Vampire Weekends Are Stoopid!
It may have been self-proclaimed "luck" that led Vampire Weekend's LP Contra to dominate the US album charts, but don't expect the band to get excited about it!
They feel that it would be ”shallow” to be proud of their success!
Considering that when frontman Ezra Koenig heard they topped the charts in an email, he went right back to taking his nap, we don't expect too much from them.
Koenig said:
"It's exciting, but you're number one for a week and then you're not. Even with a number one there's still plenty of people who've never heard of you. There's so much to do. To be number one versus number three or number five, that's the luck of the draw. Our day-to-day has changed so little. It's not like now the glitz and glamour surrounds us."
Ugh, rolling our eyes!
Then, bandmate Rostam Batmanglij added, "The meaningful accomplishments are internal. It's shallow to be proud of how many records you've sold."

Yesterday you were jerkin your nub because zomg they used a Gaga set for their video, but today, because you found out that they're not as hungry for glamour and money and fame as the people you obsess about, suddenly they're "stoopid". But when they're pretentious and humble, you get pissed. Sorry, Perez. These guys aren't lighting their tits on fire or parading around in couture gear like your "friends." They live in their old apartments, they have their old friends, they are unchanged by fame. They treat their fans incredibly well and talk to them after shows. They play tons of free shows for their fans. They are incredibly gracious and thankful. But they're also musicians who put the pressure on themselves - they are more proud of the work they do than the accolades they get, and I think that's level headed. That shows a commitment to being a serious musician, not a fleeting flash in the pan entertainer.
