It's a girl!

Padma Lakshmi of Top Chef fame has welcomed a beautiful baby girl into her life. Padma gave birth on Saturday in New York City and has already chosen a name for the tyke: Krishna.

I just adore her — been a top chef fan for years. I'm so glad she's been blessed with a child after many years of fertility problems. I don't particularly care for the name, but believe this is part of her background. Best of luck to both of them!

Krishna? Krishna is male. He is the incarnation of Vishnu who is also male. It seems kind of bizarre that a woman of Indian heritage is not familiar with hinduism. She may not be hindu, but I hope she studied the origins of the name.

krishna can also be a female name. draupaudi, a character from the epic hindu poem mahabharata, was often referred to as krishnaa. the female equivalent of krishna.
