Golf Writers Boycotting Tiger's Press Conference

Sounds like they're taking one for the team!
As Tiger Woods prepares for his greatly awaited statement at this morning's press conference, he'll notice some familiar faces missing - those from the Golf Writers Association of America!
"This is a major story of international scope. To limit the ability of journalists to attend, listen, see and question Woods goes against the grain of everything we believe in," said president of the organization, Vartan Kupelian.
They will not be sending anyone to cover the event and in doing so, pretty much admitting that they're not real journalists.
They're probably just sick of this shiz already and looking for a way out!
You got it, fellas!

So don't come, who gives a dam!
In all honesty golf ain't shit w/o Tiger. The PGA knows it, sponsors know it & the hatin washed up players know it.
They aren't admitting they aren't real journalists…they are finally being ACTUAL journalists. A REAL Journalists doesn't just accept a press release and print it, they ask questions. If Tiger isn't allowing them to do that then for them to show up would make them no different than P.R. flaks willing to print anything he wants thm to. Good for them!
The most interesting story in golf history and they're not covering it.
Smart move. lol
This crap is so stupid. He was a lying serial cheater and got caught and the only people he really owes any apologies to are his wife and family. Tiger should completely blow everyone minds and stand up there and tell them all to f*ck off and mind their own business and get a life. That would be awesome.
Hurry the hell up Tiger and get back to playing. Most people who are upset (and I don't know why cause u didn't do anything to them) know nothing about golf, Stupid people like Perez saying you should go away don't know what their talking about. GOLF DOES NOT EXIST WITHOUT TIGER! Tiger is Golf and everyone knows this…
Journalistic integrity is not measured in catchy headlines, you prick.
Really? You are going to decide who a "real" journalist is? You??
their losss. pfftt who are those people anyway?
Agree with SPINDOC. Was just thinking…"actually, that makes them real journalists". I'm a PR person and it's really bad form to hold a 'press conference' that doesn't allow questions unless there is some kind of proprietary or safety issue. Sorry Tiger, you're not that important. Truth told, if his damn PR firm was earning its money they would've been far out in front of this and a stupid stunt like this wouldn't be necessary. I'm in business, not celebrity, publicity but it doesn't take an expert to figure that out.
It matters not what this piece of gargage reads we all know what he and his money hungry wife are all abought. The gig is up
"Real" journalists don't allow sources to set the terms and conditions of access to information like this. One reason celebrity "journalism" has become so laughable is because the requirements of publicists have assured that virtually any story about a major star with be fawning — and fictitious.
Seriously.. these women must really want him for his money
cuz he's UGLY!! And plz stop writing about Tiger..It's getting oooold!
Who cares? He doesn't owe us an apology and he doesn't have to answer questions about his personal business. He is under no obligation to do so.
He owes his family an apology (and maybe some of the gals he fooled with, although I have no sympathy for the hobags who hooked up with a married man). So even the hobags don't have any right to expect an apology from him. They made their bed, they can lie in them.
I'm so sick of the media/press asking (or trying to force someone to answer) questions about their personal life.
Of course Tiger has to handle it the way he's handling it. NO QUESTIONS. If he allowed questions it would just be a circus. Let's talk about golf and get back to business.
His personal life is none of my concern.
Agre with Chris18 and Spindoc on this, it's poor taste to hold a press release on friday and its even poorer taste to not allow questions or anything. The sooner the journalists stand up to this douche the sooner he'll realize he isn't anything special just another pro athlete..
You have it wrong, Perez. The fact that they are not attending means that they ARE real journalists. Why would a journalist show up for a press conference where the subject won't answer any questions? That's the entire point of journalism! Otherwise, just wait to watch it on TV or get the transcript. Boy, for a famous and successful blogger, I would think you'd understand more about journalism.
It was NOT a press conference. A press conference allows questions from the press. This was a press STATEMENT. He was releasing a statement, not open for discussion. I wish "journalist" and everyone else could understand the difference!
Oh, and I suppose YOU are a "REAL" journalist, huh? Fuck you, Perez. They're actually keeping their integrity by NOT reporting on something that's spoonfed to them.
C'mon now it's a private family matter btw Tiger, his wife.. and Nike!
No, Golf Writers Association knows it nothing but a "Tiger-and-Pony" show, with Tiger Woods spewing out a bunch of insincere bullshit. Why bother covering something so BOGUS? All the press is doing is acting like a backdrop for this creep and catering to his demands. Woods has a Messiah complex–he thinks he's above the moral code, he's special, he doesn't need to be accountable for his actions because he's "Tiger Woods", a persona as fake and bogus as his speech was.
Golf Writers knew this "press conference" was a total JOKE and BOGUS.
He does't need them THEY NEED HIM. They are basically FUCKED until he starts playing again because without him nobody gives a rats ass about golf.
Tiger can learn the catch phrase 'no comment.' They'll get it eventually. Journalistic integrity is a laughable concept when they also think it earns them the right to air all of HIS dirty laundry. That stuff isn't really even journalism. People forget that. It's titillation fluff and filler distraction.
It's gossip. That's why they're called gossip columns. They are what they are, but don't confuse the two. Both have etched their place.
