"Even if I could come, I wouldn't," said Polanski. "Because the last time I went to a festival to accept an award, I ended up in jail."

He did jail time in the 70s. One judge accepted a plea bargain (as it is permitted in the judiciary system), but another one, keen on making a name for himself, overturned it. Polanski ran away as he knew he was being had by a crooked judge.

I do not in any condone what he did, but, he did do the time agreed upon, and the judge, for publicity reasons, decided to change the deal at the last minute. And I have to say, calling him a pedophile is incorrect. A pedophile has a fixation on children. Pedophiles have a long list of abused victims. he messed around with one girl one time. Now, what if you pay a fine, do a few days in jail as agreed upon, and later the judge came back and decided for publicity sake, he wanted to add some more money to your fine and additional time? This is called double jeopardy. You do not want to get punished twice for the same crime.. This is what this whole thing is about. Yes, crime bad, but we have rights when it comes to justice that cannot be abused no matter what.

Re: Rican31 – FIRST he did not do the time agreed upon he ran PRIOR to sentencing when the judge told him he did not agree to the terms of the plea agreement he made with the prosecution because his crime did not warrent such leniency SECOND we can label him a pedophile as he does have a history of inappropriate affection for little girls ex: Nastasia Kinsky she was 15 when he dated her publicly but because her parents didnt mind no one ever took issue with it THIRD and most important a bird in the had is worth 2 in the bush! after his primary victim came forward and reported it she was crucified in the media, so his countless other victims probably were afraid to come forward for fear of the same treatment. this sicko needs to be brought to justice!

I do think that the judge had an unusually large boner for Polanski (to put him away) and wanted to make a huge example out of a high profile criminal. Usually I get really pissed off when shit like this happens (e.g. Tommy Chong). But this involves pedophilia! A 13 year old girl! Come on now, he deserves the rest of what is dished out to him. Where were the parents of that 13 year-old girl and why did they leave her alone with an older man that was not to be trusted, he was in the movies (the casting couch). The parents are responsible as well, Mr. Polanski thought probably he was being handed a gift. After all those years it is time to leave him to his family, he lost his parents during WWII, that left him an orphan and unable to become an adult for a long time.

I really think you need to take a law class before you attempt the big words in the court docs because you clearly could not understand what you read……….
