Could Heartbreak Have Played A Role In McQueen's Death?

Although we'll never know for sure, could a recent breakup have played a role in fashion designer Alexander McQueen's decision to take his own life?
In an interview with Harper's Bazaar Australia, McQueen revealed he had tattooed the name of a former lover who left the legendary designer heartbroken.
Said McQueen: "[He was] a bastard who went back to Australia and I was left looking at his name."
Still such a tragedy.

Don't think it's a good idea to speculate! Unless he left a note that specifically said why he ended his life it isn't right to guess! He left behind many family and friends that don't deserve to be blamed for this!

Bless his heart. I personally think it was a combination of factors. Losing a lover is hard, but losing your mother is a damned nightmare. I hope he is finally at peace, making angels look Fabuuuuulousss!

Whenever I hear about a rich, successful celeb (etc) taking their own life. I often think of my own life, and all I have survived. It makes me really think that I am a stronger person than I think I am.
he had a boyfriend. i think he was over that. his mothers death was the end for him. he had said before that outliving her was his biggest fear.

McQueen hung himself on the eve of his mother's funeral. He had been tweeting about the pain and the emptiness he felt about loosing his mum. Clearly he was trying to find the courage to carry on, it was too hard.This had nothing to do with a gay lover Perez. It had everything to do with loosing his beloved mother, to whom he was very, very close.

Problem is, you can't blame him for taking that (bad) decision. Every people have different capacities in facing problems; some are strong and refuse to lose, but some are more sensitive. McQueen is a homosexual, probably he was bullied and teased for being different–in other words, he probably grew up in a tough situation that affected his mental and courage. Trust me, nobody in their right mind wants to die–thing is, they focus on the present and think that there's no future ahead. The only thing I regret is that nobody realized that he was in a severe situation, and nobody was there to help him.

Couldn't Lee have at least waited until after his mother's funeral to kill himself?! I feel bad for his family that didn't get the chance to give his Mom a proper goodbye before dealing with his awful decision. I don't want to judge, but that sure seems selfish to me. It appears he didn't even seek professional help.
Oh, and how about all his employees that relied on him to make a paycheck in these difficult times? Someone was incredibly self absorbed, his decision really taints his legacy for me.

It wasn't his ex, it was due to the death of his Mother, who his ex husband, who he grew to be close to again after their divorce, said was his only friend. Hi suicide was nothing to do with an ex lover. The fashion world is very fickle, and a lot of his friends were simply 'party friends' he had no real friends or family at his own wedding, and after his Mother died, he took his own life because he felt he couldn't go on. Very sad

NOONE IS WORTH killing yourself over. Poor Alex! The cause was probably depression, though. There is no one to blame for suicide. It's a disease that distorts one's thinking.

I just can't fathom this, it seems so erratic and just, inconceivable that a grown man, with no known psychiatric history would take such severe action, such an irreversible, impulsive and narcissistic act. Its truly unfathomable. i mean, a grown man of 40 some odd years killing himself becauser his mother died is pretty bizarre. He had to imagine that his mother would not outlive him. The only way I would understand this is if he had been depressed already and this pushed him over the edge. The only other possible explanation is that he was so pathologically attached to his mother that he regressed this far, withrdrew from the outside world and the love of other family members and became like a bereft child. Either way, so totally senseless, and I agree with the people who should not wish him "godspeed" or "rest in peace." This is absolutely a senseless loss…
