid of that Kara…HATE HER!

      I'm not so sure Idol needs a comedy show with Ellen indulging herself every time she speaks. I'll keep watching but so far I don't think she's right.

      Huge snow storms in the east may have kept people at home watching t.v., as well - Not just Ellen.

      Snowstorms across the East were responsible for cancellations and closings, so the increased viewership Of AI may have been partly due to the heavy snow

      I don't think we need the "average person's" opinion. That is why WE vote later into the season on Idol. They really need a music industry vet serving as Judge. If the Fox suits love Ellen so much, give her Ryan's job. She's a great host.

      Ellen somehow makes me uneasy…there's something very disconcerting and dark behind those big baby blues. It's as if she's sold her soul to the devil. "Okay, Mr. D…let me be the most famous lesbian on earth and have everything that comes out of my mouth be hilarious. Give me unbreachable confidence and a funny, beautiful, blonde, actress wife who will always have a job. Make me Oprah Winfrey's heir apparent and a judge on the most popular TV show ever. We'll take a meeting in Hell when it's over".

      I CAN'T STAND HER!!!!!!! She looks very out of place on that panel and she knows it! Another Leno greedy move on her part because she can't stand it when she's not in all media forms. It makes me PUKE that she has to have all the attention all the time. Fuck her with a sharp stick!!!!!

      There are already three judges with solid experience in the industry. Ellen did an outstanding job. She didnt run in there flapping her jaw with criticism she is not equipped to be dishing out. The truth is that Ellen brings a much needed balance to the show. She knows entertainment and stage presence like no other. They are given checklists on what to look for on the performers, so
      it is actually a no brainer as far as the actual judging process. Do they remember the lyrics, were they feeling the music, did they engage the crowd. Ellen is fantastic, she has the personality to liven up the show. Really, she can't do much worse than Paula who clapped a majority of the time and thought everyone was great. Ellen is very likeable person and is great for american idol, Period.
