Will AMC Boycott Alice Too?

| Filed under: Film FlickersDisneyBusiness Blitz

First the Brits, now the US???

AMC Entertainment may possibly join Vue Entertainment and Odeon Cinemas in the boycott against the shortened theatrical release of Disney's Alice In Wonderland!!

The big eared execs at Disney want to shrink down the theatrical release from 17 weeks to 12 weeks in order to get the Alice DVD out ASAP, but the decision may do them more harm than good!

AMC has yet to announce whether or not they will be screening the Tim Burton 3-D flick in their theaters, but if they decline, that could be some major $$$$$$$ lost.

    This movie looks amazing!

Disney is gonna get a shiz load of $$$ anyways, so does it really matter? They need to go with what those companies want to do, b/c after that BOMB Tooth Fairy movie, they need to make up a lot of money. Lol!

In Chicago, AMC almost owns the whole market now. The non-AMC screens could make a killing or "Alice" might just cut its own throat.

  4. 4

I think its gonna be great! Especially in 3D

  5. 5

well AMC will regret it…it wont hurt disney. any other theaters - like the small ones - will grab at ANY chance to play this movie.

Who cares, it will be on the internet for free 3 days after it`s released. Does anyone even buy or rent DVDs anymore?

Disney is cutting into their profits if they don't milk it for every million it's worth. People who see this movie at the theater will likely buy the DVD too.
It's going to be THAT big.

These theaters are being stupid!!Make your money of the Big Movies and move the hell on!!!Don't screw with Disney or you screw yourselves. It will be a very cool flick!!You will sell your crummy overpriced concessions and make your overinflated ticket prices just the same only a shorter amount of time. All movies go to dvd this one is just going sooner. Get over it. It will probably cost less to buy it on Dvd and buy snacks to watch it with at home then it will at the movies which is the only reason they are pissed!! WAAAA!!!Get over yourselves!!!

AMC feels screwed so how do they get back at Disney … by screwing the public. It's never about the customer, just about their pockets. Screw AMC.

  17. 17

    who cares

Who seriously still sees a movie after 12 weeks anyway? That is three whole months and pretty sure by that stage another tonne of movies have come out that you would rather see than one that came out 12 weeks before.

    Go Disney.

I think it's about time someone stood up to Disney. I love the parks, but their holier than thou attitude needs to be taken down a notch or 10.

As long as they don't keep the DVD release date a big secret and the consumer knows going in that it has a short release I really don't understand what the big deal is. I think we can make the decision ourselves. Some people may want to see it in the theaters. I'll personally wait it out.

we have 3 different cinema chains in my area — all with 3D projectors — the movie will do fine!

  22. 22

Like I care. The only good thing AMC has to offer is nachos and icees. I can easily go to Regal or any other independent movie theater within a 10 mile radius.

I saw the adverts for this movie at about November time, and I was really looking forward to go see it, especially since my local cinema had just been redone and was now a good quality 3d cinema. The only cinemas near me are odeon and now they won't be showing it, I won't be able to see it until it comes out on DVD and 3d films are way better in the cinema than at home. Why do they have to cancel it anyway, eitherway they will make shit loads of money, theres not much point in showing a film even 12 weeks because by the end no-one goes to see it :/

This is invading the theater business. People dont go see movies after 12weeks…Hello, AVATAR! Also, how long has Sherlock Holmes played?? Since the general public doesnt pay attention to the the grosses of films after they open doesnt mean that they dont make money. AMC is not about the money it is about not wanting to give business away in order for Disney to create more revenue for their DVDs which are easily replaced by netflix and other computer downloads. All studios are trying to create more dollars in the Home entertainment market and Disney is the first to try and cut into a films theatrical run in turn cutting into the theatres overall business.
