The opening ceremony of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games killed it in the ratings on Friday.

NBC averaged about 34 million viewers that night, whereas the games in 2006 only had 22 million viewers.

The peacock finally did something right.

Congrats!

      Gotta love my Canada!!!

um, Don't you think the Opening Ceremonies have far more to do with the organizing committee and NOTHING to do with NBC? Come on now, get your head out of your ass.

    3. 3

The Peacock had nothing to do with it!

It was Canada and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games that deserve all the credit!

      Go Canada Go!!!!!!!!

Don't you think the ratings have far more to do with the Olympic Organizing Committee and far less to do with NBC? Come on now!

Gotta agree with the people on here… NBC had nothing to do really with the ratings, the kudos should go to the Olympic Committee for organizing a great opening ceremony and to Vancouver for all their work. This is totally a kudos to Canada- NBC should be thanking them for the ratings increase!! GO CANADA GO!!!

what can you say…..DEATH SELLS!!!!!hope you like your rating nbc.one life is a small price to pay for the millions of blood dollars that accident attracted….at least tell me your doing something for the family of the dead olympian…..he did save your asses.
harsh to say but it's the truth.

I'm sure it did well because the Bejing opening ceremony was so good that people expected a lot…HOWEVER…the Vancouver ceremony SUCKEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!

    10. 10

NBC had nothing to do with the ratings. It probably had to do with them being in Canada and the the mood of the American people due to the economy and the success of the 2008 Olympics.

      Sven Kramer!

    12. 12

Yeah, it all goes to the organizers.
Most people I know tuned in to see if it was the Great One who would light the torch, and luckily it was.

    13. 13

Nbc had everything to do with it,because it was smart enough to pay for the rights. Congrats nbc and Canadians are awesome says this American.

This is an example of what living in Canada is like. Canada is amazing and we don't have winter year round, we have hot summers too.

If you haven't learned yet…Canada is amazing!!! Go CANADA GO!!

      CANADA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    16. 16

I didn't like it. There are way more cultures in Canada than just natives.

    17. 17

It only took you three days to past this. Better than usual.

    18. 18

NBC? Really??? And I suppose that Vancouver had nothing to do with the opening ceremonies? Peacock be damned. No matter whose camera was pointed at the ceremonies…they rocked because Canada rocks! Kudos to the brilliantly talented people who organized and dreamed that production!

    19. 19

Agree with everyone else - nothing to do with the peacock, all to do with the Olympic Organizing Committee! Congrats on all their hard work and everyone involved!

whoever thinks beijing was better is retarded, they fabricated everything.. at least vancouver actually had some LIVE singing. it seems everyone forgets that in china all the performances had been lip synched. NBC had absolutely nothing to do with anything perez… how about you give Vancouver or Canada some credit?

    21. 21

Opening ceremonies were boring and uninspiring but I watched anyway because after all it's the Olympics. I watched for all the athletes who have worked so hard to get there.

    22. 22

Re: ashleighlovesperez – took the words right from me..

ummmm what? I know its already been stated but I'm actually offended by this. NBC had NOTHING to do with the opening ceremonies, other then buying the rights to air them in the states. It was planned and put on by Canada and its Olympic committees. Not NBC.

    24. 24

      vancouver for the win bitches

    25. 25

What an ignorant thing to say! I know lots of people that worked so hard on the opening ceremonies!! Day and night they worked tirelessly to make sure it was as memorable as it was. NBC had absolutely nothing to do with it, at all. They didn't pour millions of dollars into one night. How dare you give them the credit for the hard work our canadians did. What a typical american thing to do, take the credit for something that CLEARLY had nothing to do with them.

    26. 26

wow, that's kinda unbelievable b/c the Beijing opening ceremonies were about 10x more amazing than Vancouvers…but i bet it has to do with the time change. we had to watch the Beijing opening about 12 hours after they actually happened so some people probably just watched online instead of tv.

    27. 27

whos actually watching this crap? its a waste

    28. 28

      Re: poorlittlerichiegirl

Waste of what? Its the worlds best athletes competing. Competition at its best. These athletes train their whole lives for this moment. Of course theres going to be the simple minded people who miss their regular programmed cartoons like family guy though. Cant work your mind too much, you should go to youtube if you want to hear fart jokes.

    29. 29

      different time zone.

    30. 30

Re: MidnightsPink – yes but the natives are the only natives! to the country.

    31. 31

      GO TEAM CANADA!!!!!!

    32. 32

Opening ceremonies were stupid!!! Yeah… Hug a tree real tight, dance around with a bunch of feathers on your head. Why couldn't they had a bunch of lumberjacks drinking Labatts? I'm sorry but China rocked the summer Olympics and Canada merely murdered the winter Olympics.

    33. 33

Re: para~noir – Yes that is true… I was just hoping they would show all the cultures that are here now.

    34. 34

NBC has NOTHING to do with it. CTV was the original sponser, and considering its Canadian. More people tune into NBC because its American, plus Canadians get that channel too. ( I watched it on CTV )
anyways. i DO agree, as a Canadian, they had WAYY too much Native stuff going on…it was awkward. BUT i do think its cool that they added the natives in, because the land is originally the natives, but they went a little overboard on that part.

but other than that, i love it!

    35. 35

      GI CANADA!

    36. 36

i didn't really like the ceremony that much. everything was all native- wtf they only take up like 2 percent of the population. :|
(please dont quote me on that statistic lol )

    37. 37

      [re=4760628]Re: Alison :)

    38. 38

boooo to all you haters!! everything was mostly FIRST NATIONS based cause Canada takes pride in our Aborigional peoples :) and if you've never been, maybe you should consider booking a flight across the border, stat. And get a little educated. NO theres not like 2% First Nations population, add a zero to that number… and it's Booming so keep counting. being one of those 20+ percent, i gotta say…i love my country. GO CANADA, EFF YAA!!
