Surprise! Surprise!
According to state and federal records, The Brittany Murphy Foundation is not technically a charity.
Although it has been touted as a nonprofit organization dedicated to arts education for kiddies, the "foundation" is not registered as a charity with the IRS or the state of California, which is required by law.
And it's also supposed to disclose that it is not registered as a nonprofit considering they're soliciting $$$$$ on their website!
Once again, Simon Monjack is super sketch!

A charity is NOT the same thing as a non profit organization. You can't even register as a non profit as far as I know.

FURTHERMORE, If he just started the foundation after BM died, then it is understandable that he is not a registered charity yet, as it takes a while for the paperwork to go through, sometimes up to 6 months.

it doesnt say that they arent going to register it. paperwork takes time. its very easy to say 'im going to launch a charity' its a bit more work to actually get it all done.

Re: annabanana182 – I don't know what you're on about but you have to register a nonprofit as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit org. So yes, you can and generally have to.

A lot of "charities" are not registered as 501c3's, usually some unmet requirement or just laziness in going through all the paperwork etc. It could be registered under another name also or still be going through the process… I'm curious what this situation is but it doesn't mean the foundation is a phony. But what do I know. Go ahead and hate without knowing the facts. As usual.

If anyone is wondering why a beautiful and talented woman like Brittany Murphy married and continued to stay married to an ugly, overweight, Hollywood failure like Simon Monjack, the answer is simple: prescription medication. Personally I know of a few people who abuse their meds and it literally turns them into people they are not and never wanted to be, and like alcoholics they start to depend on others to take care of them which also makes them easy prey for con men like Monjack. Imagine telling Brittany during the Ashton years that she would get hooked on meds to the point that she would end up married to a fat, no talent hack like Monjack who helped her stay addicted just so her head would stay in the clouds so she wouldn't think about leaving him for a man she actually loved and was attracted to…I bet she would've never even taken as much as a Tylenol ever again.
The mother and him were on Larry King and I'm not too sure about any of this either way… Seeing both sides, it's difficult to figure out all of this.. The pre-lim autopsy didn't exactly say she died of anything that wouldn't kill an average person..
