John Hughes To Receive Special Tribute At Oscars

johnhugheswenn5333391.jpg

Instead of being just absentmindedly thrown in the mix of other deceased motion pictures greats lost this year in the annual video montage, John Hughes is getting a special and separate tribute.

Since hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin both had the pleasure of working with John in the 80s, it is believe that they, as well as some other cast members from classic John Hughes' films, will contribute to the presentation.

No offense, but this sounds like it will just make the telecast LONGER. We love his movies too, but is that really necessary?

completely necessary. his films shaped a generation.

    2. 2

You continue to breath. Is THAT really necessary?

    3. 3

      Yes! Necessary!

    4. 4

Definitely necessary. He defined what a true teen flick is - anything since has been fluff.

    5. 5

John Hughes defined a whole generation of teenagers. Whether you were preppy, nerdy, a bad boy or even an 8 yearold kid left behind by his parents, he was one of the most prolific directors of the 80's and early 90's and of all time. There were also so many spoofs of his movies! He will be missed and his movies will stand the test of time! We miss you John!

    6. 6

John Hughes, made a lot of fun loving movies, and out of these movies came a great deal of GRATEFUL "stars".

    7. 7

Yes you douche bag. It is necessary.

    8. 8

A life is lost…one that touched many other lives in a positive way, and you whine about it making the oscars longer? Then what are the Oscars for if not to shine a spotlight on those who entertain us? Shame on you.

    9. 9

Hollywood is the most self-congratulatory place on the planet, from the phony tears, to people like Julia roberts pretending to be so stunned at their win that they can't really talk….if they are going to waste our time with THAT bullshit then yeah, I'd much rather see a tribute to John Hughes than Gwenyth Paltrow getting up there and pretending to cry again.

    10. 10

      Oh, shut up, Mario!

    11. 11

In three paragraphs only you manage to contradict yourself. Way to go!

    12. 12

Is it necessary to have Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin hosting the Oscars? I will make it a point not to watch.

    13. 13

It is completely necessary. Why are you such a scumbag?

    14. 14

uhm, didn't michael jackson's tribute make the grammy's longer???? I feel more about Hughe's movies than MJ's music. It is always too bad that we have to wait for someone to die before we honor them…. people should not have to go to their grave feeling without being thanked for bringing joy to someone's life. too much hate around, too much put downs, criticizes, that mean's you mario/whoever you are.

    15. 15

This is the kind of thing they SHOULD have on the Oscars! He was an integral part of the business.

    16. 16

yes you jackass it is necessary….its not necessary for me to come to your site, as your BS gets longer and longer I still show up everyday

    17. 17

      Yes, it is.

    18. 18

Damn Perez do you really have to ask? 3 additional minutes won't kill you.

    19. 19

Yes, it is.now shut the fuck up.

    20. 20

Perez, you are such an Ignorant Prick!
John Hughes brought us dozens of films that built
our generation. He, if anyone else, is the most worthy of
receiving an award for all of the hard work, and his ingenious ideas.
He passed away, UNEXPECTEDLY last summer, and I have not yet seen one moment in his memory, besides TCM honoring him by airing Ferris Bueller last month.

We will never again, have another writer like John Hughes. Thanks for all of these one-of-a-kind films. Rest In Peace.

    21. 21

      wow. how insensitive.

    22. 22

Oh Perez - the shit you don't know……. John Hughes is a legend!

    23. 23

      Re: Spindoc – AMEN!!!

    24. 24

      Yes this IS necessary!

      It's about time.

      He is missed.

    25. 25

      TOTALLY necessary!

    26. 26

      absolutely yes you pussblister!!

    27. 27

yes, mario it is very necessary. i can't believe as a person that grew up in the 80's that you feel the need to question anything about this. it seems as if something doesn't have to do with r-patz, zefron or your precious gagaloo it is deemed lame, worthless or unnecessary. please contact john hughes' family and let THEM know how you feel about this.

    28. 28

Fucking BRILLIANT! A big part of the X-Generation died when he died far too young. That was a VERY sad day for me…..But he was timeless and immortal anyway.. If you need a reminder why, watch "16 Candles" AGAIN…. aaahhhhhhh….so amazing!

    29. 29

Yes Perez. Yes, it is necessary.

    30. 30

Considering what he did for the 80's and teens and movies? Hell yeah. How about they get rid of the shitty showtune bits?

    31. 31

Jesus christ, did you overdose on your douchebag pills this morning? First the youtube vid practically begging people to torment a kid that I am guessing is special needs and now complaining that the Oscars want to add a couple of minutes to their telecast to honor the passing of one of the most prolific directors of the 80's. God damn, buy some midol and log the fuck off until you feel better, cockwad.

    32. 32

STFU - yes it is necessary!

    33. 33

He created a number of teen films that are considered "modern classics" so yes. I believe it is necessary.

    34. 34

Perez, sometimes you're right on, but sometimes you're way the heck off. JOhn Hughes is by many people considered a genius, a generation definer. By all means he deserves a nod. If it takes five minutes, who cares. It is nothing when compared to the amount of inspiration and wonderful work he contributed to a lot of us children of the 80's.

    35. 35

Ugh.. Perez. Sometimes I dig your taste… sometimes you're just icky. TOTALLY necessary!

    36. 36

Hell yeah it is necessary! John Hughes defined a generation. He did more than make a few films. He touched the lives of teenagers in a way, and at a time, that no other in Hollywood had ever had. It's called substance, Mario. It's called class. It's called depth and social insight.
      _______
It's everything what you bring to THIS generation is NOT.

I didn't hear you bitching about an Michael Jackson tribute? Doesn't everyone who made an impact, whether in film or music, deserve to be honored? If Gaga was taking part in the tribute, you'd be all for it. You're simply pathetic.

    38. 38

It's absolutely necessary. As said, his movies did define a generation, and due to his passing in 2009, I think it is well deserved.

    39. 39

Absolutely necessary. Every teen movie (whether spoof or not) was done in reflection of his. Don't like it, don't watch it.

    40. 40

Yes Mr. Perez it is absolutely necessary! This man's movies were life changing and gave a voice to a generation that had no voice. Who gives a shit if the ceremony is a little bit longer?

    41. 41

FU Mario, u got some nerve. he had an AMAZING pulse on the times and generation.

      42

I guess it's who you know. More accomplished have gotten less, but who minds giving John Hughes (RIP) an extra nod when it comes right down to it. Respect.

      43

Nice, but not necessary when you consider other people on the obit list. Also, as you reported, performers of nominated songs aren't allowed their place in the sun.

    44. 44

Whether or not it makes the telecast longer, it needs to be done. His movies influenced and shaped a generation. Shut up, Perez.

    45. 45

You inbred Cuban fucksticks wouldn't know about his contributions — now would you?

    46. 46

I wonder if you and your family would be concerned about the additional time it would take to memorialize you at an industry event.

    47. 47

omg perez, OF COURSE this is necessary! John Hughes totally sculpted a genre of highly creative movies that are timeless cult classics. A tribute is rightfully deserved. He changed the face of Hollywood!

    48. 48

Wow, I wish there was something to make your useless prick LONGER, so you would stick it in your mouth and shut the fuck up. DIPSHIT.

    49. 49

He's an ICON. You can show a still photo from at least 5 of his films and I will bet you 90% of Americans could identify the name of the film and John Hughes as well! His films stood the test of time. I shared BREAKFAST CLUB with my daughter and her friends 10 years ago and they went nuts for it. They will be passing his films around for decades to come. Since he died rather suddenly and rather early in his life, why not honor the man?? You pissy because he didn't do a GAY BREAKFAST VERSION>?

    50. 50

Yes - it is absolutely necessary. John Hughes made a tremendous impact on our pop culture. His movies said something about youth, about music and about who we were at that point in time. Films that were made more than 20 years ago are still influencing what we see today and how we see it. So - YES - they should pay tribute to him. Remember what Ferris said: "Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." So, we should pause…and remember John.

    51. 51

      you.have.no.clue.

    52. 52

dumbass, just say you don't care instead of trying to be sweet about it.
you don't give a shit about him or his movies obvio.
it's completley necessary, so many people ahev been touched by his films, and he has made so many movies that defined that generation.
Why would you even ask that?

    53. 53

after reading some of the comments on this story, I think I can safely say, that you are an idiot for even thinking the words "is that really necessary?"
It is absolutely necessary, he was one of the most influential directors of all time. His movies shaped an entire generation, and will continue to do so for years to come. He is GREATLY missed. Well, apparently not by all of us.

    54. 54

Uh…he's not the only important person in the motion picture industry who has died, so no, I don't see why it's necessary to place this one person on a pedestal above everyone else. Think of the many legends who have died recently who didn't get their own separate tribute. No disrespect to Hughes or his memory because he definitely made a huge mark on pop culture, but he wasn't the only one…

    55. 55

      Re: lugene
      go to hell!

    56. 56

      PixiePeet, I'm already there. It's called perezhilton.com

    57. 57

why not? if the oscars are too long-winded for you then don't watch it!

    58. 58

His movies have inspired most of the current writers/actors in the film industry more so than most directors out there!!! So HELL YES!!!
