Marriage Equality Activists Arrested In NYC!
Four marriage equality activists were arrested in New York on Friday morning after they chained themselves to the New York Marriage Bureau!!
Alan Bounville, Jake Goodman, Justin Elzie and Gabriel Yuri Bollag chained themselves to the building after they and over 20 other same-sex couples from activism group Queer Rising were denied marriage licenses by the Marriage Bureau.
To prove just how fucked up the whole situation is, a gay man and lesbian woman from the group then re-entered the Marriage Bureau and were able to receive approval for a marriage license!!!
Queer Rising spokesperson Super Spring says the group is adamant in building a "grassroots, national movement" in the fight for marriage equality, stating, "The bankrupt strategy of putting all efforts into electing so-called ‘friendly’ officials has failed."
"Today, through our symbolic marriage applications, rally and civil disobedience, that message was quite clear," concluded Spring.

I am sorry to say, but I don't think these type of actions are furthering the cause. Espcially in a state that is already on the verge of legalizng same sex marriage (most likely in the next couple of years).
The only way real change has ever happened in this country is through civil disobedience; by people standing and shouting that they're mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore. I think all of America needs to realize this before we get any change in health care or any repercussions for what the big banks did.
These people are heroes fighting for their rights and the rights of their people, I couldn't applaud them more! Bravo!
Great work! We deserve equality NOW! It will be legal soon enough because it is a CIVIL RIGHTS issue. It needs to be legalized FEDERALLY IN EVERY STATE! If you don't believe in gay marriage don't marry a gay person. It's that simple.
A lot of members of congress stuck their necks out for Obama only to see him fold like a cheap tent at crunch time.Obama essentially has the country in a lockdown because he could pull another jack in the box surprise at any time. I'm all for marriage equality, but seriously what did they think would happen if they went in there as two men or two women trying to get a marriage license, and then go back with a man in a woman, BIG DUH AWARD HERE! That's fine though, if they want to do this purposely to get arrested, that's their business. However: Why can't NY, a state that is so supposedly "foward", accept the fact that gays are a normalcy of life? What is so wrong about consenting adult of the same sex wanting to marry? I don't understand. Is it because it is considred "wrong" by laws and book written CENTURIES ago? There is NOTHING perverted or sick about loving a human of the same sex (and this from a straight person). I have absolutely no issue with same love but what I don't believe in is same sex MARRIAGE. They have no right to twist the meaning of a word to suit them, I think that they should create a term for same sex unity that has the same laws for marriage but they just call it something else. Marriage has been between a man and a woman since the beginning of time not only to religious people but to everyone else in the world. Its really wrong to twist that. Everyone is entitled to love and have a certain fairness in the world but just do it without fucking with everyone else's shit yaknow? I think if they attempted to call it something else it would go WAY smoother. Also, its not just about marriage. What about same sex divorce laws? If a same sex relationship is exactty like a hetro sexual relationship then you have to consider the split after marriage as well. Who gets what? What about the kids whether they be adopted or from a previous relationship. Visitation rights, who gets the money, who gets the house, who gets child support, who gets spousal support? Its very difficult to define when there its not a man and a woman and is a man and a man or a woman and a woman. Homosexuals have to consider all of these things before they push for same sex marriage and I bet you the majority of them didn't. All they're thinking about is the NOW and not thinking about the big picture or about all the litigation that comes after. If they use a different term to define the same sex unity then all of this can be developed as well. -End-
What I'm thinking about is that it's MY life. I'm thinking about all the subtle, and blatent homophobia I've seen directed at me, and other gay men and women. For months now I've been reading nasty inhumane blogs on various sites from homophobic people that not only believe that we shouldn't be married, but (seemingly) would like us to be stoned to death. It's not that peaceful, but no one was injured either. There ARE terrorists in the world, and as I've pointed out, you conservatives are too lazy or clueless to figure out how to deal with them, so you deal with us instead. Why?
