well, unemployment is not getting better-don't quote the numbers. there are now people off unemployment that have just given up. people are losing their houses, apartments, moving back with mom and dad, moving in with siblings. Banks are no longer just giving out mortgages as under the clinton laws. It is a number of things and it is not getting better no matter how the white house lies about the #s

also, I live in the northeast. I see a few new houses where they are just abandoned. stopped building them last year. don't know if the bank pulled financing or what. 3 groups in my town. all the houses were to go over $850k.

The key here is that "NEW" home sales has reached a low. Regular home sales are doing just fine. Housing inventory is so low right now that the numbers are skewed. Anything that does come on the market is getting multiple offers, and only stays on for a short period of time. It's headlines like these that drive me nuts…all is does is make the general public less informed.

I don't know but I would imagine new home construction is seeing the same slump. Could it be the nasty winter contributing to this low number?? You can't build houses if the land is under 2 feet of snow. I won't be surprised if this month produces the same tepid numbers.
